TEST DRIVE # 15

Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:

1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

To get you started, here are some ideas for thread-starters! Feel free to come up with your own ideas if these don't strike your fancy, though.

Sneaky Snakes

There are a number of snakes that have become possessed by a bunch of very sneaky ayakashi. They are slithering around, silently, snaring unsuspecting passersby into their trap - their trap to steal money. That's right, these snakes are busy snatching bills and coins from whoever they can. Try to put a stop to their thieving ways, or perhaps get thieved by them yourself.

Tummy Troubles

Many of the customers of a certain restaurant are complaining of the fact that their stomachs hurt after eating there. It could just be food poisoning, but many of these people are winding up in critical condition after a couple of days. It's time to figure out what the heck this cook is actually putting in the food.

Underwhelming Underwear

A family run business has been selling underwear for generations, but the underwear they sell is super boring and bland. Nobody wants to buy from them when cooler underwear is just around the corner. They've asked you to help them bring customers back in - by making their boring underwear seem as cool and hip as possible! How you do that is up to you.

Vividly Violet

There are so many ayakashi making their way through the air that at sunset the sky is turning an absolutely gorgeous shade of purple. Near Shore residents are reacting to this in varying ways. Many are delighted by the beautiful sky, but just as many are terrified that it's a sign of the end of times. Try to take down some ayakashi to make the sky less purple. Or just sit back and watch the beauty.

Wonder Wall

Anyways, there's this college boy who won't stop playing his acoustic guitar. He's from the US and is trying to pick up Japanese chicks. By now he should've somehow realized that they're totally not interested in him. But the song just keeps getting louder and louder and all that the people near the campus can hope is that today is gonna be the day that he stops playing. Maybe you're gonna be the one that saves them.

Hibari really didn't like the idea of killing the snakes either, but they had been taken over by ayakashi and were endangering him. The poor creatures at least wouldn't suffer by his hands, though now he was pretty angry at Tsuna for making him kill them in the first place.

Stupid mewling animal. He was, however, taken by surprise by the giant snake that raised itself above him, ready to strike. Hibari promptly dumped Tsuna on the ground and swung out his tonfa, wedging it in its teeth before it struck down. The ayakashi made a pained noise, swinging its head back and forth and dripping some venom on Hibari's arm.

Thankfully, he ripped out his tonfa before it was stolen from his hands and drew another, more powerful borderline between him and the snake. It pained him to have to walk away from this fight, but there was no way Hibari could win. He'd had too many personal, painful experiences, and he was tired of fighting and losing. So he just turned heel and started walking away quickly, leaving Tsuna where he lay.

"If you have any self preservation, I suggest you leave. I don't care about your life."

Tsuna let out a gasp as he was tossed on to the floor, as Hibari took on the large ayakashi. Today was definitely not Tsuna's day. He'd been thrown around, almost bitten to death and nearly suffocated by those snakes. He couldn't really do anything about the snake...well he could have, but without his shinki around he wouldn't be able to rend it.

Still Hibari did more than he, putting his life on the line as he took on the phantom. Tsuna cringed as Hibari hit the beast in the mouth, and the venom dripping onto the shinki's arm. Hibari must have felt like he couldn't win, because he drew a borderline and started to retreat.

Tsuna hurried stood up and followed after the disciplinarian. He didn't know where the other was going, but he didn't want to stick around to where the snake was. "W-wait!W-what about your arm? Shouldn't you look into it?"

Hibari didn't really know quite where he was going either, just that he had to find the nearest shrine and dump some holy water on himself, or at least find a way back to the Far Shore. If this was how it was going to be, he was getting out of here and going to nap with his cat.

Except the annoying bug was still following him. Why wasn't he leaving Hibari alone? "Didn't I tell you to stop crowding me? Leave before I bite you to death!"

"HIII!" Tsuna screeched, hopping back a few steps from the cloud guardian.

When Hibari mentioned, he was crowding him and that he'll definitely bite him to death, Tsuna knew it wasn't an idle threat. Still he still felt bad for being the main reason for the shinki's injury. He hoped he didn't get some kind of blight because of him.

"T-the nearest shrine isn't that way...!" Even he was bound to be a victim of those tonfas, he didn't want the shinki to be wandering aimlessly to find one. Especially if he did know one that was closer.

Hibari just glanced back at him, giving the annoying boy a very unamused look. "Why do you care? You're a god, aren't you? I don't need the pity of any of you who would step on my pride and life just to pretend you're stronger."

He spit that answer out, with an anger and viciousness Tsuna probably hadn't heard from him directly. Hibari was done with dealing with them and their toying.

When Hibari glanced back, Tsuna jumped, almost ready to bolt out of there. However, even if Hibari's face seemed less than pleased, he at least humored Tsuna. He listened to Hibari's words, and the brunette's face seemed a bit confused. What did he mean? Has Hibari been bullied by some gods?

"I...." Tsuna then slowly shook his head. Hibari did scare him, but he was trying to make peace with the other. Especially since there was a misunderstanding between them. "I don't pity you at all! I know that Hiba---I mean---there's someone I know who is very similar to you. He's very much about maintaining his pride, and beating up anyone who threatens to take it away. In fact, I don't think there's many people who could do that to him, and still live to tell about it..."

Tsuna realized he was going off on a tangent. It was hard not to ramble, when he could feel Hibari's intense stare, even at this distance."B-but what I'm trying to say is...I don't pity you. It doesn't matter if I'm a god, or if you're a shinki. I want to help you as an equal, not because I feel superior. Since I'm definitely not! But because you helped me! It's as simple as that."

Bullied was never the right word, but....taken advantage was definitely up in there. He'd met too many with attitudes that matched their new rise in status, with powers that could render him unable to fight back. Just the thought of the name on the palm of his hand made his skin crawl, knowing that Youji could call his name and just...turn him into something.

But that stopped when Hibari latched onto a familiar sound in Tsuna's voice; and this...person he was talking about. He'd seen how Gojyo and Hakkai had acted around each other-somehow, the god had known the other but was unable to speak about it. He could tell it in the almost awkward interactions, though he wasn't privy to the subtlties of their relationship, and he was seeing the exact same signs here.

Hibari's face grew confused, then angry again as he felt a sting to the back of his neck. "You know me from before I died."

It wasn't a question, but a statement, in accordance with the sudden nervousness he felt. "You know who I am."

There seemed to be a shift in the atmosphere. Hibari was no longer glaring at him, instead he looked more confused. Had he been rambling too much that his words were so unclear to understand? That had to be it!

Though the shinki's face transitioned into anger again, and Tsuna figured, he must've said something to piss the other off. Though of all things he expected Hibari to say (He only anticipated the infamous 'bite you to death', to be honest), the dark haired shinki said something to put Tsuna in even more of a panic!

"W-what?" Tsuna began to stammer.

Tsuna wasn't quite sure what to say to such a direct and truthful statement as that. He was a bad liar. His face probably gave away that he's trying to cover up his own tracks. Ever since he became a god, Tsuna understood that he couldn't reveal a shinki's past, because it would cause them despair. But it already seemed that Hibari was aware of his own death, just not the life he lead before then. "I...I wasn't talking about you. Just someone I know! I'm sorry if I confused you. J-just forget what I said!"

He decided to see if they could change the subject, and suddenly their previous conversation popped into his head. The shrine and Hibari's arm. They needed to take care of it before. Tsuna started to walk in that direction, hoping that Hibari will follow him. "Um...anyway the shrine is this way. We should probably hurry."

He wasn't believing this kid for an instant because Tsuna was right, he was a bad liar. Hibari could see it in the way he moved and his furious denial of what was said, which confirmed it more than any sort of acknowledgement would.

Coward.

The blight was still stinging his hand rather painfully, but Hibari, surprisingly just started following Tsuna anyway. This god was an enigma, and he didn't want to let Tsuna out of his sight while he knew the kid could possibly be a threat.

He was a coward. It was one of his bad traits. Even if Hibari confronted him with the truth, Tsuna didn't have the courage to acknowledge it. He wondered if it was simply because it was taboo, or avoidance of the guilt he might have, if he caused one of his guardians to suffer? Tsuna didn't know.

However, he focused on the fact that Hibari was following him. Maybe he was in that much pain from the blight slowly taking effect. Tsuna hurried along, walking on to a familiar road that lead them up to a long pair of stairs against a hill. Once they reached the top, the large red torii signaling the gateway to the shrine.

Tsuna was totally out of breath from all those steps, but he made sure to get out of the way, so Hibari could get to the purification well.
