TEST DRIVE # 15



Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:

1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

To get you started, here are some ideas for thread-starters! Feel free to come up with your own ideas if these don't strike your fancy, though.



Sneaky Snakes

There are a number of snakes that have become possessed by a bunch of very sneaky ayakashi. They are slithering around, silently, snaring unsuspecting passersby into their trap - their trap to steal money. That's right, these snakes are busy snatching bills and coins from whoever they can. Try to put a stop to their thieving ways, or perhaps get thieved by them yourself.

Tummy Troubles

Many of the customers of a certain restaurant are complaining of the fact that their stomachs hurt after eating there. It could just be food poisoning, but many of these people are winding up in critical condition after a couple of days. It's time to figure out what the heck this cook is actually putting in the food.

Underwhelming Underwear

A family run business has been selling underwear for generations, but the underwear they sell is super boring and bland. Nobody wants to buy from them when cooler underwear is just around the corner. They've asked you to help them bring customers back in - by making their boring underwear seem as cool and hip as possible! How you do that is up to you.

Vividly Violet

There are so many ayakashi making their way through the air that at sunset the sky is turning an absolutely gorgeous shade of purple. Near Shore residents are reacting to this in varying ways. Many are delighted by the beautiful sky, but just as many are terrified that it's a sign of the end of times. Try to take down some ayakashi to make the sky less purple. Or just sit back and watch the beauty.

Wonder Wall

Anyways, there's this college boy who won't stop playing his acoustic guitar. He's from the US and is trying to pick up Japanese chicks. By now he should've somehow realized that they're totally not interested in him. But the song just keeps getting louder and louder and all that the people near the campus can hope is that today is gonna be the day that he stops playing. Maybe you're gonna be the one that saves them.

Yeah, I wasn't expecting to see you either. [There's a pause, a thoughtful look masking his face.] This place seems to pull people here. I'm not sure if shinki qualifies in that same factor.

[If it was Trunks' time machine, some things might be simpler, but at the same time, it isn't.

And here Gohan was hoping for some peace right after the Majin Buu situation.]

Maybe. Who knows. We might find more people we know here.

A bar?

[Goten, why are you going to a bar?! Do you even know what a bar is!?

He blinks before he smiles.]

Sure. It'll be fun, but I don't know what Aymeric'w temple looks like.

[sonofson]

Ahuh! I go there all the time! I think he makes funny smelling drinks and stuff too but the food is the best!

[Even if he's repeating himself, he's going to keep calling Izumo's food the best because it is. This bar is his second home Gohan. There's nothing wrong with a child going to a bar!]

OH right. I guess you wouldn't huh?

[Goten pushes his thumb to his mouth thoughtfully as he hums.]

What do you know?

[lovemguns]

[ For someone who comes from a place where the most similar technology is typewriters, even normal pace is pretty cool, so her speed is even cooler. ]

I ain't ever seen none back afore 1908, so it's either from the future or a far-off country there ain't pictures from around where I've been. It is a amazin' looking thing.

[ But never mind that, she said something much more important. ]

Horse? You've a horse?

[ That's very interesting to him, because he's worked with or around horses for all his life and he loves them. ]

You don't go there at night, do you?

[He needs to talk to this Izumo. WHO LETS A CHILD INTO A BAR? But Gohan doesn't want to do anything to upset Goten either, especially since this Izumo sounds like a good person overall.

A blink before he rubs the back of his head.]

Just where my temple is. How about this? Nimbus knows the direction of the temple, right? We can let Nimbus fly ahead of us and whoever catches up to it at Aymeric's temple wins.

[lovemguns]

If ya talk of the Far Shore then we all who ain't originally from there are foreigners, ain't we? But I ain't lookin' for praise, I'm too old t' be a'lookin' for that anywhere I go.

[ Or at all. Looking for praise is for people who have high life-expectancy, not for supposedly-dead cowboys. ]

I figure you seem foreign considerin' where I'm from an' where I been after.

[ Not even the people in the other world had pink hair, though he supposes it's not the weirdest thing he's seen, what with the dog and cat people he met around the Japanese man in the flying metal tube. But since it appears she's a shinki, he won't try to figure out her origins. ]

Cassidy. The surname's Cassidy. You can jus' call me Butch.

[ But it's not like he doesn't get that she's not trying to incriminate him. It's nothing he's not used to, and it's true that he was a thief before. Going down the straight and narrow in some place called Heaven will be interesting. ]

[sonofson]

Izumo doesn't let me. Maybe one day...

[Sadly, he doesn't get too. Just before night, Goten is usually sent home much to his disappointment. It does make him curious about it though.


OHH but the race!]

Should I give you a headstart then, Gohan? [grin~!]

[nohorn]

This Shore or the other.

[ As in... nothing here is familiar to her. Even without her memory she doesn't know what a Japan is, what a car is, what Shinto is, or anything like that. After all, that's what you get for being from another world entirely. ]

Then I guess I am foreign. Or maybe everyone else is foreign to me.

[ She's going to go that route apparently. ]

Master Thief Butch Cassidy-san.

[ And NEVER giving that up. After all, those snakes have now dispersed and she's completely alone now with him. ]

Maybe there's a reason.

[He's grown up with Master Roshi, Bulma, and a lot of bad influences, after all. Though, it's only always Master Roshi who gets drunk the most.

He looks amused.]

How about you go first, Goten? [Smiles.] If you're really as fast as you say you are, then you don't need to worry about me catching up to you.

I hope not....

[It sounds a bit heartless to say but running into more familiar faces would further complicate things. Especially considering timelines into the mix. Even now it's hard for him to pin point where when Gohan is from.

Trunks absently looks over Gohan again, frowning. He looks a little younger then his last visit to the past. Or maybe that's the lack of glasses? But surely a few years after the cell games. That much he's certain of.]

From what I understand about shinki, it's people that have died right? That can be just about anyone...

[Friends and foes, but if they lack memories...well that's going to be a whole other issue.]

[Gohan blinks a bit when Trunks looks at him, curious.]

Something the matter?

[How long has he really seen Trunks, anyway? Though, now that he's gotten a better look at him, something is different about him, too. It's nearly enough to get him to frown, trying to place what it is that makes Trunks feel different from the last time he's seen him.

A blink, though, before he just barely manages to hold back a grimace upon remembering Goten,]

Yeah, that's true.

[He cups his chin in thought.]

I see, then there's always the possibility you ain't native to the world at all. But you don't need to worry about that, you'll eventually learn your ways round the place and that matters more. You're just some more foreign than I am.

[ He's from America after all, not Japan.

HE shakes his head out of amusement. Cheeky girl, ain't she? Deadpan but cheeky. ]

You ain't a master thief if you ever been to the pokey, miss.

[lookingforhead]

[The year he mentioned is an interesting point, but before she can remark on it she sulks at his question.]

I think so. I know I should have one. I'm just

where he is
or how to find him

[Her other powers are working but this is perhaps something too complex for her at the moment? Maybe because it's another creature even if he came from her?
Of course, even when she was alive and had most of her memories she was never sure what would happen if she dismissed her horse or even if she could get him back again, so she opted to keep him around.]

I think that much is clear. I may not have memories of my own life, but what I know does not match up to anything here.

[ Basically she's from a fantasy world, and stuff like electricity is 100% a foreign concept. However, petty theft is not. ]

"Pokey"? [ She tilts her head, her eyes squinting slightly. It takes her a moment before she realizes what he means and apologetically bows to him. ]

I apologize but you are too old for me to consider in that way. I am sorry I cannot accept your confession.

[sonofson]

If you say so.

[He's not use to this. No way Gohan can beat him at flying though. He pats Nimbus, giving the cloud the signal to take off. It blasts off ahead, making a course right for Aymeric's temple.]

Just don't get lost, okay?

[And that should give Nimbus just enough of a head start to beat them to Aymeric's. Or at least he thinks so. Giving a wave, Goten blasts off after the yellow cloud. Bye Gohan!]

[Lips quirk up into an amused smile.

He waits a minute, watching Nimbus and Goten blast off, and immediately locks onto his brother's ki. He's not sure if Goten is able to properly sense ki yet or even remembered how to, but at least this way, Gohan wouldn't get lost too much.

It doesn't hurt to cheat a bit.

But once that minute passes, Gohan is quick to fly in the direction of Goten and Nimbus. He's a more experienced flier than Goten, so it wouldn't really take long for him to catch up to the younger demi saiyan.]

[sonofson]

[ Goten isn't exactly going full speed either. He's got some speed but he's also worried of leaving Gohan too far behind. He casually glances over his shoulder.

One second there's no sign of the teenager.

The next; he's there and gaining on him!

Goten blinks, tensing up. Oh wow! Time to book it! Gohan is fast after all!

Looking forward again, Goten picks up even more speed, trying to keep ahead.]

[Upon seeing Goten speed up, Gohan holds back a laugh and just keeps on gaining speed.

As soon as he's a bit ahead of Goten, he turns around and begins to fly backwards.]

Come on, Goten!

Munakata Reisi | K | Shinki

[The unusual number of snakes stealthily slinking about in this area doesn’t escape Munakata’s notice, though initially he does nothing more than take mental notes. After all, there normally isn’t any reason for this many snakes to be lurking about. Not to mention that ordinarily there’s no reason for them to leave the comfort and safety of their hiding places. Yet now, they brazenly approach people with a purposeful movement, driven by something unnatural.

It’s after one of them tries—and fails—to pickpocket Munakata himself that his smile broadens to one of amusement before he closes his eyes and pushes up his glasses.]

I have a grasp of the situation. [When he opens his eyes, they are lit up with a playful determination as he draws his sword.] Munakata, ready for battle.

[Just outside that corner mom and pop underwear shop is none other than Munakata Reisi… wearing a calm and pleasant expression as he approaches a potential customer.]

Good afternoon. Might I interest you in a one-day special sale? Should you purchase two pairs from these collections— [He sweeps his hands in a smooth gesture toward the specific selections.] —you may customize one limited edition special pair free of charge. Ah, what’s so appealing about the special pair?

[A cartoonishly reflective gleam of light passes over his glasses before he continues.]

I personally will lovingly hand-draw a pair of boss megane on whichever side you desire. It’s truly an exclusive offer that only this amazing shop will offer. Irresistible, is it not?

[Earlier on, it was still too early for Munakata to determine an appropriate course of action for dealing with the guitarist accosting every young, Japanese woman he sees on the campus green. After making a mental note of it, he instead headed to the university library to do a bit of research, specifically on city as well as university noise control regulations.

By the time Munakata had fully equipped himself to handle the string-strumming menace, he returns to find most passerby putting a wide berth between themselves and the guitarist. Unfortunately for them, the boy has become more aggressive in his approach, now actively seeking out an audience with just about anyone.

Munakata begins making his way toward the unruly individual.]

Excessive noise is any noise that is under human control and unreasonably interferes with the peace, comfort, and convenience of any person… as defined in Chapter 10.01 SCC, with which you are in direct violation. As it is unlikely that this is your first warning, I advise that you cease this manner of conduct or otherwise remove yourself from the premises before the authorities step in to remove you by force…

[ The look on his face.

Just.

The look. On his face.

It is one of utter confusion, caught between "why" and "how". His eyes are flicking between the underwear and Reisi, trying to make sense of this all. Why is this guy selling underwear? More importantly, why's he offering to draw on it? Is this some new fandom he isn't aware of? Or maybe some sort of ad campaign... ]

Is... that really the best way to get business rolling here?

Oya. [There's something strangely pure and genuine about his expression when he turns to address the question, still smiling.]

I thought things like having a personal touch is something that people would like. It makes things cooler and more interesting, does it not?

[lovemguns]

That sounds rough on you. I've been in another world 'fore this but least I'm rememberin' it.

[ That was also a fantasy world, but pretty different from her world. ]

What you on about? [ Being called old is not what makes him confused, it's about the confession. But he quickly catches on what went wrong. ] Ah. No, miss, ya misunderstand. The pokey's the jailhouse.

[sonofson]

[Wha....what? How did he...]

....

[Goten stares at him before his eyes narrow and he tries to pick up more speed, putting more power into his flight. He's never had to push to go faster because he already could fly fast but Gohan has proved that he's slow.

His ki flares up around him as he kicks into high gear, pushing past Gohan again--slowly.]

[saiyanhybrid]

[Gohan hums, grinning widely once he sees Goten's ki flare.

He allows his younger brother to slowly fly past him, seeing just how much energy he's putting into it just in order to remain ahead of Gohan. It really reminds him of Goten and his need to get better, stronger, but this isn't the place for that.

Once Goten is able to get past him, Gohan won't make it easy for him as he speeds past him again.]

[sonofson]

[Just when he thinks he's got the lead, Gohan snatches it again. Goten lips tighten into a thin line, he's not sure if he can go any faster. He's already expending a good amount of ki with just this. There's something else deep down he can feel, more power that's inside himself but he can't figure out how to bring that out.

So instead, when Gohan does speed past him, Goten flips around and cups his hands together and shoots a blast that helps propel him forward ahead of Gohan--but he can't do ki blasts the whole way to Aymeric's so when Gohan catches up and starts to pass him yet again, Goten shoots above him just high enough to drop down on the older demi-saiyan's back, hitching a ride.]

Heeheee!

[Goten pants lightly between his giggling as he sits cross legged on Gohan's back. This is even better then Nimbus!]
