TEST DRIVE # 03

Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:

1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

To get you started, here are some ideas for thread-starters! Feel free to come up with your own ideas if these don't strike your fancy, though.

Keening Karaoke
For some reason, karaoke clubs have suddenly popped up all over the Heavens. Not only that, but they are the big new hotspot for residents of the Far Shore to hang out at and everyone around you has been pressuring you to join them. Do you continue to fight back or give in to the peer pressure weighing you down?

Little Lies
Everyone believes that white lies do no harm, so the people of the Near Shore are happy to use small lies whenever they need to. Tiny ayakashi have been springing from these little lies and are now teaming up to form into a huge ayakashi, and it keeps getting bigger with every passing moment!

Marriage Madness
With spring in the air, the season of weddings is upon the Near Shore, and boy do the people of Japan seem eager to get married this year. In fact, it's so crazy trying to book anything that there are literally hundreds of prayers being sent up asking for monetary deals as well as luck with finding the right place to marry. Help some poor people out.

Necklace Nuisance
A cursed necklace has sprung up in the city and there are a lot of people dying because of it. The weird thing is that no one who has actually worn the necklace has died, just everyone around them. This cursed necklace has fallen into the hands of a depraved young man who is more than happy to use its bad luck in order to start 'taking out the trash' of the world...

Overt Ogling
As the temperature rises, so do the skirts of teenage girls. Unfortunately, there are a lot of pubescent boys who are more than happy to take a gander whenever they can. Catching some peeping toms, how is a resident of the Far Shore supposed to react? Or even warn the poor girl who's being spied on?

I don't know exactly. But if I had to guess it would seem so.

[There are a few that stand out from the rest and they weren't prayers for the wedding to take place in some fancy high rise building complete with a swan ice sculpture. Some were just simple, non-material related with general request of "Please let my wedding be a happy one."]

Who are you?

[It's a relief to see some more simple requests in there too. He hopes they have happy weddings. Maybe he and Yato can target popular wedding spots on ayakashi extermination duty for a while.

A-anyway--

Turning from reading the prayers he looks at Flynn with a straight face.]

I'm a shinki, Yukine. [He points out the red 'yuki' mark on his left collarbone.] One of my jobs right now is to help look after you new shinki. [New shinki who seem to pop up like mushrooms after the rain...]
So, my first piece of advice is 'get along with your god'. ... As best you can. How are things with you?

[Yukine. So he was a shinki just like him. He looks at where Yukine's mark when he points it out but doesn't linger on it. His own mark was on his left hand but it was covered by the gauntlet he always wore.]

I see. I am doing fine with my god. There have been no arguments between us.

[Yukine relaxes a little.]

That's good to hear. It's really important, you know.

[He casts a quick glance at the sky. It's getting darker. He wants to get home.]

There's a lot of stuff to know, but you'll figure it out as you go for the most part. And your god should be helping you out too.

[Flynn listens quietly as Yukine says his piece. When asked if he had any questions he stays silent. What questions did he have? He thinks for a bit on it before he finally speaks again.]

Is there anything important that I have to be aware of?

[An exasperated look flashes across Yukine's face for a moment. Everything is important...]

Okay... choosing one thing that came up recently- ayakashi can only be killed by a god wielding a shinki. So don't even think about trying to beat them up on your own. This is why it's good that you're getting along well with your god.

Has your god called your vessel name yet?

[If Flynn notices the exasperated look he doesn't comment on it. Or even show any indication that he notices. He is more focused on the answer his fellow shinki had given him. His head bobs a little in comprehension as he commits it all to memory.

However he shakes his head at Yukine's inquiry.]

No. My god has yet to do so.

[He's glad that this guy at least seems to care and be taking it all in, unlike some other new shinki he's met.

Yukine nods slightly.]

You two should do that then. It's important that you understand your abilities as a shinki, and that your god understands how to best use you.
There are a few things that shinki can do without their god, but a god is practically useless without his shinki. So help your god out as best you can, okay?

I understand.

[It sounded enough and it gave him something to work towards. He would definitely share this knowledge with his god.]

What is it that shinki can do on their own?

All shinki can make a borderline.

[Yukine raises one hand, the thumb and first two fingers pressed together into a halberd shape.]

It's our best defense and offense- but mostly you'll use it as a wall. It works a lot better when there is something you regard with fear and disgust you want to keep out but... [he glances around and shrugs.] It being a shrine and all, there's no ayakashi around here.

Anyway, it goes like this.
[Turning to the side and holding out his hand he quickly draws a line in the air. A light flashes and the line is transcribed on the ground, glowing faintly.]

This borderline will keep out whatever you will it to. You probably won't be able to do it on the first try, but practice it.

Like this?

[Flynn raises his hand to mimic what Yukine had done just moments ago. He presses his thumb and first two fingers together to make the halberd shape and draws a line in the air. There's a slight frown from him when nothing happens.]

Yep, like that. Like I said, it's easier to practice when you have a target, but keep it up!

[Yukine casts another glance at the sky.]

Listen, I need to be going soon. Any other questions you have now?
