TEST DRIVE # 07

Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:

1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

To get you started, here are some ideas for thread-starters! Feel free to come up with your own ideas if these don't strike your fancy, though.

Echoing Endlessly

Many people in the area are complaining about a strange echo following them around. It never seems to go away and, in fact, collects more and more echoes with each passing moment, creating a cacophony of sound. There have been reports of a few people slowly going crazy because of this echoing. It's your job to find what's causing it and put an end to the echoes!

French Frenzy

The new craze has swept over the city! Everything French is so in right now, and everyone wants something newer and Frenchier to make them stand out from the crowd. Just your luck, you happen to have something very French you can peddle - or maybe you can convince someone just how French your very Japanese things are!

Gateway Guardians

A very strange old shinki has left you with a very simple request: guard this door and don't let anyone through. It looks like a totally normal door on a totally normal house! You might be curious to peek through it, but it's locked and you were told not to go through yourself either...

Helping Hands

There's an ayakashi roaming around that is literally just hundreds of hands that randomly grab people and things and move them around before disappearing. The odd thing is that they are... actually doing good things? Maybe it's a scheme to suck people into a plagued afterlife without being caught, or maybe they just really want to help people out.

Irksome Illusions

There's a certain street in the downtown area that has some of the craziest rumors being spread about it. Apparently going down this street will just bring you back to the entrance, but when you turn around to head back you'll only find yourself at the entrance again. Moreover, there are a lot of creepy things that whisper and appear as you walk, more with each turn you make...

What are you doing? Kiryu! [Well, it's not like lurching after him will stop him. Nothing really will, honestly. It's not like he could wrestle Kuro out of his clothing. It'd be like going up against a brick.

Kuro's getting a lecture on this for sure.

Keito growls before darting over to the window. Thank god this one doesn't stick. It slams open and Keito moves to the side, jabbing a finger outside.]

Do it quick!

[He's not answering any of that right away, busy focusing on the task at hand here-- it's not necessarily difficult, but he's not going to hear the end of it if this thing manages to touch him in the process...

Kuro bundles the thing up and quickly hauls it right out the window, shoving it on through and making sure none of those hands manage to successfully cling onto the window frame (though that does require slamming the window shut on one hand's fingers); with that taken care of, he shrugs the jacket off and sets it aside. That's gonna need a washing.]

It's the quickest way to deal with it, is all. What were you gonna do with the thing, try picking it up with the--

[....a...h. Oops. He's noticed something. Rather, that something is not where it landed a minute ago.]

...shit, I think it was holdin' the tweezers.

[Keito kicks the jacket to the side.] Leave them. It's too small an item to go risking ourselves like that. [The jacket is stubborn and refuses to move very far. Keito keeps kicking it. Goddammit.] Besides, if it's so intent to do it's brand of helping maybe it can go rearrange a mouse's living space or something.

[Ah. There we go. Finally the jacket listens and squishes itself up against a bookshelf.] More importantly, just what were you thinking? Even if the method worked it takes a real fool to do something so reckless! You gave me no warning! What if your clothes counted as an extension of you? You at least should warn me so I can prepare for the worst outcome!

[He's probably going to go on for a bit if Kuro doesn't stop him.]

[Kuro doesn't stop him immediately, allowing Keito to get at least that much of his lecture out before finally cutting in.]

You can't always be prepared for the worst outcome, Hasumi. Besides- if you never take any risks, nothing gets accomplished, you know?

[He turns from Keito then, moving to gather up a few scattered papers that fell in the scuffle.]

You shouldn't worry about us so much. We're not gonna break that easy.

The tweezers were a risk. One that you stopped. If you're going to insist on being treated rougher then it's only fair you treat me the same.

[He is not helping with those papers. Picking them up is Kuro's punishment.]

You're sure I stopped that plan? 'Cause as I remember it, somebody threw the tweezers...

[With the papers retrieved, he straightens back up, tapping the small stack of them on the desk to make sure they're all aligned before finding a spot to set them down.

If it's the wrong spot, he's sure he'll find out.]

To the left. That's only where the finished ones go.

[Really, Kuro.]

And I said I was going to pick them up! Your imprudent solution forced me to stop!

Pretty sure that wasn't gonna work, Hasumi.

[They were tweezers...

The papers get moved to their proper spot on the left, at least. See, he listens.]

Refile the papers, Kiryu.

[Is this petty? No. This is clearly punishment. Very very not-petty punishment.]

[Oh, so this is how it's gonna go, huh.

Kuro raises a brow at him... then shakes his head with a sigh, rifling through the stack.]

You know I don't know how you've got all these filed. Sure you're not worried about getting them messed up?

[That sure is his cue to come on over and explain! Kuro brought on his own death. Keito starts ruffling through his own papers, pointing out different parts of each form and explaining their importance in the hierarchy of filing.]

It may seem complex but even someone like you should be able to handle it. In any case I'll be watching you work to ensure the mistakes made are minimal. Any that are will result in you starting over again. Is that clear?

[If he honestly worried Keito that much, then helping him out with this seemed only fair-- but really, isn't this a bit much? He stares down at the papers as Keito goes through his explanation, glancing between his stack of them and the ones already laid out, then back to Keito.]

You know, boss... I almost would've taken the lecture instead.

[...almost.

But fine, fine, he'll sort the damn papers.]

[Boss, huh? He covers a small smile with his fingers.]

What's to say you still won't? I may very well need something to occupy my time while you sort. Don't think you're in the clear.

[Even if he is. Keito's not that cruel.]

Now that's just overkill, don't you think? At least let me do something to deserve it before you start makin' those kinds of threats.

[He sees that smile, Keito, don't think that he doesn't-- Kuro answers it with a small one of his own, one brow quirked.]

Or you could just let me get away with the next one to make up for it. That'd be fair, right?

[What smile? It's gone now. How dare Kiryu think he can sneak by the rules.]

What an idiotic idea. Do I need to explain the concept of law and punishment to you, Kiryu? Your next misdeed could very well be twice as sever. There's no way it could be paid with the simple task you're undertaking now. Really, such underhanded thinking is only bringing my threat closer to reality.

[He holds both hands up in a gesture of surrender, one still clutching the papers he hasn't yet filed.]

It's a joke, Hasumi, no need to get started on that. But really... I feel like I should be offended you think I'd take advantage of a situation like that, you know.

That is essentially what you were suggesting.

[He frowns about that for a moment or two before giving in.] ... But you're right. You've got good morals. If you didn't, I would have thrown you away on the spot. It's one of your better features.
