Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:
1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

Echoing Endlessly
Many people in the area are complaining about a strange echo following them around. It never seems to go away and, in fact, collects more and more echoes with each passing moment, creating a cacophony of sound. There have been reports of a few people slowly going crazy because of this echoing. It's your job to find what's causing it and put an end to the echoes!
The new craze has swept over the city! Everything French is so in right now, and everyone wants something newer and Frenchier to make them stand out from the crowd. Just your luck, you happen to have something very French you can peddle - or maybe you can convince someone just how French your very Japanese things are!
A very strange old shinki has left you with a very simple request: guard this door and don't let anyone through. It looks like a totally normal door on a totally normal house! You might be curious to peek through it, but it's locked and you were told not to go through yourself either...
There's an ayakashi roaming around that is literally just hundreds of hands that randomly grab people and things and move them around before disappearing. The odd thing is that they are... actually doing good things? Maybe it's a scheme to suck people into a plagued afterlife without being caught, or maybe they just really want to help people out.
There's a certain street in the downtown area that has some of the craziest rumors being spread about it. Apparently going down this street will just bring you back to the entrance, but when you turn around to head back you'll only find yourself at the entrance again. Moreover, there are a lot of creepy things that whisper and appear as you walk, more with each turn you make...

If you're uncertain about anything, feel free to check out the Premise, Rules, and FAQ posts. And don't hesitate to ask any questions you might have on the FAQ!
When and if you're ready to join the game, check out the Taken Characters before throwing in a Reserve and starting on your Application
Have fun!

[ It might be good to start asking questions instead of charging head-on ] How many times did that happen to you? [ The teleportation, not suddenly-a-crashsite. ]
no subject
Just once... But I was stuck in there for probably 5 minutes!
[Maybe not that long, a couple minutes at least, but it sure felt like 5 minutes or maybe even longer, with all those whispers chasing him around in a street that seemed to never end until it suddenly did.]
You probably shouldn't try to do that thruster thing again, though.
no subject
It returned you here, right? [ he starts attempting to take it out, but the only thing he manages to do is to break it in half ] Will it returns us here if we try to leave in opposite direction?
no subject
Need...help with that?
You mean if we just turn and leave? I don't know, haven't tried.
[God, he hoped they can just leave, that would suck if they were stuck here.]
no subject
[ Probably with enough bending of arm, the splinter would just shatter inside the joint and fall out? But there's also probability it could do more damage, or just prevent full range of movement ]
no subject
[Despite his large hands his fingers aren't clumsy. The deftness of them are about the only thing he can say with confidence is physically apt about himself. So it wasn't difficult for him to get fingers between metal plates, pinch the broken piece of wood and yank it out.
He grimaced at the size of it.]
Inconvinient? Wish having something like this lodged in me was just inconvinient. Bet you're fine with paper cuts, too, huh?
[He throws the splinter over his shoulder.]
no subject
I do have some pain feedback, as I wouldn't be able to notice things like that otherwise, and risk damaging myself by omission. [ He has too much ways to get damaged already ] It's heavily dulled during combat-mode though.
[ Instead towards the street, where the phenomena was confirmed to happen, he heads in opposite direction, but it's not fat and he gets returned to their spot again. ]
So we are stuck here. [ Genos crosses his arms on his chest, and nods at the successful assessment of the situation. ]
no subject
Maybe.
He watches in disbelief as him trying to leave fails.]
No way! Maybe you didn't do it right!
[He speed walks in the opposite direction of the first street he had got lost in like Genos had, but at a slightly different angle. At least this time when he was returned to the original position it was quick and with less creepy whispers. He tried again and again, different speeds, different angles--all wound up back to the same place. He stares into the distance, dead-eyed.]
Why me...
no subject
I'm putting address and assistance request on the BBS. [ Saitama is bound to get here eventually, but that eventually might mean a bit too long to their liking ]
[ If worst was to happen, they have a way out. If King is a god, he could just give him name, so they could defeat the ayakashi together. But then King is also an unknown, and Genos isn't sure if he can trust him to release that name afterwards. Especially since he already said he has no shinki of his own.
So while it's a solution, it's not a solution Genos would suggest, unless situation turns truly dire ]
no subject
But, at the same time, if Genos brought it up and they were in danger, he would most likely nod furiously yes.
But maybe they wouldn't be in danger! He leans against a wall, sighing.]
Well, maybe we'll be okay right here. I haven't heard any whispers or anything here yet.
[Was he just inviting danger by saying that? Like saying "What else could go wrong?" then it suddenly starts raining. Are those whispers he's hearing over his heartbeat, or an auditory hallucination he's working himself up to?]
no subject
[ But if the whispers are present here, what about the other end of the street? The ayakashi clearly can't influence entire length of it, based on the fact it was previously a safe spot.
Genos walks to the sad remains of the stall, and takes the small roof-thing, then hands it to King. A weak shield it is, but might protect from one or two first bites. ] No point in staying here, let's try the opposite end.
no subject
He follows close behind him as they head in that direction. Was the ayakashi's influence reaching further now that it had prey in its grasp? If they found themselves suddenly back at where they started he might die of a heart attack.]
Ye-yeah. It would be smart to retreat for now and return with a plan.
[Or retreat and hide out somewhere till someone else took care of this in King's case.]
no subject
Retreat? No, I want to lure it out. Make it show itself.
[ Genos is totally prepared to fight if the ayakashi shows itself. But as long as it manifests only as whispers, or random teleportation, there is nothing to raze with fire. ]
My god is powerful, but he stills needs a tangible enemy to punch.
no subject
A-Ah...that sucks...
[Gods should be able to punch intangible things, shouldn't they?]
Maybe this thing doesn't have a body then, then we'll have to try harder to leave. Except you said you saw something move in that one street...
[He mutters that last bit as he looks over his shoulder, almost as if expecting to find a looming shadow of an ayakashi behind him. He's never actually seen one yet, so he's definitely not looking forward to it.]
no subject
I hear you're firing up for a fight.
[ ooc: I saw that you applied, I'm so excited! ]
no subject
[Oh, right. His heart trying to thump out of his chest.]
Oh, yeah. It's no good to be caught unprepared.
[It's weird bluffing in front of Genos again, but it was habit to do so in front of someone ignorant to his true self....]
((Yes! I'm excited too B) Can't wait to play with everyone))
no subject
Another illusion-
[ Of course nothing is there. Aside from hole in a ground and trash can catching fire. ]
Did you see that too?!
no subject
No.
[If he said no, then it totally hadn't happened, right? Except for whatever Genos had shot at was now looming over King's head, unnoticed by the man.]
no subject
Duck
[ At least he remembers to helpfully instruct that, while a flame shoots from his palm ]
no subject
Despite his fear, he is morbidly curious, and cranes his neck to look up from his crouching position to see just what an ayakashi looks like in person, hoping it's not too spooky...]
no subject
Of course! That's why couldn't locate it.
[ It wasn't invisible, it was just hiding. And now suddenly the whole street starts to be filled with thick fog. ]
no subject
If his heart beat was loud before, now it's almost overwhelming.]
What's this? The fog? Does this usually happen?
no subject
Or rather, it's Genos who won't lose track of King. Because he kind of forgets that not everyone can just switch vision mode.
He runs next to the building the ayakashi hid in and destroys the window with one hit, trying to get a look inside. ]
no subject
Hey! Don't go alone.
[Fortunately, Genos was still a vague figure in the fog so King could find him and dash for him, sticking close. Almost too close.]
You see anything?
