Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:
1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

Echoing Endlessly
Many people in the area are complaining about a strange echo following them around. It never seems to go away and, in fact, collects more and more echoes with each passing moment, creating a cacophony of sound. There have been reports of a few people slowly going crazy because of this echoing. It's your job to find what's causing it and put an end to the echoes!
The new craze has swept over the city! Everything French is so in right now, and everyone wants something newer and Frenchier to make them stand out from the crowd. Just your luck, you happen to have something very French you can peddle - or maybe you can convince someone just how French your very Japanese things are!
A very strange old shinki has left you with a very simple request: guard this door and don't let anyone through. It looks like a totally normal door on a totally normal house! You might be curious to peek through it, but it's locked and you were told not to go through yourself either...
There's an ayakashi roaming around that is literally just hundreds of hands that randomly grab people and things and move them around before disappearing. The odd thing is that they are... actually doing good things? Maybe it's a scheme to suck people into a plagued afterlife without being caught, or maybe they just really want to help people out.
There's a certain street in the downtown area that has some of the craziest rumors being spread about it. Apparently going down this street will just bring you back to the entrance, but when you turn around to head back you'll only find yourself at the entrance again. Moreover, there are a lot of creepy things that whisper and appear as you walk, more with each turn you make...

If you're uncertain about anything, feel free to check out the Premise, Rules, and FAQ posts. And don't hesitate to ask any questions you might have on the FAQ!
When and if you're ready to join the game, check out the Taken Characters before throwing in a Reserve and starting on your Application
Have fun!

[A nick isn't automatically fatal, so he doesn't have to worry about it for now. He draws another boundary, but that...won't last.] Be careful, it's stronger than it looks.
[Because he totally wasn't the cause of the boundary shattering or anything!]
My god should be on the way, but...
no subject
If a boundary didn't work the first time, it's not going to work now. If you're waiting for your god, stay back until they get here and stay out of my way.
[Turning his head, he calls out his own shinki's name in a rather curt manner, apparently not particularly impressed with it. The white-robed being shifts immediately into what appears to be a mace, just in time for the ayakashi to hiss and take a swipe at the source of the shifting light. Grabbing the weapon, Shun flips out of the way of the slash, landing on his feet a few paces back and leading the ayakashi's attention to dwindle again, focusing more on Fubuki.]
no subject
[He doesn't move.] Hey. Use me as bait, will you? I don't think we can wait for my god.
[Polite of the ayakashi to wait until Fubuki's finished talking, but after a second, it lunges as expected. Fubuki braces himself, preparing to jump out of the way at the last moment.]
no subject
The ayakashi's landing after the lunge is messy, but not enough to unbalance it for long. However, it's enough of an opening for Shun, and he darts in with the mace, delivering a harsh blow to the thing's face that throws it back into a wall. It seems to weaken and distort with the hit, but just the one isn't enough to kill it, and it flops back into all-fours and swings its head towards Fubuki again, since he's slightly closer to it.
Bracing himself with his weapon, Shun focuses on the monster's movements once more.]
Bring it over here, then, if you want to be bait.
no subject
[He glances behind to get a read on Shun's position, then stands and strikes a pose.] It's your lucky day! Free hugs!
[And here comes the ayakashi. Iiiiiiincoming—! Trusting in Shun's timing, Fubuki ducks.]
no subject
The two consecutive hits do what one hadn't, and with an echoing wail, the akayashi seems to cave in from the point of the impact before tearing apart into nothing. Landing balanced on his feet, Shun glances around the alley to make sure the thing doesn't have backup before he murmurs his shinki's true name, returning it to its more humanoid form.
Ignoring it, he turns to Fubuki instead, giving him a quick, calculating glare.]
Even if your god is too slow for combat, at least you make a decent lure. [It's a compliment. Technically.]
no subject
[He gets up, brushing himself off, but carefully avoiding the place he'd been grazed.]
We make a pretty good team, after all. How about it, want to name me? [Said with the joking manner of someone coming off an adrenaline high, but he'd been taunting the ayakashi so much that it might be hard to discern the difference.]
no subject
I might want to get rid of that thing, but I'm not desperate enough to name a shinki who already has a god.
[Though he doesn't usually give much of a damn about the niceties and "rules" the higher-up gods here like to enforce, he doesn't see the point in stepping on the toes of another god if he doesn't need to.]
no subject
But anyway, thanks. Would've been in trouble without you~ [Should he really sound so cheerful about this WHO CARES HE'S ALIVE PRAISE—er] ... Uh, which god are you?
no subject
It's not that it's not useful in these situations, but it's something whose only purpose is to be used. I don't want to take part in something like that.
[A faint note of the bitterness he has towards the heavens right now is bubbling through there, but not enough to be too offputting.]
Nekhbet. Not that I care about those names.
no subject
[He drops his arms and a bit of the levity returns.] I guess a god would have a different perspective, naturally. But you know... you used it, didn't you?
no subject
[They're fighting for the sake of humans here, and though he does hold his own fights and vendettas in high regard, the protection of civilians is a high priority too. They don't need anything on the scale of what happened to his own home.
Shun observes the motion of the hand, but doesn't comment, even if his eyes narrow slightly.]
no subject
Yeah, that's reasonable. [Pause.] Not that I'm criticizing your methods... [Ahaha...]
UhâNekhbet, huh? What are you the god of?
no subject
Though there's a slight, dismissive sound at the question of his domain, he answers the question.]
Cities of the dead. Vultures, if the decor in my temple is anything to go by. A lot of other things that aren't relevant anymore.
no subject
Is that how you found me? [Since they are in an alley and all.]
no subject
[So no, he was not being the knight in shining armour here, saving Fubuki's hide was basically happenstance. At least he did it instead of leaving him to deal.]
My power isn't related to my domain like that, though I can't say sensing imminent death or something wouldn't be useful.
no subject
It'd also be awful, though. Maybe it's for the best.
no subject
Death isn't anything I'm unused to. [It would still be awful, but he could deal.]
no subject
[Though...] Hopefully you aren't used to many maulings!
