TEST DRIVE # 27



Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:

1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

To get you started, here are some ideas for thread-starters!
Feel free to come up with your own ideas if these don't strike your fancy, though.

Apparition Apparent

Following the ups and downs of their business after the whole Zodiac affair, the fortune tellers of Ginza have searched for another fad to bring in the customers. The old and cheesy is making a revival, and so the fortune tellers have latched onto seances as the next big thing. Trembling tables, knocks on the wall, creepy voices from beyond the grave- all performance art that people will pay big yen for. Or… is it all performance?

Bead Bustle

At the perpetually bustling intersection of Shibuya, someone’s precious bead bracelet has fallen apart. Answer this sudden but intense prayer to recover all the beads and return them to their owner.
Hope you have a bird-like affinity for small, shiny objects, because they’re certain to be thoroughly scattered under the feet of hundreds of pedestrians.

Cattle Cull

It is part of the cycle of commerce: cattle are bred to become beef. One farmer has been struck with melancholy for the fate of the poor beasts, and has asked for divine intervention in choosing which cattle are to die. Be a cattle whisperer and try to divine which beasts are accepting of their fate? Maybe, if it’s all the same to you, at least try to choose the fatty-looking ones.


Delivery Dash

For some reason, a singing telegram business is getting more orders than their small staff can handle! Good for business, so long as the messages can be delivered on time! Button up into your bellhop uniform of choice and head out in pairs on this urgent task to sing messages of all kinds, from silly to serious, to their unwitting recipients. (Just don’t get shot, ok? That’d be unfortunate.)


Epicurean Epidemic

There has been a rash of ayakashi activity in an affluent region of Tokyo. The victims will, out of envy of those around them, start spending money way above their means in order to enjoy grade-A epicurean delights- everything from entertainment to food. Then once the victim starts getting frustrated with their “sudden” lack of money to keep enjoying said delights, the small worm-like ayakashi feeds off that discontent, copies itself, and splits off onto another human.
On the plus side, the copies seem to like staying near each other. On the negative side, over a dozen people have been infected already. Hope you can find and exterminate them all.

Because the sort of trust and coincidences that appear in fictions is just fiction.

[ He may have some Trust Issues. ]

You don't think the real world can be just as strange as fiction?

[Smiling a bit, he looks back up at the shinki.]

The things that gods and shinki do is made on that sort of belief.

[It's like a swing set, Ebisu. You go backwards, you go forwards, it's all down to physics.]

Aah, you're right.

[And the poor bracelet owner is just getting more frantic. All this fuss because of her and that child was nearly hurt and aaaah! She just wants her bracelet back in one piece! Goku crouches again next to Ebisu to pick the beads up.]

Can ya give me a hand? It won't take a minute.

[sweetdeath]

[He fumbles out a packet of tissues and starts trying to wipe the totally gross cud off his face.]

Ewww....

Why can't somebody else make this decision!?

[He's not good with cows! He doesn't know how to deal with cows. They're big and they keep staring at him.]

Can't we just pick the tasty lookin' ones?

[How tasty do any of them look, covered in dirt and standing around in a field? Goku just knows he doesn't want to eat his new friend here that he's still patting on the nose. He's already named it in his head.]

Or, um, the really... old ones? Hey, how can ya tell which ones are the oldest?

Do cows get wrinkles? I don't think they do.

[And they all kind of look equally, well, muddy. And dandruffy. And spitting up grassy green gunk.

This is not the perception Tsuzuki wants of a delicious hamburg steak.]

Maybe, uh, gray hair?

[What's the difference between gray hair on a muzzle and white hairs speckled all over a brown-and-white steer?]

I can do that!

[And he probably won't even get kidnapped or even almost run over by a truck. He has pockets, they can be good for this. Carefully, he starts to pick up more and more beads.]

Are they important to you?

How is it possible that you lot only found only five beads this whole time? You can do better! Pick up the pace and use those bird instincts and vision!

[He's not even all that mad, he's just disappointed. Which might be worse.]

Heads up, eyes down, backs straight! Keep at it! This prayer must be answered, and the sooner we do, the sooner we can return!

HEY!

[Barreling through the Near Shore's residents without them even being aware comes -- your average Netherworld minion. Woo. BUT -- in said minion's hands is a tome which glares balefully at the other demon.]

Why are you bossing around my Prinnies?

It wasn't blessed with anti-gravity capability. Doing so would be foolish as it would simply float away.

[Val....]

Still, this is our duty here, is it not? To answer calls for assistance?

[Valvatorez turned, and blinked at the book that just spoke to him. ...A book. Okay.]

Your Prinnies? They started following me around when I arrived. Not like they were doing anything but milling about, better that they be put to work, are they not?

[...Something about that voice though... it's familiar.]

...Oh, so they weren't working, huh?

[Zetta's anger immediately shifts towards the Prinnies, who regard him with blank and particularly unconcerned looks.]

You lazy ingrates! I should start up a volleyball league with you!

It seems the problems with the quality of Prinnies was more widespread than I thought. Perhaps it's time for some re-education for the whole lot of them once this errand is over!

[And with a hot-blooded cape flourish, he threw out his hand.]

Unless you lot get the lead out! Move!

Well, if that's how it is.

[ She wasn't exactly in a place to object from that point. Despite looking like a child, the god seemed to be pretty experienced, and Chise learned not to judge simply based off of apparent ages. ]

I don't have much experience with prayers that involved the follower's home for something involving their job.

[chibisu]

Then we can help each other.

[He offers his hand with a smile.]

Honestly, I'm still trying to get more experience as well....

[ Oh, those do sound like some ideas. After the first part, it seemed that Chise was mulling over and considering those words. No matter what, the ayakashi had been lured and are in the general area at this point, so they'd have to be dealt with no matter what.

It doesn't quite feel so wrong to do this if it's for the people's safety. ]

If it's the first part that's the issue, I'll get the ball.

[ Valvatorez might have realized a while ago that Chise was exactly the type to come to a decision and just do it. Never mind any other factors, if it seemed to be the right course of action. Which is exactly why she turned and went back into the fortune teller's shop to retrieve it and return outside. ]

If focusing into it draws the ayakashi here, then they could be handled without further problems.

[ Though maybe not right behind the fortune teller, or next to the pedestrians, where they could get hurt. ]

I thought you already were...?

[ She still takes his hand, seeing as the question and them helping one another were two different things. ]

[Mostly he needs help navigating through all these cows... Help.]

Mm, I've been recently reincarnated. I need to learn a lot of things still. Or... Relearning things, I guess?

[Kids should be treated like kids. It was a natural law that even this man with his muddled memory knew. Offering a fond smile, Qrow scratched his chin and made a show of thinking the question over.]

Maybe you could try something with a cool hat instead of a kilt?

[Qrow shrugged, wholeheartedly agreeding with the kid's sentiments even if he wasn't going to verbalize that much. Cherished possessions usually did receive better treatment than this one did-- at least, Qrow suspected as much. His own memory didn't supply him with anything, but he understood this on a viceral level.

Instead he angled his head and waited for the stop light to change, and once more his gaze flickered toward the storm drain.]

...I think some went down there. How do you wanna get them?

[chibisu]

[Mimicking the gesture, Ebisu considers the proposal with all the due carefulness it deserves.]

That would mean coming up with something that would be able to compete with the other winter holidays...

Nah, not to me.

[Goku doesn't bother putting the beads in his pockets, that's an extra step too many for him. He just uses one hand to pick them up and place them safely in the other.]

It's for her! [Gestures over his shoulder at the young woman with a smile.] It just broke, so I'm helping her.
