Player Plot: Local Scientist Ruins Everything He Touches, An Ongoing Saga

After months of planning and experimentation, Add's research on dimensional travel and the disappearing gods/shinki will soon be coming to fruition. On October 1st, Add and a small group of useful pawns trusted assistants will be going on an expedition into the depths of Henir's temple.

... and on the morning of October 2nd (OOCly around January 6th~8th) a giant spatial rend will appear over Henir's temple, along with numerous other tears scattered around the Far Shore that will be spreading otherworldly corruption and powerful ayakashi. Whoops!!

THE LONG VERSION: How Badly Did Add Fuck Up This Time?

Add decided it would be a great idea to mess with some huge ominous energy core in his temple, skip several important safety tests before jumping into things, and then not tell anyone what he's planning to do in case it goes horribly wrong like the last time he tried to mess with things (and the time before that, and the time before that...). Unsurprisingly, this plan is backfiring catastrophically.

Add ([personal profile] subtract), Rin ([personal profile] hellskitchen), Zelda ([personal profile] sageprincess), Oscar ([personal profile] riveres) and Lenneth ([personal profile] nibelungvalesti) will be heading towards the temple's hidden core, hoping to use its power to help open a portal home. Instead, the core is going to draw all of them in and attempt to assimilate them. As a result of them trying to deal with this problem, the temple's chaotic energy will be overflowing into the rest of the Far Shore.

Initially, the only signs of something having gone wrong will be a giant ominous hole splitting open above Henir's temple, revealing the blue and space-y void within, along with some eerie patches of blue energy that begin to grow and spread to cover the temple grounds. Floating rocks and transparent cubes will also begin to appear as the energy spreads itself thicker. Once the temple is completely infested, smaller holes will start to appear in random locations throughout the Far Shore. These tears will only grow to about a meter in length at most, though they'll continue to spread corrupt energy as long as they remain open. Henir-infested ayakashi will also be escaping through these tears, viciously attacking any gods or shinki in sight and spreading the corruption further.

The power from Henir's core is what was used to create the universe in Add's homeworld, but it's also the natural force that causes all things to end: everything was born from the void, and so everything must one day return to it. Needless to say, it's not a force that should be handled carelessly. Exposure in small doses can cause erratic behaviour and memory loss, or in more extreme cases cause horrific mutations into monsters. In higher doses, it's fatal. Anything that becomes completely infested by Henir's energy will eventually be assimilated and absorbed. Contact with the pure energy taken directly from the core would be instant death.

Fortunately for everyone involved, Add is nowhere near as powerful as the real Henir, and the core is limited by his influence as a god. So, while the core's energy will be strong enough to spread itself beyond the temple, the resulting effects will only be temporary and non-fatal. Mostly.

What Is Actually Happening Tho

In short: dimensional tears connected to Add's temple will be cropping up across the Far Shore, spreading spooky corruption around the affected areas.

Gods and shinki exposed to these areas may experience any combination of the following effects for up to 24 hours:
  • Memory loss. This can be as minor or major as you please. Memories might be muddled but intact, or they might be erased completely, or maybe it's just their short term memory that's affected, etc.
  • Heightened emotional state, similar to the recent emotion event. Low exposure might only make certain emotions seem stronger than usual, but high exposure would make all emotions unbearably powerful and difficult to ignore. It may also cause one particular emotion to overwhelm all others, making them feel only one emotion regardless of the situation.
  • Dampened emotional state. Affected characters will lose the ability to feel certain emotions, or all emotions, depending on the severity of the effects.
These side-effects can fluctuate and change throughout the period of a character being affected. Henir is also a god of chaos, after all! So an affected character might be forgetful at first, then lose their emotions, then be extremely emotional, then regain their memories but only feel one emotion, etc., etc. Feel free to play around with it in whatever way works best for you!

The dimensional tears will act similarly to vents: applying enough holy water will purify the corrupt energy and remove the tear, stopping it from spreading further. Larger tears will require more work to seal, though their size and strength can be reduced by any type of magical-based attack (including canon abilities as well as borderlines/shinki spells). Once a tear has been removed, it won't appear in that area again (though a new one might still pop up somewhere nearby...).

Henir-infested ayakashi will be passing through these tears, as another reason not to simply leave them open. To make matters worse, the majority of these ayakashi are the Taboo Noise ayakashi created by Sho, though they're of the smaller variety that was released with the chocolate boxes back in March. The double-mutated ayakashi have the following traits:
  • Animal-shaped, no larger than a bird in size. In addition to the tattoo-like body parts from their Noise influence, these ayakashi will also bear glowing blue lines and markings over their bodies.
  • Extremely aggressive towards gods and shinki.
  • More durable than normal ayakashi. A lone attacker, even if it's a god wielding a shinki vessel, won't be able to do much damage to them, and they'll be initially immune to the Rend spell. To remove this resistance, two or more fighters need to attack the same ayakashi simultaneously. Once it's been weakened by coordinated attacks, the ayakashi will become vulnerable to Rend and can be destroyed as normal.
  • Capable of short-range teleportation. The act of teleportation may also leave small tears in their wake, which will need to be purified.
  • In addition to the normal effects of blight, attacks from these ayakashi can also inflict the side-effects of Henir corruption exposure listed above. Purifying the blight with holy water will reduce or cure any effects caused by an infested ayakashi.
  • After 48 hours, all of the Henir-infested ayakashi will start to degrade and lose their physical forms. Once the corrupt energy completely overtakes them, they'll crumble into sparkling blue fragments and dust before disappearing.
The ayakashi that aren't cross-bred with Sho's Taboo Noise can be of any size or shape, and can be defeated without teamwork like a normal ayakashi. They will retain all other traits from their Henir influence (including aggressive behaviour).

Later in the evening on October 2nd, the tears will stop appearing and eventually start to shrink and fade on their own. By the morning of October 3rd, all traces of the corruption outside of Henir's temple will be gone. All of the Henir-infested ayakashi will be gone as of the morning of October 4th at the latest.

How Else Can I Get Involved?

If there's interest in organizing any investigation or rescue parties to head into the temple, I'm 100% up for plotting things out! I'm not putting any hard limits on this yet, but depending on how many people are interested I may restrict this to only a few characters or groups going in.

Henir's temple is one big illusion maze that can recreate locations from any time or place, and with the core out of control it's going to be particularly unstable. The infested ayakashi will also make an appearance to disrupt any would-be intruders, and the effects of Henir's corrupt energy will be more powerful the deeper one travels into the temple. As for what can be done once the core is found, that depends on who decides to go in there. The trapped characters will be making their escape one way or another, but I'm sure they'd all appreciate a bit of outside help.

I also have one very specific request if anyone is interested. If anyone is willing to kill their character in the name of science, please let me know and I'll figure out how to make it happen. I swear it's for a good reason. Honest! You won't regret it!

Questions, Concerns, Planning, Etc.?

Leave a comment here and I'll get back to you ASAP! Apologies in advance if I'm tl;dr, I like details : (

If you want to make plans with other players, feel free to start a new thread in this post!

Also!! Feel free to add me on Plurk at [plurk.com profile] BlueFlewFedUQueen for further updates/plotting! I'll do my best to make any notable developments available on the OOC comm, but I do a lot of my plotting over plurk so that's the best way to reach me if you want to keep up with all the little details.

Getting to this super late, but can I just say that I adore you for breaking out Sho’s taboo ayakashi and making them even more obnoxious? It makes me miss playing the big stupid cat.
