TEST DRIVE # 23



Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:

1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

To get you started, here are some ideas for thread-starters!
Feel free to come up with your own ideas if these don't strike your fancy, though.

Gross Garbage

Waste removal has become an intense process in many cities in Japan. Because the sorting of different trash can be very complicated, some residents just end up saying to heck with it. However, the neighbours are vigilant, and heap curses upon those who break the rules. Putting out the wrong thing on the wrong day, mixing plastics with the burnables, putting out the biodegradables the night before, which attracts crows that scatter the rotting food all over the place… the infractions are many.
Will you join in cursing the ones who can’t follow the rules, or perhaps instead gracefully try to mend their ways?


Honoured Helper

For the last 20 years, Hanako has worked faithfully at her cleaning job, 10 hours a day, 7 days a week, without a single day off.
The momentous achievement was celebrated with her coworkers, but it was unanimous among them that Hanako really should take some time off! But the woman is stubborn, and is completely unwilling to take the time offered. (What would she do with herself, even?)
All her friends and coworkers can do is pray that someone can convince her to take a well-earned rest… It might take some heavenly intervention.


Ingenious Insects

While crows are famous for being clever, there seems to be an insect following in their footsteps. Rhinoceros beetles have been getting in everywhere. It’s late in their lifespan and people are generally hoping the lot of them die off soon, but in the meantime people have been coming home to find the large beetles getting into every room, even when they’re carefully closed up. Probably the only ones thrilled with this are kids who like to collect the bugs for fighting matches.
Residents of the Far Shore will be able to see that there are beetle-like ayakashi running with the mundane ones, and they seem to be on the hunt for something.
Try to figure it out, protect the kids who might mistake an ayakashi for a real rhinoceros beetle, or kill every bug with fire?


Jilted John

John’s girlfriend Julie says she loves him, but she’s up and left for another guy named Gordon. Julie is cruel, heartless, a slut and a bitch! Gordon thinks he’s tough (so what if he’s bigger, better looking and more trendy than John) but he’s actually a moron, a cheap creep and a puff!
John is now desperately wanting someone to deck Gordon the moron good. Preferably smashing his face in. Help Jilted John out?


King’s Keeper

King Koopa, a stout, shorthaired two-year-old tabby, is headed straight for YouTube fame as a video-game-playing cat. Or he was, until, just last week, he completely lost interest in the keyboard. His desperate owner has been trying everything: bird screensavers, a catnip mouse, even treats hidden in the keys... but nothing brings back Koopa's love of the game. Is he just camera shy? Feeling blue? His owner needs divine intervention to help teach a young cat his old trick!

[Futaba gives an embarrassed laugh at Adrien's reaction, rubbing at the back of her neck as John stalks off in anger.]

But seriously, that was really cool. Not everybody would speak up to a creep like that.

[She smirks a little as he repeats her words.]

Yeah. Pretty cool, right?

[Futaba shrugs. She doesn't seem too concerned.]

I'll just follow her in. I can do even more from inside.

Or you could do something a little more permanent from outside.

[He flashes a weak smile, storm grey eyes flickering as he lays a hand on the reader. He could feel the electricity running through it, and he had the distinct impression that it was all quite delicate.

Which is why Channeling a little Fire and Earth into it probably wasn't smart. But it hissed and popped, forcing him to pull back his hand with a yelp.]

Now it won't work for anyone.

[Futaba lets out a surprised squeak as the card reader shorts, jumping back a step.]

Well. Uh. I guess that works too.

[twiceandtwice]

It should keep her from getting in now.

[Nevermind that she's reached into her pocket and taken out her cell phone...and starts speaking into it.]

What is she doing?

[all_seeing_eye]

Probably calling her supervisor or a coworker asking to be let inside.

Is that a Callbox then?

[No, wait, he waves his hand.]

Don't...answer that. How can we stop it?

[all_seeing_eye]

It's a cell phone.

[Not that she thinks that's likely to mean much to him, but whatever.]

I mean, if I can get my hands on it, I can stop it from working too. Other than that, there's not really much we can do about it.

If you get your hands on it...

[Well, that's not really a problem. He reaches a hand out and channels Air, giving the phone a yank. It drops to the ground, like a particularly strong gust had blown it, and it continues to roll along till it comes to rest beneath a bush.]

Best be quick.

[...Ema was willing to watch how this guy dealt with this situation considering her being late to the party, but she gives him a look not much better than the cat's for a second before stepping forward to offer it a playful smile.]

Don't mind him, he's a casual fan... [Said as Ema makes a very obvious effort to hustle him back away from the cat so she can murmur in his ear.]

It's video, silly, the owner's going to find you out at this rate. Can't you be a little more convincing?

[Shortly after Futaba's interference with the reader, another woman comes out of a nearby security room. She's dressed professionally, seeming like she has every right to be there, but she sighs a little petulantly as she pulls her purple hair out of the bun she had it in.]

And I was a moment from doing that myself. It's not fair to ruin people's hard work.

[For all the chiding, though, the woman doesn't actually seem offended, and she smiles slightly and winks at Futaba.] I don't think this will stop her long, but shall we interfere a little more while she waits?

[ Ah, yes. That. Rei squints, can't see anything. Then closes her eyes to rely on the senses she can use.

If Rikku thought she was intent before, this takes the cake. ]

He thought it was a regular bug.

[He turns away so his back is to the crying boy. His voice gains a little strength and a bit more edge once he does.]

If you told him it was a monster, he'd just want it back even more. Stop worrying about it.

[Tiny ayakashi like this are barely worth his time, anyway. If he could torch the park to take care of the whole issue, he would. As long as he gets the necessary result and his god doesn't get blighted, he's satisfied.]

[He's not willing to give up the point, but he also seems more interested in making smart remarks about it than actually engaging in a reasoned argument.]

[ "Fan" ears her a confused look as well as "video". ]

[She felt that small amount of emotion and he snuffed it out as quickly as it came.]

[So saying, he leans over and picks up the ayakashi. It'll blight his fingers, but there's an easy antidote for that.]

I'll be taking this. Explain to the children why the bad man took their plaything, would you?

Heh, you really are a little hopeless, aren't you? [She seems more amused by it than anything, though.] A "fan" can also mean someone who likes someone famous.

[That second attempt is closer to the mark, but Ema points to her mouth for a moment and makes a very exaggerated "v" sound to try and get it across.] "V", video, like this, see? And he'll find out you don't know the first thing about the cat. Wouldn't you get suspicious if someone who should know nothing about your famous cat just showed up to help one day?

[ Judar, you're way more of a nerd than you looked. That and a spoiled brat. Then again, with that hair and midriff, how much did Yata expect?

In fact... While he didn't wear shoes, even someone like him could kick at John's chest to knock him back and get his attention. It seems that he was taking care of the prayer in his own way. ]

[The woman has been preoccupied with her phone for long enough to forget Futaba's presence, giving her enough time to dash over to the bushes and pick it up before she realizes where it's gone. Taking out her own phone, she quickly presses some buttons and changes a few settings on both before tossing the woman's phone out of the bush. Peeking around from the side, she gives Rand a thumbs up.]

Well, duh, we're gonna wash her paws off after!

[That's good, because Futaba doesn't seem sorry that she beat her to the punch! She flashes a small smirk back, nodding enthusiastically.]

Yeah, this was just a warm up. Get me into that security room and I'll show you what I can really do.

[Rand will just assume a ninja is a good thing. Honestly, he doesn't much care so long as this woman's wish is fulfilled and this girl is happy.

He nods at her too, and when the woman picks up her phone and starts to dial...there's trouble. But what kind?]
