TEST DRIVE # 23



Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:

1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

To get you started, here are some ideas for thread-starters!
Feel free to come up with your own ideas if these don't strike your fancy, though.

Gross Garbage

Waste removal has become an intense process in many cities in Japan. Because the sorting of different trash can be very complicated, some residents just end up saying to heck with it. However, the neighbours are vigilant, and heap curses upon those who break the rules. Putting out the wrong thing on the wrong day, mixing plastics with the burnables, putting out the biodegradables the night before, which attracts crows that scatter the rotting food all over the place… the infractions are many.
Will you join in cursing the ones who can’t follow the rules, or perhaps instead gracefully try to mend their ways?


Honoured Helper

For the last 20 years, Hanako has worked faithfully at her cleaning job, 10 hours a day, 7 days a week, without a single day off.
The momentous achievement was celebrated with her coworkers, but it was unanimous among them that Hanako really should take some time off! But the woman is stubborn, and is completely unwilling to take the time offered. (What would she do with herself, even?)
All her friends and coworkers can do is pray that someone can convince her to take a well-earned rest… It might take some heavenly intervention.


Ingenious Insects

While crows are famous for being clever, there seems to be an insect following in their footsteps. Rhinoceros beetles have been getting in everywhere. It’s late in their lifespan and people are generally hoping the lot of them die off soon, but in the meantime people have been coming home to find the large beetles getting into every room, even when they’re carefully closed up. Probably the only ones thrilled with this are kids who like to collect the bugs for fighting matches.
Residents of the Far Shore will be able to see that there are beetle-like ayakashi running with the mundane ones, and they seem to be on the hunt for something.
Try to figure it out, protect the kids who might mistake an ayakashi for a real rhinoceros beetle, or kill every bug with fire?


Jilted John

John’s girlfriend Julie says she loves him, but she’s up and left for another guy named Gordon. Julie is cruel, heartless, a slut and a bitch! Gordon thinks he’s tough (so what if he’s bigger, better looking and more trendy than John) but he’s actually a moron, a cheap creep and a puff!
John is now desperately wanting someone to deck Gordon the moron good. Preferably smashing his face in. Help Jilted John out?


King’s Keeper

King Koopa, a stout, shorthaired two-year-old tabby, is headed straight for YouTube fame as a video-game-playing cat. Or he was, until, just last week, he completely lost interest in the keyboard. His desperate owner has been trying everything: bird screensavers, a catnip mouse, even treats hidden in the keys... but nothing brings back Koopa's love of the game. Is he just camera shy? Feeling blue? His owner needs divine intervention to help teach a young cat his old trick!

[Adrien doesn't like that look on her face. He doesn't know what caused it but it doesn't sit well with him. This guy isn't even on the planet as devotion but he's biting his tongue.]

I get that you're hurt and angry. You obviously want to lash out but it won't help.

[He's glancing up, watching for something/i> - what he isn't sure. Ayakashi maybe but he's not sure why he expects them to come from the sky rather than anything else.

Shyly, he's reaching to place his hand on his god's shoulder; offering a grounding anchor least she get carried away. He flashes her a warm reassuring smile as he squeezes her shoulder. He's proud of her.]

That sounds like some very sound advice, My Lady.

[At that point, she's about five seconds away from telling John to take a long walk off a short pier. But that would be counter-productive. Or whatever. She couldn't help feeling like she wasn't going to be able to get through to this guy regardless of what she did.]

Look, there are plenty of fish in the sea. Maybe try your luck with someone new?

['And don't turn into a dick the second things don't seem like they're going your way?' she added silently.

She was about to say something else when she felt a hand on her shoulder.]

Th-

[Her words died in her throat, and her head whipped around so fast it was a miracle she wasn't dizzy. Somewhere, she was almost certain that Hawkmoth was laughing his idiotic head off right now.]

Thank you, Adrien.

[Fine. This was just fine.]

[Adrien is watch Hibiki as she comes closer, arching a brow. The movements, the grace it's familiar he's learned that walk. Now he knows how people feel seeing Chat. That bow though it's nicely done, he'd applaud it if he thought the show was over.

Green eyes fix on Hibiki. Is she serious? She thinks something this over the top will work?]

What is..?

[Is this the real world or did he get sucked into an anime? Are those shoujo sparkles? Is this some rip-out of that host club show? He's momentarily distracted by those sparkles like a cat watching dust motes in the sunlight. What has his life come to?]

Insects!

[letteropener]

But maybe he had a good reason.

[Perhaps unbeknownst to Orihime, she had company -- an alicorn that had wandered up to peer curiously over her shoulder at the goings-on in the insect world that so fascinate the human girl.]

[rejecting]

[ When she looks over her shoulder, she gasps. This is an important revelation! ]

Maybe you're right! Mr. Sadaharu hasn't been having a good day so far. Maybe Mr. Yuuchou wasn't listening to his concerns. Or maybe they both have feelings for the same girl!

[ She turns back to the insect drama unfolding on the tree, and leans closer to one of the beetles. ]

Please try to understand, Mr. Yuuchou. If you both have the same feelings for her then you should have empathy for Mr. Sadaharu. Maybe you can work to make it a friendly rivalry!

[Albafica was standing well away from people in general, but between the crying and the shouting, he's cautiously come over.]

[He nods at Kagaho.] Allow me.

[He quickly surrounds the ayakashi with borderlines, and then turns to the kids.] Children, you won't be able to touch it.

You can give them advice, but if you don't know the situation, anything you say might make things worse. In the end, this is for them to work out for themselves. The greatest gift you can give them is your strength and support, when both of them may need somewhere else to turn.

[Celestia is such a bastion of calm serenity that even in this case, she can gently guide and aid somepony in need.]

[freezetheheavens]

You might be doing it wrong since those are normal beetles.

[But if she's been here for a while, there's no telling if the ayakashi are already waiting and lurking to get her.]

Right. You don't always get the one you wanted but the one you wanted isn't always The One

[Said like someone with experience or at least the vague notion of it.]

People are just people with no control over who they love both of you deserve to be happy just maybe not with each other.

[Seeing Marinette turn to him so fast his brows are arching with concern. Worry settling over his features.]

You're welcome. Maybe we should let John be for a bit?

[He can see the tension in her and it's his duty as her Shinki to ease that. Pushing up from the bench he's offering her his hand to help her to her feet. They can keep an eye on him from a distance. It'll be fine. It's clear to Adrien that Marinette needs a break before she breaks this guy's face with a fist.]

King's Keeper

[Futaba decided to tag along with Orihime to help out. She loves cats and video games, after all. Her friend seems to have a presentation all worked out already, so she decides to let Orihime take point. It isn't long after she finishes with the first page that Futaba feels compelled to speak up, bespectacled eyes peeking up over the top of her laptop while her fingers continue typing.]

Actually, cats don't do very well in space. They mostly just roll around in uncontrollable airborn circles trying to find 'up.'

[A few more keystrokes, and she turns the screen around to show Orihime. She's got a video loaded up, which she starts to play.]

[Where had that even come from?]

I couldn't have said it better, myself.

[And he seemed to have a great deal more patience for this than she did at the moment. She'd have to figure out a way to thank him properly for that later.]

You could learn a lot from him, John.

[It's probably pretty clear that she's already over this, and she's more than willing to let Adrien distract her before she loses what little patience she has left. Smiling, she lets him help her to her feet, and laces their fingers together.]

I think that's an excellent idea.

[ Hibiki reaches for Hanako's hand. She is nowhere near done yet. Not with the sparkling, or the speaking. ] I've come to invite you to become my fan. If you do, your weary heart will find rest.

[ She presses that hand between her own. ] Now, relax.

[ THERE ARE EVEN MORE SPARKLES NOW. But are they working? ]

[When Futaba hears 'get this woman to take a vacation,' she decides that the easiest way to achieve that is 'stop this woman from getting into her job.' And considering that she's not terribly fond of socializing with strangers to begin with, she decides the easiest way to accomplish this is via dual abuse of her status as a resident of the Far Shore and her god power.

Arriving bright and early and well ahead of Hanako, Futaba can be seen walking over to the digital card reader that the employees have to use to gain access to the lobby of the building. Closing her eyes, she touches the reader, concentrating for a few seconds before opening them again and smiling to herself.]

There. That should do it.

[When Hanako arrives and scans her card, there's a red light and a beep as she is denied entry. Futaba simply smirks.]

Jilted John

[Wow. That sure is some language. How did Futaba even get involved in this, anyway? This guy just sat down and started complaining. With a resigned sigh, she pushes up her glasses and turns to John.]

...If you want relationship advice, you've come to the wrong girl. But here. I've got something that'll help.

[Fiddling with her cell phone for a moment, she holds it out to him.]

It's a download code for a dating sim game. Sounds like you need to study up.

King's Keeper

[Futaba loves both cats and video games, and has actually seen some of King Koopa's videos. She is so on this.]

Hey, hey, King Koopa! Can I have your autograph? I'm a really big fan!

[She'll get around to fixing the problem at hand eventually. This is more important.]

Wildcard

[If you've got another idea, hit me up! I'm down for whatever.]

Either a victim or its home nest.

[ She has not seen enough evidence for either. And she will move as stealthily as she can to follow said bug. Hugging walls, the whole nine yards.

The bug just flutters along. Doing bug things. ]

[risingdarkness]

[That escalated quickly.

He shifts against the wall, cocking his chin up so he's looking down at her even more. Even leaning back, he's still more than half a foot taller than she is (not even counting his hair), and he's not above making use of that.]

If that was true, every building in this world would be leaking blood.

[After all, who doesn't die with regrets? The world isn't so kind as to give everyone what they want, or even a lucky few.]

[risingdarkness]

[Kagaho growls under his breath and turns on Albafica, bristling.]

I didn't ask for your help!

[It doesn't matter whether he needed it or not, either. This guy has always rubbed him the wrong way and he has zero interest in cooperating with him.]

[purr_ince]

[Please someone remind him of this when he gets back to Paris. He needs to apologize profusely to His Lady. He gets it now.]

I don't think that this is the kind of rest and relaxation her friends were wanting her to take.

[He's just shaking his head and it's taking his everything not to slam his palm against his forehead and rake his fingers over his face. Thankfully the sparkles come to his rescue and he's not so absently watching them before reaching out to try and catch them.]

I try my best.

[He smiled at her. He's drawing on patience, he seems to have a pretty steadfast supply and one of them needs to be grounded so that's what he'll be. He'll be whatever his god needs him to be.

His face flushes at her praise and he rubs at the back of his neck awkwardly.]

I- I don't know about that. I just figured that's what seems right, you know?

[He's flashing her a warm smile squeezing her hand reassuringly before leading her away a short distance. They can get something to drink and she'll be able to calm down.]

If you'd like I can keep an eye on him. I think if he takes a couple days to cool off his urge to cause trouble'll pass. Maybe he'll be more level-headed and rational; act like an adult and not a jerk.

Her satisfaction is paramount.

[ She's not phased. Not even in the slightest. Not even when Adrien tries to catch a sparkle (should he succeed, it will break with a glass-shattering sound effect, but nothing will harm his hand). And why should she be?

After all, Hanako-san is staring so attentively! Jaw slightly askew.

This can only bode good things. ]

Your best is better than most.

[The best part of that is that she isn't even exaggerating. He seemed to have endless patience when it came to this kind of thing. Or at the very least, he was better at hiding it when he started to get irritated. Either way, he was great.

She noted his flushed face with an arched brow, but chose not to say anything about it for the moment.]

Don't be so modest. It was great.

[And then she's just going to let him lead her away, because she's really had enough of John's grumping.]

You don't have to do that, Adrien. I agree that he should take a couple of days to rethink things, though.

[Celty's not entirely sure how she got wrapped up in this, but thanks to the time she's spent online she's familiar enough with the famous cat. Really you'd have to be a Luddite not to.

Still, she's a bit unsure as Futaba speaks to the fuzzy gamer.]

Um, I'm not sure if it knows how to give an autograph.

[An ink impression of its paw springs to mind but she doesn't see a pad anywhere.]

[Despite her blank face, the Shinki connection lets her feel the brief suppressed sadness in Kagaho. Now she feels guilty, but for her artificial life, cannot show it.]

It was a Ayakashi. If it was kept alive, it would have harmed him. He was very proud of it though...

[ They probably are. She was so zoned out on her imaginary insect drama, she was a total sitting duck.

She looks completely dismayed by Hitsugaya's revelation though. She lowers her head a bit and pushes herself away from the tree trunk. Of course she was doing it wrong. She hasn't trained enough to be useful for a mission, and now she feels kind of stupid for even trying. ]

I guess I really messed it up, huh?

[ She manages to lift her face and smile sheepishly as she rubs the side of her head. Gotta try to shove down those feelings of inadequacy! ]

[rejecting]

Maybe... Maybe you're right.

[ She smiles a little sadly, turning away from tree. ]

If neither of them are an ayakashi, I guess I shouldn't get in the way of their relationships.

[rejecting]

Hm..

[ Lowering her sketchpad, Orihime leans in and watches the video with a deep frown of concentration. Her eyes widen when she sees the cats flailing around. She hastily flips to her next drawing and holds it up for Futuba. ]

What about this one? Do you think it's okay?

[ It's a picture of Koopa in a professional basketball uniform. He's jumping over a luxury sports car to make a spectacular dunk. Hopefully Futaba can steer her in the right direction and they can start the presentation over!

She gives a nervous glance back over her shoulder at Koopa though. Hopefully he wasn't offended by her first idea. ]
