TEST DRIVE # 22



Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:

1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

To get you started, here are some ideas for thread-starters! Feel free to come up with your own ideas if these don't strike your fancy, though.



Buttered Buns

Things are tough for small bakeries in huge cities. It seems like there’s always a bigger chain offering less expensive breads around the corner. To compete, “Four Clover” bakery has gone all-in with a campaign to attract customers, and you’re here to help. They’ve put together a mascot costume for you (degree of cuteness up to player’s imagination), printed a zillion flyers, blown up bunches of balloons… and in praying for the success and prosperity of their store, they’ll certainly go along with whatever heaven-sent ideas come along.

Copious Copies

Outdoor art exhibitions take advantage of the best days of the start of fall. In one large park, a multitude of unique bronze and ceramic statues are on display. However, there’s way more of them than there actually should be. The artist and organizers are stumped by a plethora of near-perfect copies standing alongside the originals. Should a god or shinki get close enough they’ll be able to tell which are ayakashi pretending to be statues, but don’t get your nose bitten off. And don’t break an actual statue while hunting the ayakashi. Please.

Debt Diversion

Formula car races are huge draws for those who love speed, and those who love betting. Snake skeleton ayakashi are twining themselves around the necks of betters, whispering in their ears to seduce the humans into crippling debt.
While gods and shinki are in a human’s blind spot and generally go unnoticed, trying to remove an ayakashi from someone might draw attention, depending on how you go about it. And in a crowd this large, there just might be a human who will notice a strange pair trying to do something to someone else’s neck...

ESP and Extraterrestrials

A group approaches you. Some of them look relatively normal, if a bit on edge. Some of them look the very image of a nerd. And all of them are looking at you intently. This group of searchers of the paranormal have somehow (accurately) honed in on you, and are intent to find out everything about you. What planet are you from? What’s up with those clothes? That hair? Do you have any special powers?!
While they welcome you in peace, they are also very unwilling to let this interview end with your escape… Might need a friend to help you out (or throw you to the wolves).


Fashionable Frills

Fashion runway. Frills. Shirts, pants, dresses, underwear; the changing room is full of variety.
Go strut your stuff.
It’s for a good cause, honest.

Shin-Ah, huh? [ Kinda weird, but who was he to judge? At least it wasn't a mouthful of letters he was never going to remember again, for once. ] Normally people like that aren't a problem - don't even notice us unless we try to make them - but I guess this was an exception.

Weren't you paying attention at shinki 101? [ Yata just rolls his eyes, shrugging one shoulder. ] It's not up to us to decide that, anyway. Besides, the more idiots are, the more prayers our gods are likely to get to deal with the idiots, right? It works out. Or something.

[ Thankfully, the artists are way too stunned to react... and Yukio does apologize, promising replacements for the lot... or at least compensation. Somehow he's grateful for Gehenna's coffers. At least he doesn't have to worry about not being able to pay all that back.

But somehow, he feels he can't really fault Rin. That's always been his way: making things worse no matter how good his intentions.

But speaking of Rin, he's whipping out his phone as he hurries down the direction his twin was going. As he briskly walks, he's already tapping at his phone to his contacts and calling his brother in case he doesn't spot him. ]

"Hm, that's a shame. I'm not sure I'd shop anywhere they don't understand the concept of a sample."

Ema offers him a slight wink, an amused smile playing about her mouth. She'd just been passing by, but really, it seemed a disappointment for a nice little bakery like this to get an answer to their prayer for someone who didn't seem to realise the basics of selling yourself. She's just going to hope he's not a god, for his own sake if nothing else.

"I think you'll find that's a bad idea. Or you just did, hm?"

The light remark comes from a woman leaning against a wall nearby, in a dark, skintight motorcycling outfit. There's a smile about her mouth and a general air of confident amusement in her features, but it all becomes a little more serious as she straightens up and surveys the area.

"It's a complex problem, isn't it? At the neck is a hard place to work around."

While she's not completely oblivious to Samus' plight, she seems more concerned with the problem at hand for the moment. Solving it would be to her god's profit, after all.

You're running off awfully fast. You do have a plan, right?

[Where there was nobody on that railing a moment ago, there's now a woman in a short hooded dress and boots, one leg crossed over the other. She seems a little amused by his haste, and she gestures with one long-fingered hand to the way the ayakashi is moving.]

Unless you can get rid of it before it finds a host, you'll just draw attention to yourself. And it would be a real shame for you to get escorted out for disrupting the crowd. [She winks slightly, as if she'd find it entertaining either way.]

B-Bulma?

[Why did you sound like Freiza just now?

He was flying around initially when he heard her voice, the sound of it heartachingly familiar that he can't help but stop. For some reason, though, it looks as if Bulma is completely in her element, too...]

Gohan?

[ She easily pushes through the surprised crowd, completely ignoring their protests. ]

Is that really you? You seem kind of different.

[ She taps her chin thoughtfully as she scrutinizes his appearance. He seems younger, at least. She'd probably grill him about his skin care regimen if he weren't half Saiyan. ]

Copious Copies - have a little sister shinki so they can learn to fight each other all over :D

As much as art shows aren't really Kagura's thing... Here she is. She had just been ready to lay into a set of twin statues when some maniac manages to beat her to it. Not only that, but there's just something about him that really grates on her. Maybe it's the way he stole her whole look? Or maybe the dumb smile on his face. Who knows. Still, she knows she has to let him know he's not as cool as he seems to think he is.

"That is all wrong, yes?" She pushes past him, and marches up to a set of statues. The kick she launches at the pair cuts right through and rains stone down on the confused people passing by. "Ah, maybe in a hundred years you can learn to kick like me, yes? I might teach you if you say 'please' real nice!"

Kamui returns the smile.

“Sure it is. It’s an example of how good they are. I wouldn’t be eating it if it wasn’t, now would I?”

I am here for this!!

Who was this little imp stealing his look? Kamui watched as she made her way to the statues, sending a kick that sent them crumbling down. The smile on his face doesn’t falter. He’s all for games.

“Ah yes, I could definitely learn from your mistakes.” Stepping up in front of another statue, he does a round about kick that seperates the middle section of the statue, sending it through three other statues lined up next to each other, breaking all four down at once.

“Maybe in a thousand years, you’ll learn a real kick. And maybe even grow an inch.”

Arrives as promised -- for BUNS!

Ah-ha!

[The figure that leaps around the corner is, apparently, a bear. A big sort of round bear with a shirt that reads "HONEY BUNS", and a rather hapless pair of eyes peering out of the mouth hole.]

So you're the mascot attempting to interfere with the rightful dominance of the Honey Bun Bakery! Your days are numbered, you four-leafed fiend!

[The prayers of the Honey Bun Bakery had not, in the slightest, specifically requested that their mascot duel the Four Clover Bakery mascot to the death. But Edge is a straightforward man from a different world.]

Wow. What a creep! That smile is seriously getting to her now, not to mention the comments.

"Peh. Maybe by then you'll grow a centimeter where it counts, yes?" She takes a brief pause from her intensely hateful glaring to nod to the tiki-looking fertility statue next to her. The thing should really be slathered in mosaic with children around.

Despite that, she lifts the enormous statue above her head, and maybe just casually hurls it at the grinning chump with all her strength.

[Look -- she's not wrong, but the show must go on, right? Edge scratches at his hair, trying to figure out the best way to mollify her... then decides on his usual tactic: going for absolute broke.]

That's the real glory of you wearing it! You're so beautiful you make even that dress look good! You're the only one who can truly make it shine!

Black tea would be best.

[ Although a shame that nothing grander than this seat is available, Hibiki is gratified by this chance to sit in the corner so she can be antisocia----er, survey the kingdom. ] The highest-quality you have.

[ Give her liquid gold in a cup. ]

“Oh my,” he ducks, catching it right by the mosaic and spinning on his heels for momentum before chucking it in what just so happens to be her direction.

“Didn’t your parents teach you not to throw ******* around?”

[ Congratulations Edge! You get a very distrustful sidelong glance from Bulma. Sure, he's stopped her raging, at least momentarily, but this isn't the first time someone's tried this on her. ]

Hmmph. It's true that I'm a natural beauty who looks good in anything, [ Ok, she ended up taking the bait despite knowing better. ] but I don't want to be seen in this! Are you the designer? Can't you fix it?

[kusogaki]

She grits her teeth as she catches the statue, the force causing her to dig her heels into the ground as she slides backward a bit.

"I'm an angel, so I came from Heaven, not parents!" At least, in her mind she is since she doesn't remember her parents.

She bounces into the air and flings the mosaic statue down at him. It's the horrible game of catch her childhood always lacked.

“An angel?” Kamui snorts in amusement. “If you’re what waiting for them, no wonder humans are sinning more.”

Ripping another statue off the ground, kamui swings at the incoming statue, breaking it apart. Catch was meant to be played with a ball, right? She can have a pair, and then some.

Kamui looks up in awe, looking the figure up and down whis fingers rubbing at his chin. “Wah! This statue talks! Though I guess it needed one redeeming quality..”

Do I?

[He smiles at her. It's good to see such a familiar face. After what Mai had told him about the future Bulma--

It takes a lot of willpower not to just hug her right now.]

You look the same as ever.

[It could have been worse, Bulma; you could already be wearing the pink, ruffled horror Mai currently found herself in.]

[The young(?) goddess wasn't entirely sure how she ended up in this situation. One minute, she was tentatively volunteering her services to help fufill...what she thought had been a prayer. Now, she wasn't entirely sure. Of anything, really, starting with how the assistant had managed to get the dress on her so quickly. She was left standing in a state of near-shock, staring blankly ahead of her while only barely acknowledging the reflection in her peripheral vision.]

[Until she heard a shockingly familiar voice. Familiar and loud, carrying across the room with such intensity that Mai knew it could only be one person:]

...Bulma?

[She turned, every ruffle wanting to bounce in a different direction, as wide eyes scanned the room in search of her friend.]

Whoa! [ Nanako's eyes go wide as she accepts the arrangement, cradling it carefully in her hands. ] Thank you! You tied it lots! Uh... but what is it, though?

[slightlysaggy]

Well, just a little.

[ And she'll take his comment as a compliment. Even though, for her, it hasn't been too long since she last saw him. Never look a gift compliment in the mouth though! Or something! ]

So Gohan, how have you been doing? [ So casual, because she got a good portion of her meltdowning out when she first arrived. ] Have you seen anyone from home around? Like my husband or your dad? Or maybe my son?

[ She knows they can all take care of themselves, but she'd feel just a little bit better if she could personally keep an eye on them. And having one of the strength obsessed full saiyans around would be nice. If anyone could go crazy and somehow fight their way out of this situation it would be one of those two. ]

[slightlysaggy]

[ Of course Bulma hears her name, but her rage clouded mind can't really discern who that voice belongs to. Though, the other people within earshot will likely be praising Mai's name into eternity, because Bulma actually halts her tirade to figure it out.

She sets out across the room, trying to squeeze her cascading Hell dress in between the other guests. When she finally sets her eyes on Mai, she lets out a little gasp. ]

Mai?
