TEST DRIVE # 20



Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:

1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

To get you started, here are some ideas for thread-starters! Feel free to come up with your own ideas if these don't strike your fancy, though.



Rope bridge Rumble

An adventure park that features several scary-exciting climbs and crossings between trees using only ropes has a huge problem. The ropes are getting unexpectedly tangled up. Even worse, it sometimes happens when a customer is trying to make a crossing, tripping them up in the midst of their course! While the safety ropes have been doing their job at keeping customers uninjured, the employees are fervently praying that whatever is doing this will go away, before something worse happens.

Steady Shave

It's the height of summer, and even men that treasure their beards, mustaches and sideburns dearly are driven to get it shaved off in the name of heat reduction. Small barbershops are being overrun with customers who want it all shaved off- some even going so far as to want their head shaved bare.
Answer the barber's pleas for a couple extra hands. May they be steady.

Toil and Trouble

A performance of Macbeth is being haunted by an ayakashi causing bad luck. Props getting misplaced or needing repairs, color gels for the lights getting torn, the microphones keep kicking up feedback- The customary wish of 'break a leg' feels dangerously close to becoming real. Rescue the Scottish Play from its curse before the curtain rises!

Ubiquitous U-turns

Elementary school children go home in groups for safety. However that measure isn't helping against some children getting home very late. And none of the kids can bring themselves to say why they end up taking so many wrong turns on the way. Take up a traffic flag and your best teacher voice, and help the children find their proper way home, keeping an eye out for anything - mundane or supernatural - that might be leading the kids astray.

Violet Veranda

Cheerful violets grew unusually well this year on the college dorm veranda, to the point where the whole perimeter of the veranda is full of containers holding them. But now the flowers are nearing the end of their life, and something strange is happening to the students at the same time. As the flowers wilt and fade, so does the energy of the students living in the dorm. While it would normally be impossible to draw a connection between the two, residents of the Far Shore can see the truth- tiny ladybug-like energy-hungry ayakashi are moving from flowers to students. Take care of this however you can before the last petal falls!

Steady Shave

[Elena had been sitting nearby with her cup of iced coffee, watching the door to the barber shop stay nearly perpetually open with heavily bearded men walking out as clean shaven boys. Then the line grew. And grew. Until finally...]

All right, finished. [Elena is standing next to one of the many filled seats, her customer a mid-20's male rubbing his nearly perfectly shaved chin.] Though, I'd recommend getting a haircut in this weather within the week.

Ubiquitous U-turns

[Small, adorable children in distress? Who could say no to their worried, afraid little faces when asking for help? Not Elena. Nope. Especially when one of them starts crying.]

Now, now. No need for tears. [She's squatting down, knees pressed together, fingers lightly touching the ground for extra balance.] My name is Laney. I'll help you all find your homes.

[Standing, she reached out her hand and, as the small hand grabbed hers, she gave a gentle squeeze.]

All right,everybody link hands and we'll start walking together. Okay?


Wild card!

[Don't worry, Lancer has his own bad decisions to work through.]

I'll look forward to it. [As far as Lancer knows, he doesn't have any of his own natural magic ability, so magic is out. But he's sure Caster can teach him something interesting.

Hell yes let's grow bamboo and create a wicker man]

[ E-luck club is such an elite gathering...

The queue grows larger and commotion louder, now that they lost additional hands to do quick shaves and cuts, but luckily it's easy to forget about Far Shore citizens... despite the ruckus and desperation of other workers, Caster can take his sweet time washing, trimming and drying Lancer's hair ]

All set, you'll break a lot of maiden' hearts today.

[How cute is that? The children are milling around, unsure about how to line up straight (haven't their teachers drilled them in it already? Really, Hakkai thinks: they can do better.)

He approaches, calling out in his best teacher's voice from another life.]

Now, children, let's do what she says! Make a line first, and then hold hands.

[Over the heads of the children as they start gathering into a better line, he smiles at the young woman.]

Good evening. Shall we try getting these kids home?

[The best gathering. If only we could have all the other Cus here too.

Lancer chuckled, running his fingers through his nicely trimmed hair. Back to normal. He turned back to look at him when it's all said and done.]

Mmm... I'd rather not do that.

[For some reason, he's not so interested.]

Shall we go then?

[The residents will be fine.]

[futhark]

Sure. [ He pats the owner in the back to tell him he's leaving early, the guy doesn't seem to be happy, but his annoyance disappears the moment Caster walks far away enough to be easily forgotten ]

I'm free now, let's get to it.

U-Turns

[lookingforhead]

[It's not just the children who are glad Elena is here to help. Celty was doing her best to try to get them to calm down and find their way but there was only so much she could do. And it's not like she had the most calming appearance either.

But she was trying her best.

Nodding to Elena she joins the kids in line, helping those further down so they don't feel all on their lonesome further away from the nice blonde lady.]

[He starts to leave the shop, walking behind him closely. Grabbing the two spears he put down in order to enter, he spins the red one in his hand.]

I'll let you set the rules.

[futhark]

[ Are you sure it's a good idea. Because if he's given a full creative control... ]

Lamposts... [ He ponders looking at the lamposts adorning the side of a street in close vicinity. There's a lot of them, they got into different street creating routes of their own. ] First one to touch the ground loses!

[ And he jumps onto the lamp, whipping his staff out of thin air ]

Ah, it doesn't have to be limited to just lamps, mind you. Other elevated things are fine too, as long as they're not roofs.

[It'll be more interesting than most of his battles, so he's fine.

When he looks up to where Caster jumps up to, and follows suit to the opposing lampost.]

And why can't it just be lamposts? I don't need much else.

[Are you trying to give yourself a handicap? Because Lancer only needs the lamposts.]

Because why not

[Celty jerks in surprise, briefly. Shadows are a fairly unique power among those in the Far Shore and for a moment the dullahan thinks Saori like her in that way. It takes her a few seconds to see that it's actual smoke she's controlling rather than wispy smoke-like shadow.

Watching Saori's own powers in action, Celty is impressed and offers Saori a nod of approval. With a few gestures the shadow ball floats gently in their direction until Celty can get both of her hands on it. It's not a particularly subtle way to move the planter, but at least it's contained.]

I was trying to be nice and generous.

[ The lamposts are enough for one person to stand comfortably on - ha ha, if you're someone who can do that of course - but more then three feet at once on it would be probably impossible.

Caster twirls his staff, and changes his stance as if he wielding a lance and jumps off where Diarmuid is, intent on delivering first hit. ]

[Really, Elena has no idea how to manage so many children at once. She'd handled one, two at the most. And with this many in various states of upset and confusion, she can feel the beginning signs of panic and frustration.

That is, until a savior arrived.]

Evening. [See that time? That's a relieved, thanking smile.] As best as we can. I'm Elena by the way. Thanks for joining us.

[Elena was certainly not one to look a gift horse in the mouth when given additional support during a mission. And a mission this was, considering how the children's complaints and whimpers and questions would rise and fall based on whatever was seen, hurt, passed, or tickled their fancy. Its just...there wasn't a mouth to look at.

Giving the other woman - which she had to assumed based on her figure - a little smile, she did her best to point up to her head while her hand remained captured by one of the children.]

Neat helmet. Might be scaring the smaller ones, though. Do you want me to wait and crowd them together so you can take it off?

[Celty looks up at Elena from the two fidgeting kids she has alongside her. One of them at least doesn't seem spooked by her but the other one IS staring at the helmet.

Looking back at the kids a second she thinks it over and then back up to the blonde with a shake of 'no' and a wave of her hand as if to say it's not a good idea.]

I'm Hakkai. It's a pleasure, Elena -- are you their teacher?

[The children are more or less in a straight line; Hakkai turns his attention to them, raising one finger to his mouth in a shushing gesture.]

Ready, children? Please hold hands now!

[cieled]

(Of course. Ciel knows from experience that holy water doesn't do much to powerful demons, but if it's enough for this situation, he isn't going to complain.)

Where did you find it? (She doesn't look like a priest unless - as gods - can they bless the water themselves?)

[cieled]

(He tends to be long-winded unless he is tired or especially aggravated. Her curtsy is noted with a small nod of approval and he crosses his arms over his chest.)

I do not know how one attacks anything with a shirt or a hair tie.

(How ridiculous and yet it is amusing.)

You seem comfortable with the transition and with serving another.

[cieled]

(He empathizes with Emizel's pain. The Ayakashi are truly far too numerous and he wishes there was a -

Ah, there it is.) Say, do you see that hive?

[trademark_skull]

A hive? [Did not even know these sort of bugs even made hives.]

[Sure enough though, Emizel followed where Ciel was looking.] Well, something like that will make this even easier.

[He will prepare his staff. It will still be impossible to get all of the ayakashi, however with a nest gone their numbers should drop drastically.]

[priforprince]

There's some on my temple grounds. [ A...sparkling spring thereof, in fact. ] Are you a god or a shinki?

[ Seeing as you could see the ayakashi, etc. ]

[cieled]

A god. (He would make a pitifully bad shinki, though that might be funny to watch.) I have not encountered my shinki yet. Will I know them when I see them?

[cieled]

(Every bug needs a place to roost. Ciel picks up a rake, not entirely sure what he plans on doing with it. Surely it's best to destroy a hive at a distance?)

Water would serve us best. We should drown them in their nest.

Oh, I was just gonna burn them.

[It's..faster. But water might work too.]

Fire? They might panic and fly to defend. (But if the fire is bright enough, hot enough and big enough, it shouldn't be a problem.) You must attack powerfully.
