Heads Up! Over the Firefly Event Log

As of this tag in the Firefly Event Log, the Blue Sword of Damocles is floating over the area where the vent is.

For those unfamiliar with K, it means there's a giant blue sword glowing in the sky.






I don't know the exact height, but it's tall enough to be seen hovering over a cityscape over a distance. It also visibly glows, so it could still be seen in the night sky. The Sword is a manifestation of a King's power, as well as a reflection of his condition—currently, it's in peak condition with little damage.


In this image, Reisi's is the furthest back and glows dimmest because it's already taken damage at this point in the series.
Use other Swords' glows for reference.

All characters are capable of seeing the sword (because unlike in the series, they're not being routinely brainwashed by the Gold King), and there may be characters who are attuned to its power.

What's it do? Is it just hovering there?

Good question! It basically hovers there like a giant energy receptacle, existing both as a power and as a vulnerability.

If and when there is a clash between the King (or, in this case, the god) and an equal power like that of another King, the Sword will show signs of shielding itself. However, the Sword cannot withstand high-powered direct attacks (like a lightning bolt), and damaging the Sword increases the likelihood of it falling, which may cause destruction equal to that of a nuclear bomb. :c

So the Sword's appearance is kinda ominous.

And you said that some characters might be able to feel its power -- is it demonic? Magical? Alien? Natural magic/youkai/fairy?

Difficult question, but I think the answer is alien power.

The power of Kings happens when a person resonates with an alien rock with a will of its own that bestows powers of evolution; the rock is called the Dresden Slates. And the Sword of Damocles is described as being 'pure energy' that takes on a material form.

However, I also think it might be similar to feeling the heat of a battery charging, like when you've got your laptop or cell phone plugged in. The heat radiating off it gives you the feeling that power is flowing through it. However, the Blue King's element is more water/ice that sometimes causes more of atmospheric chill. (Damaged parts of the Blue Sword turn into snow when they fall off later in the series.)

It definitely would be quite unfortunate. To save everyone, someone would have to kill Reisi before the Sword makes impact. Ooh. XD

Nothing personal, since it'll take out everyone in the vicinity if it falls. However, I'm pleased at the number of people lining up to take Reisi down if it comes to that.

What kind of power 'flavor' does it have? She might be trying to take more direct action if it seems overtly sinister in some way.

The Sword itself simply feels like power and isn't inherently good or bad. Of the seven Kings in K, the Blue King is also known as the King of Order. His philosophy is to uphold and maintain order, justice, and integrity. So suffice it to say that those who manifest this Sword must be in alignment with these qualities because it would damage the Sword otherwise. And as long as the Sword remains undamaged, there's little chance of it falling.

To summarize, direct action is only necessary if a god abuses the Blue King's powers or if Reisi himself becomes unstable enough that he loses control of his power, making him unfit to be the Blue King.

Oh, those aren't so bad then. Celestia will just be hanging out until it goes away, and then asking what the heck that was.

Yeah, pretty much nothing to get worked up about at the moment, though there may be potential for something in the future. (As a note, there is another King in TFS as well, which opens potential for two Swords of Damocles clashing.)
