TEST DRIVE # 17



Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:

1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

To get you started, here are some ideas for thread-starters! Feel free to come up with your own ideas if these don't strike your fancy, though.



Courtly Cadavers

Several dead bodies have very suddenly returned to life. Not only that, but they seem to be possessed by very courteous and polite spirits. So there are reports of half-rotten beings bowing down to young ladies and kissing their hands or holding open doors for other passersby. It's really nice, sure, but also really disturbing.

Dark Deeds

In the middle of the night, there is a spirit that keeps turning off all of the street lamps. Fortunately, there aren't many cars on the roads at this time. Unfortunately, the spirit is also putting out all of the cars' headlights as well. And no cell phone lights or flashlights work during that time either and it's starting to cause a lot of accidents.

Endless Eight

There are eight blocks in downtown Tokyo that have taken to repeating endlessly. As you reach the end of the eight block, you find yourself stepping onto the first block again. No amount of turning or redirecting yourself will allow you to leave the eight blocks - until you stop by a cafe with a couple of bunny girls out front and make a purchase, that is.

Further Forward

Many in Tokyo want nothing more than to be on the cutting edge of technology! And there are some wealthy people who want to be even further ahead than everyone else. That's why they've sent out a general call for new types of technology to be brought to them. And if what you bring is impressive enough, you might get yourself a nice reward~

Giant Goats

Several farms on the outskirts of the city have reported a very sudden and tremendous growth in their goats. That's right, there are two-story tall goats hanging out with the other farm animals. Other than being very large, they seem mostly the same. But since goats will eat anything, well... Let's just say a couple of farmers are going to need new barns soon.

Look, I never said anythin' about not wanting the help!

[He'll thank you in a second; he's just... motioning to where the knife gets tucked away as if it explains everything. That panicked hand is rubbing at the back of his neck now and he kicks at the ground with his toe.]

Thanks man, I owe you, yadda yadda, but maybe a warning before pullin' a knife out next time?

[He's about to go on about how he could've been some crazy bum, but he pauses at the sound of a scraping coming from behind them – looks like someone's grown lonely and decided to follow.]

For real...?

Sure, I'll warn you about pulling out a knife where people can hear it. Genius.

[The whole point of the knife is the element of surprise. That's why he has it. And also, a bow and arrow that he pulls out and nails the undead directly in the forehead.]

Surprise is the name of the game.

[And that's all there is to it.]

[That's about what she expected, so she wheels her bike to the left to cut that one off, the picture of confidence on the back of that metal steed.]

We're fine! Get the other one and drive it towards the fishing pond. If we can scare them into the water that should hold them for a minute!

[Honestly she kind of wants to knock these stupid things out and move on with life but for now they need to be dealt with without that. A way to keep them from bolting like water is fine.]

We'll feed them then, and hopefully the food will help them go to sleep. Or at least stop eating the farm equipment.

[Makoto pays with a pocketful of yen. And it's not long before one of them comes back with a to-go tray laden with tea.]

Okay. Your timer starts now.

[Turning to go with travel tray in one hand and Hibiki in the other, she starts off. hopefully the smell of tea and the lack of sentence enders will stop this mania.]

[ What....what is this? There's a fragrant scent in the air. And the oppressive atmosphere has lifted. Almost like...

Almost like a spell has broken.

Almost like the world is beautiful again. ]

Ngh. [ Hibiki can stand on her own now! And will try to do so, one hand going to her forehead. ]

[nuclearpowered]

[Makoto isn't going to push the point, she just lets go once Hibiki stands up, holding out the tray with the tea cups.]

Drink this, and let's move. We have ten minutes to get clear.

[Of what she's not sure but something about that particular advertisement seemed to cause an extreme negative reaction.]

[ ...Is this cup made of paper?

It cannot be helped. Hibiki takes a sip, her color returning. Her mind, too. When next she speaks, it's like nothing happened. ]

These were from that shop?

[ If so, and her hunch is correct... ]

A friend of mine gave me a ball of twine back home because I kept getting lost. I knew I should have brought it with me today!

[ She follows the woman's gaze to the women in the costumes, and for a moment is rendered silent. She had so many questions about this, it was difficult picking which one to ask first!]

Goodness me, they look rather cold. Do humans dress up like rabbits a lot? Without proper clothes I mean.

I like the ears though. Those are cute.

[She smiles, blissfully unaware that she might be being a tiny bit offensive to the tiny human.]

You are a clever one aren't you? It is elvish for one who is small, and we use it for children, yes.

[She kind of smiles at that. Not like it's...funny, the not-high possibility, but while it doesn't hurt to be cautious (she totally didn't nearly die right before coming here or anything because she let herself get distracted), that kind of worst-case scenario usually has warning signs, and she's glad that someone else also thinks it unlikely. Besides, while there are other gods here, the code and scope of Makai Knights is a bit stricter than the edicts the new gods fall under, and she's glad she doesn't have to face that dilemma even though she'd prepared for it.]

Let's keep going.

[Through the throng, and right smack into a series of Endless Eight streets.]

...We've passed this street before.

[On the bright side, there are less cadavers here. Though now the fish is wiggling a bit in Rekka's line of view, like it's apologizing. She sighs as the fish dissolves, having outlived its usefulness.]

Cunning... [She turns to him fully.] Something should be past here. But we have to get through here first.

That's a relief.

[ She was concerned for their well-being, and as the guy was still mostly a stranger to her, it wasn't as if she could read him properly. Not that she would try reading him in the first place.

Speaking of, there's a bit of concern and pity in her eyes. ]

I'm sure we could find a few who were still able, but you know- Wait. Do you hear them? There's a good amount who are mostly gone, save with their need to be... well, you see what they've been doing. It's like an overarching drive, or the only way they know how to get their goal, whatever that's supposed to be.

My objective isn't to run.

[She doesn't comment on that pause; she understands wariness. They haven't reached the level of danger where keeping powers (or associations, for that matter) a secret would be harmful.]

Anything that can lure them away? [She can conjure a thing that looks like a fish, but as it's tiny and palm-sized, she doubts it would interest the goats. Most of her other spells are attacks...]

Most of the things I can do would spook them, and I don't want to do that.

[freezetheheavens]

[Of course she sees him as a child.

It makes him let out an irritated huff.]

Please refrain from calling me that in the future. My name is Hitsugaya.

[When they enter the Endless Eight streets, Toushirou comes to a stop.

He frowns a bit, expending his senses as if he could sense something odd about it. It makes his eyes narrow.]

As if those zombies weren't bad enough.

[Toushirou gives a short nod to Rekka.]

Wait here.

[With a flash step, he disappears forward, just so that she can see him actually moving forward. However, it doesn't take very long before he reappears back by her side, his expression one of hinted irritation.]

[freezetheheavens]

[Toushirou says nothing at first, studying the frozen bodies.

He can hear them, perhaps not the same way Botan can hear them perhaps, but he can. Toushirou is quiet before he suddenly drops down in front of one of the bodies.

A flick of his sword has the ice melting from around the head, expression unchanging when a bit of skin peeled off from its cheek. He's familiar with the need to be driven by something, so whatever he was planning, who knows how it'd go.]

[Well, it's not like she was going to ask for their fine china, Hibiki. Please take what you can get.]

That's correct. You had the same hunch I did, didn't you?

[That the cafe was the source.]

[One after another, this guy is full of weird (and maybe a little unpleasant) surprises. First the knife and then the bow, and Ryuji barely manages to say anything before the zombie coming for him drops dead (???) to the ground.]

Did ya get 'im?

[He's just gonna... kick it with his foot to make sure before he asks anymore questions.]

Feed 'em what!?

[There isn't a lot of time for him to listen to any sort of protest that might come from Makoto because he's already running after the other goat as per her suggestion. The one that's running in the opposite direction from the very fishing pond she speaks of.

Why's his life gotta be so damn rough all the time?

He uses Captain Kidd to zap at the goat, trying to scare it off into running the other way. It's... kind of working? He manages to get it turned around, and he whistles as loud as he can at it to grab its attention. It stares at him - he must look to be the size of a bug compared to this thing - before it digs its hind feet into the dirt and charges at him.

Yeah, best idea he's had all day, right?]

You gotta be effin' kiddin' me.

[He takes off, using his new powers to get some momentum and put some distance between him and the angry beast but the quick movements come in short spurts. He can see Makoto up ahead, and he calls out to her.]

Maaaa! Kooooo! Toooo!

[SCREW CODE NAMES, HE'S GOT A CODE BILLY ON HIS HANDS.]

[Well, yeah. He's got something that could lure them but he's definitely not ready to show it to her just yet. With a deep breath, he looks to her with an expression that's far more serious than it has been.]

I can try lurin' them away.

[And this is how bad ideas are made.]

What the hell.

[nuclearpowered]

[Zipping along, bike engine roaring, she whirls her head around at the sound of his voice. And immediately gives a start because holy shit. Johanna whips to one side at a sharp 90 degree angle and she holds out her hand.]

Duck, Skull!

[And then it comes. A blast of nuclear fire, radiation rippling through the Persona, through her arm, and right into Billy's face. The goat bucks in fright, rearing up as something burns his snout.]

Run! Get around me! I'll keep him occupied, but we may need to consider what to do if we can't slow them!

[She'd prefer not to kill them, but what...can they do...?]

You know...

[ She starts flying down to stay within conversation distance of Toushirou. Still in the air, but not too far away. ]

I'm starting to notice that you have this habit of staring off and doing things instead of communicating. You're lucky I have some respect towards a person's mental privacy.

[ Except she can also be very curious and nosy. Which is why she's not beyond talking and prodding for information. ]

[ Stamina and poor health. The air in the Near Shore is rough on him though. Even more so after having encountered the perfect air in the Far Shore. ]

Hmm? No, it wasn’t. Outages happens sometimes, though.

[ Sometimes people are really good at jumping and climbing. Obi is. ]

Don’t worry about that~

[ He stands up, peering further out into the distance. ]

As far as I can see, at least. But I don’t know, the sort of things they have here are beyond me.

[yasei]

[ The flies are just a minor details. Just means he might need a necktie to add to the look. ]

To better woo the ladies or other gentlemen? Seems like a good move. Who can say no to flowers.

[ Obi sure can’t. But he does a lot of carrying of flowers while he works with Mistress and Little Ryuu, so it’s a bit different. ]

[ Hibiki sniffs. Hunch. On second though, deliberating the term, she has inspiration, not hunches. ] They weren't being especially subtle.

[ She's taking her sweet time headed for the end of this block, but she also doesn't seem to have any doubts about what will happen when they reach it. ]
