TEST DRIVE # 17



Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:

1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

To get you started, here are some ideas for thread-starters! Feel free to come up with your own ideas if these don't strike your fancy, though.



Courtly Cadavers

Several dead bodies have very suddenly returned to life. Not only that, but they seem to be possessed by very courteous and polite spirits. So there are reports of half-rotten beings bowing down to young ladies and kissing their hands or holding open doors for other passersby. It's really nice, sure, but also really disturbing.

Dark Deeds

In the middle of the night, there is a spirit that keeps turning off all of the street lamps. Fortunately, there aren't many cars on the roads at this time. Unfortunately, the spirit is also putting out all of the cars' headlights as well. And no cell phone lights or flashlights work during that time either and it's starting to cause a lot of accidents.

Endless Eight

There are eight blocks in downtown Tokyo that have taken to repeating endlessly. As you reach the end of the eight block, you find yourself stepping onto the first block again. No amount of turning or redirecting yourself will allow you to leave the eight blocks - until you stop by a cafe with a couple of bunny girls out front and make a purchase, that is.

Further Forward

Many in Tokyo want nothing more than to be on the cutting edge of technology! And there are some wealthy people who want to be even further ahead than everyone else. That's why they've sent out a general call for new types of technology to be brought to them. And if what you bring is impressive enough, you might get yourself a nice reward~

Giant Goats

Several farms on the outskirts of the city have reported a very sudden and tremendous growth in their goats. That's right, there are two-story tall goats hanging out with the other farm animals. Other than being very large, they seem mostly the same. But since goats will eat anything, well... Let's just say a couple of farmers are going to need new barns soon.

[In fairness, Mabel probably could have gotten away with running up and giving them a hug even with Makoto right there. It wasn't like hugging a goat was wrong. It was just strange, and not something the reserved teenager would do.

Still, Mabel probably shouldn't, at least not until the animals were safely distracted. It wouldn't do to have the girl made into a snack.

Smiling good-naturedly despite herself, she nods]

He might. Goats eat just about anything. Do you know of one around here?

[ He'll squirm if he wants. But he didn't name his hand!! How weird must this guy think he is now... ]

It's not that I call it that... [ Ahahaha—ha.

His nose scrunches a little at that. Stung pride? ]

[ But though he exhales a little wearily for a moment, resigning himself perhaps... he smiles a little then, pale grey eyes flicking back up to Shion. What a curious spirit... did he just—was this his first time in this world? Even if Allen can be a little weird among gods, most Far Shore residents don't really raise an eyebrow until he turns his arm into a sword.

But he means well, so Allen will gently pull his hand free—but only so he might pop the clasp on his glove. It's easier to show than to explain—and he's had to explain it enough times in his life that he holds his hand in front of him, the back of it to Shion so that he might see the crystalline, golden cross smoothly embedded in the red skin there. It's.. actually vaguely demonic in appearance, with the plated appearance and long black nails.

And it's a very practiced gesture, as is the way that Allen speaks then. ]

Innocence is a weapon. One that chooses its hosts [ like a parasite, let's just slide past that ] and lets us— [ fight akuma. fight ayakashi—in a limited way. But Allen... hesitates briefly. Finding that, for the first time ever perhaps..

...not that accurate. In the.. year? he's been away from them. ]

...save souls. By cutting away the corruption around them.

It's what makes me an Exorcist.

[priforprince]

[ A pure-hearted mademoiselle, it seems. ] Have no fear!

[ The mysterious masked figure swings themselves around the horn to land atop the goat's back, forms the free side of their rope into a lasso, and affixes it to the goat's other horn. ] Hah!

[ There. Now this goat has reins. Holding fast, the figure pulls back to try and steer the goat away from its feast.

Said goat rears, surprised. When its eyes are taken away from its impromptu meal, it sees a giant, golden pile of straw, just...floating in the air where there hadn't been one before. It wiggles its back end, preparing to jump. ]

[priforprince]

[ Swallowing a bug might have been more pleasant, truthfully. Hibiki shakes her head, touching her forehead lightly. ] ...We should keep moving.

[ "And now, for a limited time only, it's our two-for-bun sale! There's no time like the present, bun-bun! It's timely, bun-bun!"

Hibiki grabs her ears with both hands. ]

[It comes with realizing how people you've once thought you can trust turns out to be your biggest enemies. Toushirou might still have the scars that came from that last battle with Aizen. Not to mention there were Qunicies causing some mayhem, too.

He's a pessimistic by nature. Get used to it.

Toushirou huffs softly.]

Of course not. We can simply shatter the ice so that not even the bodies are left.

[Zombies. Toushirou really doesn't do zombies.]

[freezetheheavens]

Not high.

[At least he'll admit it.

He sighs.]

Freezing them also wouldn't be much of a solution at this rate.

[Makoto stops and shakes her head, looking first at Hibiki and then at the shop.]

Is it something she's saying, miss?

[That is logically the only thing that it could be, given that seems to trigger these outbursts.]

S....

[ Rabbits. Hopping. Thumping their hind legs. In her head. Pain. ]

Sentence enders.....

[ "It's a bunderful sale right now! Step on up, because there's no better time, bun-bun!"

Hibiki feels faint. Positive where she needs to go, but faint.

The world is endlessly cruel. ]

Sentence...enders?

[Her head snaps up at the sound of the chatter and she puts a strong arm around Hibiki's shoulders. Placing herself solidly between the younger girl and the shop, she scowls.]

You mean those obnoxious attempts at wordplay?

[priforprince]

[ Risking removing a hand, Hibiki points, fingers trembling, at the shopgirls. ] Cleared....the event. The key...

[ "We've even lopped all the prices in half, bun-bun!"

Knees giving out, Hibiki swoons against Makoto's side. ]

what the hell is even going on in that icon

[Makoto's eyes burn with red flame, twin coals ready to incinerate the offenders. Not because sentence enders bother her, but because that is just bad]

Fine.

[She holds onto Hibiki, easily lifting her up and carrying her with as much grace as she can. She looks graceful. Hibiki probably looks like a potato sack. But this is being dealt with.]

Ladies, can you please stop? Your advertisements seem to be upsetting this young lady.

[Try politely first. Then the claws come out.]

[Little does he know that she's in the same boat, but she nods anyway. It's a hard thing to deny when you're a shinki and you literally change shape for your god.]

Something supernatural like... one of those ayakashi they have told us about? I have never seen one.

[She actually smirks a little at that, for how serious the situation is. She made a joke at her own expense.]

Perhaps one of the girls is responsible?

her anti-gobi riot shield broke and she flew against the wall and ando is maaaa-ourning her

[ "Hm?"

The girls look at each other.

"Isn't it cute, bun-bun?" ]

Hrgh!

[ Hibiki jerks in Makoto's hold, though she does not appear to have regained consciousness. Her heart...! ]

[Anger wells up inside, and it takes everything she has not to break a table with her fist.]

What would it take to make you stop that?

[Seriously. This is starting to make her feel sick too.]

[ Both girls hop like, well, rabbits in surprise at that.

"Well..." one says. "There's no better time to make a purchase...b-bu---"

Hibiki's breathing is coming more shallowly now. ]

I dunno, I got my per—

[Whoa, hold up. He isn't sure how much he can divulge to this girl about his persona or about him being a Phantom Thief. It hasn't exactly come up much around here except with other fellow thieves that he doesn't wanna get his ass in trouble should it come around to bite him in it later.

Besides, Makoto is scary when she's mad.]

My personal god powers. [Yep, totally nailed that one.] I can run real fast, but I dunno how good that's gonna be against these guys.

[forreal]

[It takes him a second to respond again, far too enthralled by the sight of the giant goats chasing the masked girl on a motorbike to react when she calls out to him, but he shakes himself out of his trance and bolts after her.

And it's with such an immense speed that he's nothing but a blur of black, red, and yellow before he reappears just behind them seconds later, gasping for air. He's still a bit rusty on the running, not to mention it's a million times faster here but mastering that skill will come... with time.

His persona reappears and this time, Captain Kidd lands a hit right on one of the goat's tail and its giant hoofed hind feet kick back into the air, sending up bits of dirt and dust along with it and blindsiding him with what might as well be a giant dust storm.]

Shit.

Skull stop screwing around!

[She barks that out, trying to catch his attention, getting angrier and angrier by the second as she blitzes forward with goats on her ass.

The monster animals bleat in a fury, charging ahead with their horns lowered but Makoto's faster.]

See if you can outpace them, maybe peel them apart! Get one to follow you!

[nuclearpowered]

Fine!

[Makoto snaps that out, looking worriedly at Hibiki's prone form.]

I'll take two cups of tea in to go cups, and pay you double to stop advertising for...ten minutes.

[genkireaper]

We could, but there's still the issue of-

[ The bodies were alarming, but if not even those were left, was the god planning...? Because otherwise they'd be back to square one, with a bunch of loosed spirits again. ]

No, it'd be ridiculous to think that you meant to destroy all the spirits as well. I'm sure I'm misunderstanding.

[priforprince]

[ "Uh, right." Neither girl seems to understand, but they're also clearly intimidated. "Um....here's what your total tail- er, tallies up to..."

Hibiki remains flopped over, but she no longer completely looks like she's on her last legs. ]

[freezetheheavens]

The spirits will be fine.

[His ice doesn't hurt anything that's intangible, after all. Not unless he really wished for it.]

It'd be better if we can convince them all to return to where they belong.

[deniles]

[He just saved you from being an undead bride and this is the thanks he gets. No wedding present for you, pal.]

Oh, my apologies, I thought you wanted help. I guess I'll just leave you for the undead.

[He slips the knife away to where there are a large number more hidden. More than Ryuji may want to see on any given day.]

I'll be sure to attend your wedding slash funeral.

[forreal]

I ain't screwin' around! The buggers are faster than they look and it ain't just 'cause they got longer legs than your normal, everyday goat.

[He barks back in protest but leaves little room for a rebuttal and he chases them at a normal speed this time, his mask disappearing again.]

Cut 'em off!

[There's another boom of lightning that comes down between the goats to separate them, and one skids to a halt with its feet slamming into the dirt before it takes off in the other direction. And it's running and running... and not stopping.]

I dunno if we thought this through.
