TEST DRIVE # 15



Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:

1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

To get you started, here are some ideas for thread-starters! Feel free to come up with your own ideas if these don't strike your fancy, though.



Sneaky Snakes

There are a number of snakes that have become possessed by a bunch of very sneaky ayakashi. They are slithering around, silently, snaring unsuspecting passersby into their trap - their trap to steal money. That's right, these snakes are busy snatching bills and coins from whoever they can. Try to put a stop to their thieving ways, or perhaps get thieved by them yourself.

Tummy Troubles

Many of the customers of a certain restaurant are complaining of the fact that their stomachs hurt after eating there. It could just be food poisoning, but many of these people are winding up in critical condition after a couple of days. It's time to figure out what the heck this cook is actually putting in the food.

Underwhelming Underwear

A family run business has been selling underwear for generations, but the underwear they sell is super boring and bland. Nobody wants to buy from them when cooler underwear is just around the corner. They've asked you to help them bring customers back in - by making their boring underwear seem as cool and hip as possible! How you do that is up to you.

Vividly Violet

There are so many ayakashi making their way through the air that at sunset the sky is turning an absolutely gorgeous shade of purple. Near Shore residents are reacting to this in varying ways. Many are delighted by the beautiful sky, but just as many are terrified that it's a sign of the end of times. Try to take down some ayakashi to make the sky less purple. Or just sit back and watch the beauty.

Wonder Wall

Anyways, there's this college boy who won't stop playing his acoustic guitar. He's from the US and is trying to pick up Japanese chicks. By now he should've somehow realized that they're totally not interested in him. But the song just keeps getting louder and louder and all that the people near the campus can hope is that today is gonna be the day that he stops playing. Maybe you're gonna be the one that saves them.

[Oh no, now she has to try and calm him down. She remembers his anger and how he can be when things aren't quite going his way.

Corrin turns to him as she shakes her head with a reassuring smile.]

Oh no! No! I was trying to get him to sing a different song! Maybe if he did then he could leave to go practice it. [She hears grumbles from the guy behind her when she's trying to save him or at least keep things calm.]

[ Kanade shakes her head, liberally applying both sources of spice. ] Still kinda new. Sheesh, though, you'd think people would give a girl some elbow roo--

[ And then. Her elbow freezes. Lifted in midair. As she holds her utensils. ]

[ Wait, they're smart enough for an ambush?! Not fair. ]

Basta---

[ Kanade whirls around, taking her cues from Shun's "driving". The first ayakashi in the assault falls to her rage at the attempted trap, but the second gets in a hit.

Kanade yells as she's struck across the face. That just makes her madder. Bastards. Bastards, bastards.

Do they think she's the only one who's gonna get hurt?! ]

[ Kanade shrugs. ] Did at one point.

[ Aw, crap, that's a downer. That's talking about the Dead Thing, and there's no real point in talking about the Dead Thing, is there? Nothing she can do about it. No point in even wondering if she made something of her life.

She's got this "life" now. That'll have to be enough. ] All righty! Let's find you somethin' that can take the worst you throw at it....

[ Flick flick flick. She tosses stuff over her shoulder as she considers it a potential. She isn't really thinking about where it might land. ]

[ The humans really should have handled the idiot on their own.

Instead, the Heavens have dispatched their own version of 'assistance' even though the pair that shows up doesn't arrive together. Mostly because Yata's running late, so he bursts onto the scene in a shower of fiery sparks from the wheels of his skateboard as he skids to a stop not far away.

He doesn't look any happier about being here either. ]

Oi! [ A finger is jabbed at the human, the objection issued in an irritated tone. ] Shut up already! You're a menace!

[ Of course, the human pays no attention to him, either unable to see him at all or maybe he's just... really immersed in his terrible music, who knows? ]

[What an idiot. Why did the Heavens send him along, too?]

If he cared about being a menace, he would have stopped when that redhead threatened to call the police.

[Fushimi flips out a knife and starts tossing it. One way to handle it, he supposes.]

He's probably tone deaf, which makes me why anyone'd give him a guitar in the first place. Or let him into the country.

[Yuffie whines loudly and clamps her hands over her ears. This guy is terrible. If she has to hear this crappy song for another five minutes she's going to stick him through herself.

She huffs at Riku.] Or better yet, change me into my vessel and stab the guy!!

[That's fine, right? She'll totally enable her god into abusing power. DO IT. DO IT.]

Kairi unplugged her own ears as Alice was musing to herself and noticed her say Cupid. "Oh, you must be from the Far Shore too then - are you hear answering a prayer for him?" She wandered over and smiled at the other girl. "Because I don't think there's a Cupid around, but I do know an Eros. He's nice enough he might help you out." She said with a rudimentary understanding of the Greek words of love to know what kind of love Eros stood for, but she'd met him as "Rin" first so she didn't associate such awkwardly lurid things with him.

[A strange and gorgeously violet sky? There's no way Owain is passing up this chance. He's not sure what draws him to such things but here he is, standing out in the open, making a show of it not far from where Corrin is trying to wait this out. He even poses with his sword on his hip, ready to be drawn.]

I feel the power rushing through me. These omens shall not pass unattended. As a chosen of the dead, a weapon to the gods, I know this is where I must make my stand.

[Hand flashes in front of his face, peeking at the setting sun through his fingers.]

Hear me, those whose future alters the sky itself! I, Owain, will stand vigilant and watch you fade into the darkest of nights. I will not falter. I will be a sentinel to the dusk. For even death could not bring an end to my watch.

[Which is all well and good, but some things in the sky are beginning to take notice to the swordsman standing there and hes about to bring trouble down very near her location.]

As long as we don't bother them, we can just wander in and not even get noticed. Much easier for investigating.

[ well, the shopkeeper is right: their underwear are terribly boring. mari had assured the owner not to worry--she was, after all, a businesswoman!--and if mari could handle anything, it was selling products. even ones someone might not like!

so, there is a blonde girl standing outside of the underwear shop, wearing a happi coat and holding a plastic megaphone,calling out-- ] Come one, come all!~ Buy a pair of our cute, shiny underwear, get a pair free!

[ however, when even that isn't working, mari takes to more drastic measures. spotting a stranger on the street, she hurries up with this gleam in her eye, and reaches out to grab their wrist. she's cheerful, bright.

she will not let you go. ] Yoohoo~! Hey! Come here, come here? You're beautiful. Have you ever wanted to be a storefront model?

[ Surprised more by the touch than by the girl's words, at first, Hibiki blinks. Then, smiling, she lifts the wrist Mari's holding to clasp her own fingers gently over the other girl's, patting them. ]

How flattering. Unfortunately, I've already accumulated considerable modeling experience....if you'd hoped to scout an amateur, your eyes were just a little too good.

[ And she smiles.

It's pretty much the most elegant, handsome smile on the planet. ]

Alice jumped when she heard someone talk behind her and nearly panicked it might have been one of the staff. When she saw the shinki she let out a soft sigh of relief and smiled up at the incredibly tall blonde.

"Well, we have to figure out what's making these people sick. And to do that, we need to get into that kitchen." She looked around and then lightly pulled on Takuma's sleeve, pointing to the fire alarm. "And if we wish to do it without interruption, that's going to be the way to do it," she whispered, knowing that... well... it might scare people but hopefully it would give them plenty of time to investigate the kitchen and figure out what was making people sick.

[ how charming! mari blinks at her, her infallible smile not budging an inch when she gets smiled at. she still hasn't quite let go, either, curling her fingers gently under hibiki. ]

Wo~w! [ she cooes, the inflection of a native english speaker in the way she speaks, batting her eyelashes. ] With a look like that, I'm not surprised I wasn't the first! You've got a twinkle around you. ♥

[ but she's still not letting this go, and her smile falters a little, if only to look over her shoulder at the shop. ] Someone of your expertise could definitely help this poor, poor family. They're really struggling!

Out of consideration for the young miss, however, she'll start sprinkling her Japanese with otherwise unnecessary English. ] I'm afraid prior commitments call me away...

[ Will this lovely young miss permit her to bring their hands to her lips? ] Our meeting was destined to be fleeting. But I won't forget you, my fair lady.

[ Perhaps she can get her wrist free if she kisses the back of the girl's hand. ]

mari cooes and giggles appropriately when her hand gets kissed--goodness, this girl is so charming!--but is also 100% not giving this up. you will have to pry yourself away from her cold, dead hands. that's american business techniques for you. ]

And I won't forget you either! How could I! [ her smile brightens. ] I know for sure I'd never forget anyone who would help me recruit--especially someone as charming and sweet as yourself, no? It wouldn't take long for someone of your talents...~

[Ah, but the fact that the snake is one someone's butt doesn't even occur to him as he grabs for it. Oops.]

[Odin stands staring up at the sky. His hand is outstretched before him, holding a stiff-looking pose as he studies the monsters visible to his eyes even from here.]

Ahhhh, the darkness... It calls to me! I must heed its cry!

[And yet he still stands there, staring. Okay.]

Wonder Wall

[Rather than actually trying to end the song, Odin is confronting the boy directly.]

No, no. You don't understand. The prophecies falling from your tongue are half-hearted, lackluster! You must put your whole being into them!

[At least the guy has stopped playing his songs, but he looks like he's getting a little uncomfortable with how close Odin is getting and how passionately he's gesturing.]

Snakes on another plane

[Youji might have recovered from the indignity of tripping over a vine and landing flat on his nose. It's being eye to eye with a literal nest of vipers that's assaulting his calm. He breathes out, slowly, and pushes himself up on his elbows, eyeing the reptiles warily.] I know Asclepius. You didn't borrow these from him, did you?

[Kairi is close to understanding, and yet so far. Even so, Celty nods emphatically at Kairi considering she's close enough to the point and steps aside to let her into the conversation.

The man, for his part, keeps going on about his underwear sales and asking for help.]

He nodded slowly. "I see... I don't mind doing it! But I think we should also start a ghost-like fire so that people would really get scared and they won't think it was just a malfunction. So maybe I could start the poltergeist activity and you can pull the alarm? That's the least dangerous job."

Sneaky Snakes and Sibilance

[Those sneaky, sinful snakes truly know no fear. They're secretly slithering along the sidewalk, under the bench you're sitting on, hidden in the bushes nearby, somehow skating off with your hard earned silver in this mouths (your salary may be less than superb, still it's simply scandalous to steal). One snatches your satchel from your sidetracked self and begins to make it's escape when a pretty, pointy parasol suddenly pierces it from above.]

What is the meaning of this? [Pretty much ignoring you, this young woman is busy glaring down at the ayakashi with a terrifying glare.] You snuck right past me and went for this delirious fool!

[Wow, Maribelle. Just because your character was daydreaming or possibly just minding their own business like a normal person. Anyway, at least she's trying to help and her priorities are in the right place-] Why didn't you try to steal from me? Do I look poor to you? Do I?!

Terrible Tummy Troubles

[It's a fine dining establishment- or so the blurb on the website says. Ignoring the photos of beautiful rooms and tablecloths, delicious meals and expensive wines, one might notice the Yelp reviews instead. Yikes. Maribelle might have visited the restaurant as a (very distinguished, of course) customer and guest, but now she's here to investigate.

Investigating apparently means storming in with her head held high and demanding to see a manager.]

Excuse me! You there, do come here and answer me! Who is responsible for the running of this establishment? I insist her or she come forward this instant before I am forced to become extremely irate- you! [The terrified wait staff are quick to rush their manager forward to meet this little girl with ribbons in her hair.] I demand to see your kitchens this instant!

[Maribelle doesn't wait to be lead anywhere, instead heading further inside the restaurant herself, making a clear line towards the kitchen door. When she gets there she glares at the manager until he panics and opens the door. Maribelle continues to storm in, looking around judgmentally and continuing to rant.]

What sort of horrific den of disease and infestation are you maintaining in this operation? Despicable! I've seen barns in better condition- and somehow with even fewer live animals! Really, never have I seen such a disgusting state of affairs!

[Okay, there's been some incidents but it's probably not that bad. Good thing you came along as back up, though who for I can't say.]
