TEST DRIVE # 15



Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:

1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

To get you started, here are some ideas for thread-starters! Feel free to come up with your own ideas if these don't strike your fancy, though.



Sneaky Snakes

There are a number of snakes that have become possessed by a bunch of very sneaky ayakashi. They are slithering around, silently, snaring unsuspecting passersby into their trap - their trap to steal money. That's right, these snakes are busy snatching bills and coins from whoever they can. Try to put a stop to their thieving ways, or perhaps get thieved by them yourself.

Tummy Troubles

Many of the customers of a certain restaurant are complaining of the fact that their stomachs hurt after eating there. It could just be food poisoning, but many of these people are winding up in critical condition after a couple of days. It's time to figure out what the heck this cook is actually putting in the food.

Underwhelming Underwear

A family run business has been selling underwear for generations, but the underwear they sell is super boring and bland. Nobody wants to buy from them when cooler underwear is just around the corner. They've asked you to help them bring customers back in - by making their boring underwear seem as cool and hip as possible! How you do that is up to you.

Vividly Violet

There are so many ayakashi making their way through the air that at sunset the sky is turning an absolutely gorgeous shade of purple. Near Shore residents are reacting to this in varying ways. Many are delighted by the beautiful sky, but just as many are terrified that it's a sign of the end of times. Try to take down some ayakashi to make the sky less purple. Or just sit back and watch the beauty.

Wonder Wall

Anyways, there's this college boy who won't stop playing his acoustic guitar. He's from the US and is trying to pick up Japanese chicks. By now he should've somehow realized that they're totally not interested in him. But the song just keeps getting louder and louder and all that the people near the campus can hope is that today is gonna be the day that he stops playing. Maybe you're gonna be the one that saves them.

[He offers a light little chuckle. Being a shinki does, after all, offer a certain advantage: the man is very unlikely to see him coming until he grabs the guitar.

And -- good lord, he's stopped and is starting from the beginning again. It's not even that good a song!

Hakkai heads directly for him, ready to snatch the guitar and run.]

We must find a place to meet them on the ground.

[The Valkyrie can fly, of course, but not battle effectively in midair -- and of course, very few others can even do that much.]

[She liked this guy already. Straight forward and to the point. She follows after him, keeping an eye for anyone noticing them committing guitar theft.

or just that the annoying song has stopped.]

That, I can do. [She begins walking forward, trying to look nonchalant while looking for where they could put up a fight against the ayakashi... and avoid any human casualties.]

[Hakkai fully intends to treat the guitar well until turning it in to a lost-and-found somewhere... oh, at least a block away, to increase the length of time that blissful silence will reign before its owner finds it again. He tosses the woman a nod as he reaches the would-be musician's side, leans down, and plucks the instrument out of his hands.

The man bolts to his feet.

"Hey, man, not cool! Give it back!"

Hakkai is already sprinting. It's up to Ziva to make sure the guitarist stays occupied long enough for Hakkai to lose him.]

[he's here to help! hopefully.]

Need some help making one?

[…I mean, sure, there's a small problem here, but.]

Sir, are you ok? [She stops in front of the man who had the guitar, now surprised that it was gone. She stopped between him and the way Hakkai ran, so he had to get past her to continue after him. Listening as he explained, she nodded.]

I'm sorry that happened, maybe he'll turn up again. [And hopefully he didn't destroy said guitar.] And I'll keep my eye out for him in case I cross paths with him.

[She looks at the new arrival, nodding once.]

I would not mind the help. That guitar needs to be separated from its owner.

[Perfect. Hakkai easily extends his lead as Ziva chats up the guitarist behind him.

Meanwhile, the man stares at her, aggrieved expression slowly melting to simple confusion.

"Wait, who?"

He'd definitely been talking about... some guy, right? And his guitar was gone, so some jerkwad stole it. Must've been while he was away. He doesn't remember.

He eyes Ziva up and down. He'll get his guitar back sometime anyway. Right now there's a hot older chick right here who seems all worried about him and the thief.

"-- Yeah, I'll catch the dude and kick his ass," he announces grandly, leaning into her personal space juuuust a little. "Hey, when I get my guitar back I'll play you something you like. Whatcha think of Oasis?"]

[How pleasant to see another resident of the heavens actually making an effort to pursue their duties. The Valkyrie follows closely behind, her gaze fixed on the sky and the ayakashi therein.]

You do that. [She said with a smile, suppressing the reaction to step back. She wasn't a fan of people being that close to her. But, she was playing the distraction for the guy with the guitar, so well...]

Neutral. Granted, I am a bit over Wonderwall due to a... friend playing it too much. [She's lying.] But they had some other decent songs.

[It fits for her. Threaten people, and she'll go after them. Glancing at the sky, she pauses, trying to find a way to reach them.]

I am... new to this. Do you have any ideas?

[Hakkai swings by a school information desk, presents them with the guitar, bows several times apologizing for the inconvenience, claims he found it abandoned on a bench outside, and leaves. No doubt they'll have forgotten his story before too long, but it'll be there whenever the would-be musician thinks to check. He swings back towards the square to rescue his co-conspirator.

Meanwhile the musician himself is pouting at Ziva.

"Aw man, Wonderwall is their best song! It's a classic."]

A tall building may likely suffice. Do you possess a bow?

[This is the sort of ranged weapon she is familiar with, of course.]

Then it's settled! [he claps his hands together.] You'll take care of the guitar, then, and I'll take care of the distraction?

[ That's 100% of what she's trying to do here. It makes her happy when she can bully other people, pretty much, so it's what she does. ]

Good, then you remembered. Keeping your wits about you at an advanced age is a commendable trait.

[ It’s not that easy to bully outlaws. And if she chose one of the worse to bully, she’d be in a lot of trouble. ]

A man who herds cattle, many long hours on horseback, for them big folks who owns a lot a’ spread an’ animal. Mostly drifters who take jobs where they can get ‘em, less they’re permanently hired by a rancher.

His shoulders slump slightly, but he glares sidelong. Hakkai, if nothing else, could be relied on to be a certain way. It’s frustratingly, aggravatingly... reassuring, actually, despite the bullshit bad news. ] I don’t care what you call it, but I’ve heard enough of that “shinki and gods” crap.

[ His complaining is reflexive, but he’s starting to think seriously now. He can’t just outright deny inconvenient information for all that he wants to. ]
