TEST DRIVE # 15



Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:

1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

To get you started, here are some ideas for thread-starters! Feel free to come up with your own ideas if these don't strike your fancy, though.



Sneaky Snakes

There are a number of snakes that have become possessed by a bunch of very sneaky ayakashi. They are slithering around, silently, snaring unsuspecting passersby into their trap - their trap to steal money. That's right, these snakes are busy snatching bills and coins from whoever they can. Try to put a stop to their thieving ways, or perhaps get thieved by them yourself.

Tummy Troubles

Many of the customers of a certain restaurant are complaining of the fact that their stomachs hurt after eating there. It could just be food poisoning, but many of these people are winding up in critical condition after a couple of days. It's time to figure out what the heck this cook is actually putting in the food.

Underwhelming Underwear

A family run business has been selling underwear for generations, but the underwear they sell is super boring and bland. Nobody wants to buy from them when cooler underwear is just around the corner. They've asked you to help them bring customers back in - by making their boring underwear seem as cool and hip as possible! How you do that is up to you.

Vividly Violet

There are so many ayakashi making their way through the air that at sunset the sky is turning an absolutely gorgeous shade of purple. Near Shore residents are reacting to this in varying ways. Many are delighted by the beautiful sky, but just as many are terrified that it's a sign of the end of times. Try to take down some ayakashi to make the sky less purple. Or just sit back and watch the beauty.

Wonder Wall

Anyways, there's this college boy who won't stop playing his acoustic guitar. He's from the US and is trying to pick up Japanese chicks. By now he should've somehow realized that they're totally not interested in him. But the song just keeps getting louder and louder and all that the people near the campus can hope is that today is gonna be the day that he stops playing. Maybe you're gonna be the one that saves them.

[Because the rest of those were a little extreme and he is too nice to just shoot those down so bluntly.]

So we can do what you said earlier and compare them side-by-side. We can get a mannequin to display them, too.

[ Tsuna's just happy to contribute something to their demonstration. A mannequin will be a good way to show differences. They should probably have two to allow people to have an accurate comparison.]

I'm sure they have some mannequins they aren't using in their storage room.

[Though Tsuna is curious of how they are going to perform the demonstration.]

So how are we going to do the testing? Maybe we can stretch a pair between the both of us, and see how far it stretches before losing it's shape?

[Makoto nods at the idea. It seems like they'll be able to help this store out! That is always a good thing.]

Yeah! First we can show how they were made by showing the stitching and stuff? [He didn't really know a lot about that, but that was important to some people.]

Then we can let people feel the fabric. Then we can do the stretch test and then....maybe rub some rougher fabric against it? Like jeans.

[ Kanade balls up, clutching her stomach, as a seat cushion is placed underneath her head (and her hair, and her hair, and her hair.) This might not have been the best decision she's ever had.

What's worse, though, is that she got somebody else mixed up in it. So she flashes Corrin as cocky a smile as she can manage. ]

...My bad.

You can't have my commission. [ Given that it's - nothing. She's doing this gratis. Because she's bored.

But she's grinning for Maria like she just made a really good joke instead of a really pathetic one. ]

[ Vwoom. Kanade almost feels in moments like this like the world should be freezing around her, or something, for effect, but she also figures that's just her being weird. Most of her brain is taken up with the grim satisfaction of having gotten the job done.

Or, well, as done as it's probably going to be. She's flagging in the sky, even as she looks up to count the remainder. ] I can still...

[ She staggers in midair and hurries to right herself. She can do this. Can't she? Just one more push...

If they just give it one more push...

She's gonna lose this argument, isn't she. ]

"Do they not realize how rotten it all is? How could someone not notice rotten food! We are going to help them. We'll throw all this out. Burn it, if you must," she nearly gagged again as she held her nose. "And we'll make sure to come back and have them get clean fresh food. You don't think magic is preventing them from not seeing or smelling the decay, do you?"

[She's definitely losing this argument. As soon as Shun feels Kanade falter like that in mid-air, he shifts his weight forward and to the side, aiming to lead them down and back towards a rooftop they can land on. It's a firmer motion than his other, guiding ones from earlier in the fight, the kind of movement that says he's not taking no for an answer on this one.]

Nobody's expecting you to die for the sake of clearing out the last few of these. Don't waste your afterlife on something like that. [His tone is blunt, because this in particular is a point he's really not interested in trying to be delicate about. If it were some kind of high-stakes, life-or-death situation, he might understand it more, even if he'd also probably be the one laying his life down first. But this is a case where they can afford to say they're not the only god and shinki in the Heavens, and with a plague of ayakashi that had been this obvious, Shun's confident in assuming they won't be the only ones to take things into their own hands.]

We might have a responsibility to protect lives, but that includes mine to protect yours.

I wouldn't dream of it. [To Maria, this looks more like a prayer than her actual job, which means she wouldn't be getting paid for it in theory. Nonetheless, she smiles slightly along with the joke as she turns a little in front of the mirror again.

Then, after a moment or two, she makes two little jumps as well, to test how good the support is. The bra does its job, keeping the movement of her chest to a minimum.]

For all the dull design, these seem to be good quality.

[ Bless her saintly patience she doesn’t deserve a raging dipshit like him for a butler. Granted, as furious as he is with her, it’s nothing compared to what he feels toward this annoying mortal and the noise he’s making. It’s getting increasingly difficult to talk above the din here. ]

Many would prefer if he never play again. You can hear well enough for yourself that he has no talent in music whatsoever!

[ Kanade tenses up her muscles against that guidance, but it's more a surly registration of her own reluctance than an outright refusal. They relax soon enough, and she lets herself be led away from the fight. This isn't right. It's smart, but it isn't - it isn't right. She doesn't want to leave anything to other people that she could do herself. Or is he saying that she couldn't do it herself?

...Is he right about that?

Aaah, no more thinking about difficult stuff. Kanade sighs, mostly mentally (bird lungs), and flaps down onto the rooftop. ] Ahhh.....now I'm hungry. You got bird feed in those wonder pockets?

[ In addition to the lighter, like, dude, why do you carry a lighter, is that a stupid question. ]

I know, right? [ Kanade shoulders her way into the dressing room fully, flipping the bra on her head up so Maria can see the stitching. ] You could probably run a marathon in one a' these, or beat it to your favorite shop before they closed 'cuz you forgot their hours, or, uh...

[ Uh. ] ....what kinda stuff do you do, anyway?

[ Dokugakuji steps up from a comfortable several yards away but it's a park so there's plenty of visibility. The real cloud is in the air after all. It's not like he's pals with Sanzo or anything - he'd never presume that, let alone suggest it vocally - but by now he's figured out that the guy came back as a god, so he's just a little more flagrant in how he speaks around the man. It helps him keep quieter around Gojyo. ]

Did you come down after that hoard, or get sent on an errand?

[ Doku's brought his two Soulless shinki along with him this time and they're standing nearby: a woman of average height in a newer robe and a tall man with his right eye sealed shut, over top of which is emblazoned his vessel name. ]

[ Lambo is holding back the tears because he's a man. And men don't cry. ]

Hold it.... in. Gotta.... stay.... calm....

[ Tsuna definitely didn't care about the stitching. As long as it holds together, he has little interest in it.

He nods at Makoto as he lists off other ways he intends to issue the demonstrations. Though Tsuna is curious of one of the methods. Rough fabric?]

Uh, what would the rougher fabric show? Like if it starts to pile or tear against it?

[He can see how some material could ruin delicate underwear. Tsuna thinks of something else, it's one thing to do an event like this, but how are they going to get people to pay attention?]

How should we draw people in? People might feel weird about testing out underwear in broad daylight.

[At least he feels a little weird about it.]

[ Men only cry in the dark they say, but even Tsuna had a few slip ups himself. He smiles gently at the teen, sighing a little in relief.]

You'll be fine, Lambo. Let's get out of here, before we encounter more snakes.

[He offers a hand out to the Italian, just how the older Lambo had done to him earlier.]

Riku barely resists reaching up to rub at his forehead in reply; he can feel the onset of a headache.]

[Really, he's avarage-looking at best. Leave pretty for people who actually deserve being called that. But anyway, they are getting off topic.]

[.... Huh. She has not seen anyone use the phone that way before. But she's met a walking, talking princess pony and two bipedal cats and a ghost-bird boy with a sword in his gut and a snake tail, so really this isn't actually the strangest thing by far that she's seen. She looks visibly confused before reading the text, getting a little closer so she can, then pulls back.]

I guess you prefer texting, huh? I'll give you my direct number so you don't have to show me instead, alright?

[Kairi does so, but then continues on with the original topic.]

I don't mind if you're from the Far Shore. You're probably doing a prayer, right?

[ He sniffles up at him and at the kind gesture Lambo valiantly stifles back the tears. ]

[ Wiping away the tears with the back of his hand, he takes the offered gesture. ]

This is all we have, and this is all we've ever sold! Besides, there's no way we're going to spend more on anything different without moving all of this stock first!

And such is how Soleil found herself flagging down any and every cute girl her eyes laid on in front of the store. Yep, right there, outside of the building, in public, she apparently has no problems with flaunting panties or discussing underwear business with any girl that happens to pass by.]

This is the kind of simplicity, [And here we have Soleil dialing the charm up to 2000 on a (surprisingly) very interested looking woman,] that really brings out the natural cuteness of a girl such as yourself. No distracting colors or patterns... [And here she holds up a bra to an appropriate height on the woman, looking her straight in the eyes and laying on a totally shameless,] Just you.

I mean, is it really doing anything that harmful...?

[The ayakashi dying the sky, that is. It's marvelous, and despite the panic that it's causing in some folks, it doesn't actually appear to be doing anything generally nefarious. Soleil can't help but gaze upwards, half searching for the culprit and half admiring the view with a gentle sense of wonder.]

It's almost romantic, I think. But, I guess if it is unnatural, something could be done to take it down. [Then, under her breath and mostly to herself,] Or maybe I could just find someone to enjoy the sight with. That could work, too.

I SAID MAYBAYYYY
[Well, if this isn't the most grimace-worthy thing she's encountered so far...]

That is no way to charm girls, he's doing it all wrong! All he's doing is wailing and making a racket.

[She huffs slightly, trying to weigh her options here. Help him find a better method, or try and put a stop to his clearly dastardly ways all together. Decisions...]

This has got to stop. [No matter what she ends up doing, she first wants to shut him up entirely. With that in mind, she'll go ahead and march right up to this misguided fellow and wrap one hand around the neck of the guitar, effectively silencing it. It's time to stop, pal.]

[A long pause and a slow blink. What’s going through Chikusa’s head? As always, it’s a mystery.]

….Do you know how to blow up a stove?

[In this state, Shun doesn't think she could do it herself, not without some major damage. While he can respect the desire to take all of this into her own hands, that's backfired on him regularly enough that he can see when it's a bad idea. Usually. Moreso when it doesn't involve him.

As they land, Shun hops off her back, dusting himself off. It seems like his coat has saved him from most of what would've otherwise blighted him - there's a scattering of the distinctive dark bruising around his jaw and a worse patch on the leading edge of the hand that was holding the lighter, but he can deal with it when they get back to the temple. It doesn't hurt enough to bother him too much, and as long as he doesn't touch Kanade with that part of his hand once she changes back, it should be fine.

On that note and with Kanade's question, Shun lets out a slight huff that could be frustrated or amused.]

I doubt it'd do you as much good as real food right now... [He casts one last glance across the sky to ensure they're not about to bear some kind of follow-up attack before settling on bringing her back out of the bird's form.] ...Amou Kanade.
