TEST DRIVE # 15

Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:

1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

To get you started, here are some ideas for thread-starters! Feel free to come up with your own ideas if these don't strike your fancy, though.

Sneaky Snakes

There are a number of snakes that have become possessed by a bunch of very sneaky ayakashi. They are slithering around, silently, snaring unsuspecting passersby into their trap - their trap to steal money. That's right, these snakes are busy snatching bills and coins from whoever they can. Try to put a stop to their thieving ways, or perhaps get thieved by them yourself.

Tummy Troubles

Many of the customers of a certain restaurant are complaining of the fact that their stomachs hurt after eating there. It could just be food poisoning, but many of these people are winding up in critical condition after a couple of days. It's time to figure out what the heck this cook is actually putting in the food.

Underwhelming Underwear

A family run business has been selling underwear for generations, but the underwear they sell is super boring and bland. Nobody wants to buy from them when cooler underwear is just around the corner. They've asked you to help them bring customers back in - by making their boring underwear seem as cool and hip as possible! How you do that is up to you.

Vividly Violet

There are so many ayakashi making their way through the air that at sunset the sky is turning an absolutely gorgeous shade of purple. Near Shore residents are reacting to this in varying ways. Many are delighted by the beautiful sky, but just as many are terrified that it's a sign of the end of times. Try to take down some ayakashi to make the sky less purple. Or just sit back and watch the beauty.

Wonder Wall

Anyways, there's this college boy who won't stop playing his acoustic guitar. He's from the US and is trying to pick up Japanese chicks. By now he should've somehow realized that they're totally not interested in him. But the song just keeps getting louder and louder and all that the people near the campus can hope is that today is gonna be the day that he stops playing. Maybe you're gonna be the one that saves them.

[Not his god's problem? Well...Chikusa did have a point. Gods didn't really know what right and wrong truly was, people and shinki have more of a sense of morality. Even more a reason why Tsuna feels Chikusa should have seen something wrong with this picture!

Tsuna backpedals back to the other side of the room, luckily Chikusa draws a borderline so the food ayakashi isn't still chasing him. Though he must look like a idiot in front of this guy. Making a scene only to cower when things became too real!]

I-I don't know. I didn't think it was going to sprout legs and crawl towards me!

[Maybe he's asking too much for people to learn the error of their ways, so he didn't have to deal with them. Definitely asking a lot! He gets up from his place on the floor, turns toward Chikusa, not sure what to make of someone who finds this entertaining. Though he did make that borderline for him, so maybe he doesn't want to be just a spectator.]

...A-are you really just here to watch?

Well, I can't be mad if things go a little over your head.

[Youji rubs his head. Pickpocketing snakes... maybe he needs to get out more.]

Where'd they put the money? I don't think they have pockets I can re-pick.

[ He likes the praise, very much so. Just look at this dork being so easily manipulated into helping with a few nice words of praise. ]

Well, if it's for the Farshore who am I to deny them?

[Tsuna is a bit taken back. The other Lambo has said something similar. This Lambo did recognize him, but it's a bit different.]

For me, they aren't quite old yet. [Tsuna allows himself to smile a little. Even this Lambo is more grown up, he still see thw younger and troublesome boy he used to look after.]

But I was wondering if you knew where you are right now?

Hmn?

[ He scratches the back of his head in contemplation taking a moment to take a second look around and this time he notices the very distinct pile of sdfiudiufgopdf ]

SNAKES!

[ He immediately scrambles to hide behind Tsuna shoving him forward to deal with the monstrosities! ]

[Whether stating the obvious is amusing or not, Shun doesn't seem to care. He'd just rather Kanade finish this and let herself rest sooner rather than later, and if destroying these ayakashi is going to do that, then he's the last person who's going to question it.

As she lets out that cry and they collide with the pack of beasts, there's a moment of pause where they don't quite seem to have registered what happened, as if the pain of the fire made it too hard to sense the follow-up.

But then they tear through and out the other side, and the ayakashi are either ripped asunder or implode into more of those shredded fragments, which dissolve into the night air and extinguish themselves. Though he hadn't been the one to fight them, the power needed for that final rending weighs a little on him too, and his fingers clench in Kanade's feathers as if to make sure she's still fit to fly. Losing people on a routine mission is something he's done more than enough of, and isn't interested in repeating the experience of.]

Find somewhere to land. That's a big enough hole in their numbers for now. [There are still a few floating across the sky, but the thick blanket of ayakashi that had once been there is now a pitiful, shredded mess.]

[Seiya had focused on two speeds: A) Eating and B) Fighting. It was a simple life for a Shinki. Helping people was more out of obligation than anything else. Though all things considered, he felt that a restaurant selling bad food would've been problematic for him...

And for the other people too. But he wasn't going to admit that flat out. So that's why he's thumbing through the menu and wondering if there was anything suspicious looking on it. His thoughts were cut off whenever he heard an abrasive voice...]

Hah? Hold on a sec, Miss Pink. I'm still decidin' here.

[Granted, Seiya needed manners giving how he's slouching back in his chair like some sort of delinquent with his legs crossed. He didn't own the place, but he's leaving the impression that he did.]

[ He looks over, not entirely focused on the person speaking but also not entirely on the snake either. ]

Huh? Nothin' much, just doin' some huntin' I guess?

[ While he's heard a story once about snake charmers from India, he's never seen or even heard of this before. Wow. ]

That's some skill ya've there, young miss.

That's...no kind'a song I ever heard afore.

[ Don't mind him staring and looking sort of amused. He's a hundred years too early, there's no way he's heard this kind of music before. ]

[ There's a scowl on his face as he comes up to put a hand on the very intense man's shoulder briefly, to catch his attention. ]

Mister, it ain't polite ta be wavin' round underdrawers in suchaways, and it's ain't no politer to be harassin' a lady. Would you lay it off?

[ He may be an outlaw but he still thought it was important to respect women and treat them well. There was no place for people who didn't. ]

[That's more the kind of behaviour Maria's used to handling given her job back home, and she gives a slight laugh even as Kanade backtracks that little bit.]

We all have to start somewhere. And you did get me this far, didn't you? [True, Maria was a relatively easy sale, but it's something.]

[Sharak nods. That's about what she'd expect, considering the last she'd seen of Genjo before arriving here herself, he'd been passed out with his head on Goku's lap. They're about even then.]

They're trying to maintain order, or most of them are. [Sharak gets out her own cigarettes and starts to remove one from the packet.] Gods are vanishing, we're appearing with some sort of tie to their followers, it's better for them to play along and try to hide their panic.

[Typical bureaucracy.]

[ Hakkai is lighting a cigarette, and all Sanzo can do is give him a sideways look.

There are a lot of things he wants to ask, but he keeps coming up with reasons he shouldn't. Even something amount the lines of who he had to work with here would be a problem. And where were Gojyo and Goku? No, he'll just have to focus on practicalities. ]

You're taking it too easily. [ It's an absurd sounding criticism, muttered more to fill space.

But it's not entirely wrong. Hakkai is far too settled even on a scale of his peculiar nature. ] How much have I missed?

I've been here for four months. [Hakkai exhales, pale smoke dissipating on the flower-scented summer breeze, and casts Sanzo a glance out of the corner of his eye.]

You were here as a shinki for part of that time.

[And, he reflects, Genjo Sanzo being here means that his sutra is also here, and that they might have another chance to test whether proximity to it truly would unlock shinki memories from whatever spell had constrained them. He'll leave that suggestion for later.]

[ Looking up from her snakes, Ram hangs a mouse in one hand by the tail just over the heads of the swaying group. She doesn't recognize him, which only makes her suspicious, and she makes no attempt to hide that in her face. ]

No, I am controlling these life-like puppets through the use of a special skill that has been passed down through my bloodline that activated when I was twelve years old.

[ The deadpan delivery of that line should be more than enough to tell that she is lying. ]

[Corrin moves quickly to catch her before she hits the ground. She eases her down to rest against her lap before she turns to the crowd.]

Get me something to rest her head!

[She has to make sure she's alright before she storms into the kitchen.]

[It's interesting seeing him like this without his memories of their time together. He would never act like this towards her. Even if he did, he would get very embarrassed and Corrin would gently tease him about it too. She has seen this mood towards Felicia and the others servants. She's going to have to try and work with him.]

How have people gotten him to leave before? Maybe if we have him something else to play with the intent that he goes to practice, then it will be a while before he returns.

[ Sudden tension overcomes the weariness he felt. He's otherwise still, only a tightness in his voice and posture giving away his confusion.

Four months? He'd have expected a week, he could have imagined being down for a full week and waking up with little improvement. He isn't quite so willing to accept this as easily. He's never been one to admit to anxiety, and he refuses to acknowledge that knot in his chest as he searches his memory and comes up with absolutely nothing.

It had already been obviously that the power behind all of this is in a class of it's own. He doesn't actually doubt him.

[That sounds like a good idea. Corrin turns and gestures over to the small store where she watched the skies change earlier.]

It might be small, but I'm sure it wouldn't mind having someone like you around. Let's go over there and wait things out for a while, okay?

[She really doesn't want to get into a fight right now.]

[There's a tone of voice Sanzo uses to say, That's bullshit, that means, I don't want to accept that. Hakkai crosses his legs and takes another drag on his cigarette.]

Does it sound funny?

[It's not funny at all, and his voice is very, very mild.]

Even among gods, I'm not sure you can believe everything you remember. I've heard that certain things don't line up.

[He casts Sanzo another sidelong look, this one almost amused, and adds:] Unfortunately, I couldn't be told what those things were or why.

[ Simple idiots really do annoy Ram most of all. Perverted, mannerless, and obnoxious ones especially, but anyone who looks like they might be an annoyance to her in even the slightest way are judged on the spot, and it's almost never good.

Then again, she is never outright hostile, always hiding behind a veneer of backhanded insults and a deadpan stoicism. ]

No, please, take your time. If you require assistance reading the menu I can attempt to help you sound out the words to make it easier? Or I could retrieve a menu with more pictures, if you would prefer.

[ She bows her head as if she were being polite, a good maid even, but her words are anything but. ]

[ What kind of maid would Ram be if she didn't have at least a few secrets up her sleeve? Secrets like communing with animals, or the knives she hides beneath her dress?!

Okay, she doesn't carry knives, but she does also not appreciate being seen in the middle of her bartering session either, turning up her head with suspicion written on her face at the newcomer. ]

I was... giving them directions to the nearest 24/7 convenience store.

[ No she wasn't!! ]

[ Cant' say he doesn't carry both of those on his person as well. But he's an outlaw, he's bound to have those.

He smiles, the look coming easy and friendly on his face. ]

There ain't no need'a fib with me, I ain't gonna chastise ya, nor tell anyon'e neither. I've done some stealin' in the past myself, though nothin' near as advanced as your ways.

[ No, he's just nearly the only outlaw in the West with the guts or the crazy enough to rob banks. Also trains but those were stables for robbers, more or less. ]

Except this also takes longer.

[Yoon mutters it under his breath with a huff.]

But whatever. Your prayer and all.

[He stands back and gestures for the waiter to continue. He won't interrupt until Riku and he settle this.]
