TEST DRIVE # 14



Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:

1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

To get you started, here are some ideas for thread-starters! Feel free to come up with your own ideas if these don't strike your fancy, though.



Noxious Neurotoxins

There's a few blocks of Tokyo that have been closed off completely and quarantined. It seems there's a deadly neurotoxin that's been detected in the area. But authorities claim there's no way that could have happened! Looks like this might be the work of an ayakashi. Try not to get infected.

Omnipresent Obituary

The same obituary has been showing up in the papers for the last three weeks. It's for a young boy who died in a car accident. Thing is, this accident happened more than twenty years ago. A little ghost boy is just looking for some attention by printing his own death announcement over and over again. Spend a little time with him, would you?

Pretentious Partner

A detective hailed as the greatest in his field has one heck of a time keeping a partner. But he needs one bad, so he's calling on random strangers to help him out. Unfortunately, he's very full of himself and not even that good at his job. Maybe that's why all his partners leave. It's up to you to help or hurt him!

Quick Quips

Time to step up to the mic and make some jokes. A local bar needs performers - specifically comedic ones. You'd better be quick with your jokes or the audience is going to boo you off the stage, and then you won't get the payment you've been promised for doing a good job! Oh, and this is a request from a devote follower, so you'll lose that support too.

Radical Roombas

Some off-the-wall ayakashi have possessed a number of Roombas and are busily terrorizing people on the streets. That's right - small, round, automated vacuum cleaners are bothering the people of Tokyo. What's more, some kid thought it would be funny to tape knives to some of them. Watch out for Stabby and try to take out the spirit possessing it.

[ Yona has been studying and asking questions, wanting to learn as much as she could about this new world that she was in. Even if it sometimes felt as if there was so much that she would never catch up.

Tucking the paper away, she clasps her hands behind her as she walks beside Zeno, letting her gaze take in their surroundings. There was no sign of a ghostly child, but they hadn't gone very far yet either. ]

They go very fast. Maybe that was how?

Duel Spirit?

[ That's as much a foreign idea to her as shinki and Roombas.

Taking advantage of the fact that he seems adept at shooing the machines away, she's quick to hop up on the bench, perching carefully, even as she turns and offers him a hand to assist him up as well. ]

That is something different?

[ Yona's mouth drops open in surprise when Hibiki launches herself forward to attack, brandishing her sword at them. ]

Be careful! Some of them are armed as well!

[ If one could consider knives affixed with tape 'armed' but the Roombas seem to be managing surprisingly well. Unfortunately for them. ]

Hmmm. I suppose that is true. [ This is probably not the time or the place to be pondering that, but he's right, that does sound rather fun, in a way. She might even want to try it, were the circumstances not so dangerous.

His suggestion has her expression brightening, because at least that's something she can assist with. ]

I have my bow! But I'm not sure if my arrows can pierce their armor...

[ They looked very sturdy. ]

[ Always willing to listen to his suggestions, Yona pauses and tilts her head to the side thoughtfully, because that's something she's not sure she'd considered. Or perhaps not in the way he's offering a perspective on. ]

What do you mean?

[ Aaaaand that's going to get the redhead really riled now as he turns to glare at the....

Wait, what the hell are you?

Momentarily distracted, he can only blink at the white-haired stranger stomping on a Roomba (because that's something you see every day) in wordless stupefaction before remembering. Oh, right. He's pissed at you.

Yata jabs an accusing finger in the stranger's direction. ]

Then don't go around throwing shit, asshole!

[ Nodding in approval, his hands curl excitedly! That's the spirit! ]

Yes, that's fine! We have to try to keep anyone else from getting sick... [ His tone dampens a bit. ] Or worse.

[ Taking a breath to rid his mind of the thought, he points vaguely down the street. ]

Right, so, I heard something unusual over that way, and I was heading down to see what it was!

Neurotoxin

[Another Shinki was standing idly and watching the police running around like chickens. Deep down, he really wanted to help out... But he was among the dead. There wasn't much that Seiya felt like he could do for the living.

Though it looked like that girl had other ideas. Having nothing better to do, he decides to approach her anyway with a begrudging sigh.]

Haaah... Oi, Blue. You're just gonna go in there?

[ His time period was a bit more advance than some so he was able to decipher things with ease. Of course, he had to be useful to a God he's currently working with right? There's no way he'd mess up. ]

It's quite a complex formula to come up with , Kikyo-san. You do proceed the rumors. Perhaps-- I think we might have to purify the culprit. I am assuming the cause is an Ayakashi judging from the pattern of the poisonous gas.

I-Inuyasha?

[ Mikleo almost gets hit when the half demon stomped pass him to the kid, in which Mikleo steps between the both of them almost instantly. ]

You need to calm down. We're not here to fight him.

[ Even though knowing the the other was a dog demon, Mikleo was brave enough to do this much. The whole idea that dog demons actually exist makes him feel antsy, but at least he looks like a person so the fear isn't so innate as an actual animal. ]

Roombas

[ Mikleo sends some of the Roombas flying a few water blasts when he catches sight of someone getting injured by the ones with the sharp objects. He flung them enough to buy the two of them some time. ]

Are you alright? Will you let me heal your injury?

[ He mused seriously as he made his way over to check the other. ]

[rougeawakening]

[ Ruby nods, her energy dramatically reduced with Yona's agreement from a raging thunderstorm to a calm yet deadly electrical crackle. ]

Ready at your command, My Lady.

[hardedge]

[ Unnecessarily violent at first glance, but not as rough as he appeared to be. InuYasha just has an unrefined way of expressing concern. Having no memories of his past have admittedly put him on edge, but he was accepting it little by little. The foul mood demon retracted some as he tucked his arms into his sleeves. ]

If he wanted attention he should have just said so.

[ InuYasha made a pointed glance at the child before directly staring at his confronter. Still ignoring the creature. The kid, however, was still unsure but felt rather comfortable around the smiling guy. He'll just continue to cling to him. ]

[ What better way to fight a fiery temper than with a fiery temper, right?

Perhaps Yata would be more forthcoming if he understood the context of the situation, and he just might. ]

You wanna start somethin'?!

[ Because he'll fight you too, bro! InuYasha wasn't going to get the first hit, however, since a few roombas were already closing in for the kill to attack the redhead. ]

[hardedge]

[ His claws cut into several as he slashed at them effortlessly. They were weak, but they made up for it with numbers. InuYasha was tired of dealing with them. ]

Then stay outta the way.

[ InuYasha didn't want to hurt anyone, honest. Just let him finish demolishing these things. ]

[hardedge]

[ Fine! InuYasha pivoted, resting his arms in his sleeves. ]

You deal with it then.

[ Tsunning. ]

[hardedge]

[ Oh great. Not Mikleo again.

InuYasha wasn't going to hit anyone. His first instinct isn't to hit a small child, but hey! At least he came off threatening. Not that he even needed to try. The dog demon halted, preventing himself from colliding into Mikleo. ]

I'm just gonna teach the brat a lesson.

[ By teach, InuYasha meant becoming menacing and chew him out. Probably make the kid cry in the process. InuYasha wasn't very good at being sensitive or gentle, so this wasn't anything new. ]

( Do we really gotta smash them all up like that like look... Urashima isn't going to stay down for very long and he chases after one roomba, picking it up with a swoop and just holds onto it. )

Can't we just put them all somewhere safe? They're... bad toys or something, right?

( These are clearly toys??? )

[ Ah geez. A stake out? He almost never had the patience for this. There was subtle growl in his throat as he conceded to her suggestion. ]

These things happen all the time.

[ It did in their world. InuYasha wouldn't remember that though, but it didn't mean he wasn't aware of it being a reality altogether. ]

It's not me I'm worried about! [Considering the pressure that sword emits, every one of Dust's hairs stands on end just from being near it.] There are better ways to handle this!

I have some previous experience with purification, so assuming that the base is the same, I should be able to do this without too much trouble.

Your help is invaluable, Ichiru-san. I will be depending on you.

[Kikyo's eyes wandered the odd streets it definitely seemed like the gas was being emitted from a particular source, being more densely packed in a building before dispersing throughout the surrounding area.]

Logic isn't always effective with the deceased.

[Kikyo responded solemnly.]

We can deduct the reasons, but they won't necessarily make sense. His friends may have passed, but that wouldn't stop him from waiting for them forever. And forcing him to come face to face with it may turn him volatile, which would leave a bad taste in both of our mouths if it came to that.

It could be anything. His friends, his parents, or even something he hasn't experience yet. Or even confronting the person responsible for his accident.

We could always leave this case to another team. They just may gain recognition for it, and where would that leave us?

[If anything, Kikyo knew he had pride.]

I personally don't mind. You're the best shinki out there and I wouldn't want to take on any job that's beneath your power.

[Kikyo couldn't help but form a small, subtle smile.]

Very well then.

I believe that they sell some of that instant-ramen you like over at the store. Go ahead and eat and I'll take care of it.

[Loki sighs.]

Unless these roombas happen to have a secret flaw in the form of a tiny hole where, if shot at a certain angle, makes them explode in a spectacular fashion... not likely.

How about if we add explosives to the arrow?
