TEST DRIVE # 13



Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:

1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

To get you started, here are some ideas for thread-starters! Feel free to come up with your own ideas if these don't strike your fancy, though.



Illegal Irritations

Nothing supernatural about this one, there are just some guys sell illegal drugs and weaponry in some of the back alleys of Tokyo. They might solicit you to try and get your business or you might just happen upon them targeting someone else. Either way, are you really okay with letting this go on in your city?

Jumping Jellyfish

For some strange reason, a bunch of jellyfish have taken to literally jumping out of the ocean and all over the beaches. They seem to be scared of something in the water, but be that as it may, they're scaring away all the beach tourism! Quick, figure out how to get them back in the water!

Kooky Kickoff

A brand new store is opening up and, as part of their grand opening, they want people to perform for their potential customers! And they're just dragging people off of the streets and shoving them into ridiculous, off-brand character costumes to do it. Whether you're part of the show or watching others make fools of themselves, it promises to be a good time.

Lovely Lingerie

There's a great, new brand of lingerie being sold in Akihabara that is all the rage right now. They're stylish and sexy and come in all shapes, sizes, and colors! There's even some that are themed after popular shows. But people who are buying them keep winding up missing. Coincidence?

Manic Molting

So many birds are molting on the spot for no reason, shedding feathers all over the streets, on peoples' cars, and in any space they can get into. It's really not their fault, but darn if it's not making things difficult to do with all these feathers around! Either help clean up or figure out how to stop the mass molting!

Being ignored? The masked figure sighs - but quietly, and into their cape, so as not to be overheard. Then, as the fight continues uninterrupted beneath them, they cross both their arms and their legs from up on their perch.

"Make it quick," they say, perfectly calm, as if they hang out on windowsills watching chivalric knights brawl with modern street thugs every day. "I am unaccustomed to waiting."

And wait they do. Watching, too. Are you going to follow instructions like a good boy, or will they have to involve themselves so as to avoid this becoming a waste of time?

[ He stifles the urge to sigh heavily and grits his teeth in reply instead, straightening his shoulders in stubborn determination. Even if he ends up looking like a man being marched to his inevitable doom instead. ]

Yeah. The sooner we find out what's happening to those missing girls, the sooner we can get away from this place, right?

[ That counts as a silver lining, doesn't it? ]

[ There's an answering warmth in the strange brand on Yata's collarbone, something he'd woken up with here and he gives a startled yelp as it flares with an answering aura a moment before he claps his hand over it. He stares down at it in shock for a moment before looking back up at the man who's now walking away, confusion warring with surprise on his face. ]

Wait!

[ Pretend that sounded more demanding and confident than bewildered and a shade desperate as Yata lunges forward, dashing to catch up and put himself in front of the man once more, blocking him from walking away and holding out his arms to make himself look bigger. Not that it works, because let's be real, Yata's pretty slight compared to most people. ]

What the hell was that?!

Jellyfish >.>

[welcome_home]

[ There's a little girl standing at the edge of the water behind him, dressed in a frilly pink bathing suit and carrying a bucket half-full of seashells. And also watching him with her an open mouth and wide eyes as he takes a bite out of the jellyfish he'd just caught with his bare hands. ]

Whoa! Can you eat those?

[lionhearrt]

[ Mikoto stares back at him, his answer immediate - ]

What a shitty god.

[ Just like him. ]

[ The little girl in pigtails had spotted him a while earlier but it had taken her a while to gather up the courage to approach because... well. He looked pretty angry, and that's usually enough to make Nanako run in the other direction to begin with. But her curiosity ended up winning out eventually and she hesitantly approached to stand in front of the man and peer up at him with an uncertain expression. ]

What are you supposed to be?

[toremainbehind]

Better than my first god.

[Izumo's carefully gauging him.

His slip of his first god was unintentional, but he won't take it back. He's already lost two gods; he's always losing-

Izumo stops that train of thought immediately. It was simply faint, nothing more. But Izumo will take out a cigarette and silently offers Mikoto one.]

[ Mikoto stops, letting Yata have his say. It's the least he can do after everything. He'd been selfish in the end, and left it all to them and this was where he lead them. He'd done this. This power... it didn't protect anyone. ]

[ He pulls out a cigarette, lighting it with his aura. He takes a drag of smoke, letting it calm him as he pulls the flames threatening to spill over, deeper inside. ]

So, [ he looks at him ] what do you want to know?

[ He turns around, a frown visible as he chews on his crispy cuisine. It wasn't as tasty as he first thought. When he catches sight of the kid, he nods in affirmation. ]

If you don't mind the taste.

[thevanguard]

[ His eyes widen at that offer - because that's dangerous territory to venture into and he knows that, but Yata's also not the sort to let fear be the kind of thing that daunts him for long.

Plus the guy had just summoned fire out of nowhere to light his cigarette and how cool was that? that was something he hadn't expected either. Then again, there were lots of gods in this place and most of them seemed to have pretty cool powers.

Some semblance of self-preservation was warning him to be cautious here but Yata's been ignoring that pretty thoroughly ever since he'd found himself here so now seemed a silly time to start paying attention to it. ]

What did you just do? That... with the fire and the red glow and the....? [ He waves a hand at Mikoto in general because how else was he supposed to just describe all of that? ]

[lionhearrt]

[ He stares at the cigarette and smiles faintly, leave it to him to always have a stash on him. Mikoto takes it, lighting it with his aura before taking a drag. One cigarette. He'll let things end with one last cigarette. ]

[toremainbehind]

[Ah, there's a smile.

Izumo's not sure why it brings a strange burst of happiness, familiarity, but he'll take it. He'll light his own cigarette. He knows he should let the other man go, knowing the threat he poses when it concerns his past.

It's too bad Izumo's never been a kind person to let certain things slip away.]

[idiopic]

There was that voice again. Who in the world was talking to him? And where was it coming from? Whatever--Tristepin had bigger Kraloves to fry.

It didn't take long for him to dispatch the hooligans in the alley. Hah! Villains were always all talk and no action! It was almost too easy. Dusting his hands off, he shaded his eyes and peered up over his head again, frowning.

"Voice? Are you still there?" he called. He still wasn't sure he hadn't imagined it. A lot of weird things had happened since he'd come to this place, after all.

[lionhearrt]

[ It's dangerous, which is exactly why he offered it. He wouldn't tell him of his past, he had paid attention but his vanguard deserved answers, but first he takes another drag of his cigarette. ]

You sure you want to know?

[lionhearrt]

[ He takes another drag of the cigareete, letting the smoke fill his lungs before blowing it out. It's calming. ]

Where'd you get these?

[ He'll need to start buying his own now, so better get the info from him now. ]

[toremainbehind]

Quaint little shop on the Near Shore.

[He reaches a hand into his pocket and tosses the other man the carton.

It's still nearly full.]

[lionhearrt]

[ He plucks them from the air and stares down at them. Always looking out for him, even when he couldn't remember. ]

Don't mention it.

[He was a link to his past, one that he should forget about and move on.]

[ When he doesn't yell or get mad at the interruption, she tentatively wanders a little closer, peering up at him as the waves wash in around her knees. ]

[ He pockets the cigarettes and turns to leave. Izumo would do well on his own, that he's always known. ]

[ That.... sounds like a loaded question and Yata's not sure how to answer it but it's a little late to start backtracking now, right? ]

Uhh. Is there a reason I shouldn't?

[ Watch them just have a conversation composed entirely of evasive questions. ]

Don't do anything rash.

[And this time, he'll let Mikoto leave.]

[ And of course, that tug is going to get Bandou landing on his ass right next to Yata. Oh hey, he's looking up at you for once. ]

Why not?? How else are we supposed to do this prayer?

[ Wuss. ]
