TEST DRIVE # 13



Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:

1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

To get you started, here are some ideas for thread-starters! Feel free to come up with your own ideas if these don't strike your fancy, though.



Illegal Irritations

Nothing supernatural about this one, there are just some guys sell illegal drugs and weaponry in some of the back alleys of Tokyo. They might solicit you to try and get your business or you might just happen upon them targeting someone else. Either way, are you really okay with letting this go on in your city?

Jumping Jellyfish

For some strange reason, a bunch of jellyfish have taken to literally jumping out of the ocean and all over the beaches. They seem to be scared of something in the water, but be that as it may, they're scaring away all the beach tourism! Quick, figure out how to get them back in the water!

Kooky Kickoff

A brand new store is opening up and, as part of their grand opening, they want people to perform for their potential customers! And they're just dragging people off of the streets and shoving them into ridiculous, off-brand character costumes to do it. Whether you're part of the show or watching others make fools of themselves, it promises to be a good time.

Lovely Lingerie

There's a great, new brand of lingerie being sold in Akihabara that is all the rage right now. They're stylish and sexy and come in all shapes, sizes, and colors! There's even some that are themed after popular shows. But people who are buying them keep winding up missing. Coincidence?

Manic Molting

So many birds are molting on the spot for no reason, shedding feathers all over the streets, on peoples' cars, and in any space they can get into. It's really not their fault, but darn if it's not making things difficult to do with all these feathers around! Either help clean up or figure out how to stop the mass molting!

[ What kind of excuse is that? Aside from a terrible one, but Noctis is already tired of arguing this point. He guesses he has no choice if this guy is just going to be irritating about it. ]

Fine, I'm going, I'm going. Just get me close enough to dive in properly.

[ The prospect of being wet right now is still not an attractive one, but at least, he doesn't have armor to worry about. Not that he thinks that's a good enough reason, but he's climbing on the barge and waiting expectantly, looking none too happy about this venture.

For all the trouble it's worth, he hopes there's actually something down there worth fighting, and he's not just swimming around like an idiot for no reason. His body leans over the edge to try and get a good look, but the water's surface isn't clear enough. ]

Where are you planning to drop me off anyway...

[ And cue him having second thoughts already as the ocean looks indiscernible in all directions. How is he going to swim back? ]

[ In truth, the explosion couldn't have hurt Hibiki. They're more dramatic than violent, and Kabuto himself has to stand right in them all the time because the monsters are blowing up at the edge of his feet.

Probably. There's also the fact that he's wearing a full suit of armour.

But then again, the ayakashi are clearly different from the Worm. The Worm were, contrary to their name, buglike creatures. An exoskeleton filled with a whole bunch of unpleasantness to be sure, but none of it was especially toxic. Ayakashi however, blight on touch. Having them blow up everywhere might be dangerous.

Tendou will have to take note of that next time. ]

That's taken care of. Perhaps people will be able to use the beach again.

[ The masked hero nods, clearly satisfied with a job well done, as he tosses a needle to the ground behind him. ]

I should get someone to clean all this up before declaring it open though. There may be dangerous things still lying around.

[ Hibiki's status is clearly not his top priority. ]

That will not be a problem. The light of the sun reveals all things.

[ Who do you think he is? Well, clearly Noctis thinks he's some irritating guy, but that's not how Tendou sees himself, and isn't that what's most important?

The sun barge travels just above the surface of the water, glowing and sparkling all the way as befits a carrier of the sun. (Chariots are very overrated.) In fact, now that they're on the barge, the shining sphere that represents the sun sitting right in the middle should be obvious.

The light pierces through the dimness of the sea, and it immediately becomes obvious what they're dealing with:

Ayakashi.

Why would it be anything else? A big honking octopus-like creature, covered with eyeballs and generally unpleasant, flinging jellyfish out of the water with its tentacles. ]

I was right not to cook those jellyfish. They've probably been blighted if this is the case.

[ Clearly the most important thing. ]

[shutsdoors]

[Elsa claps her hands together, startled by this person walking out on the ice, and... well, she has to come, if something happens, it'll be entirely her fault.

When she steps on the ice, it reinforces, gets thicker and stronger. Elsa's eyes widen.]

Let me walk first. [Hurriedly.] Step directly behind me, only. The further it gets from me, the thinner the ice.

[shutsdoors]

I wasn't trying to... not exactly.

[She's not even sure what she was trying to do, but the ice is spreading slowly.]

They might need this harbor for boats, too. But I don't know how to stop it, besides wait for it to melt.

[staystraught]

Not a subscriber to the "repetition makes it funny" school of pestering people.

[Despite smile cracking across his face.]

Ever think about... coming up with your own jokes?

[armigers]

Yeah, that's the reason why you shouldn't be cooking them.

[ Just ignore the glaring fact that jellyfish isn't food no matter how many times he tries to convince himself it is. At least, a big octopus-like creature isn't that out of the usual from what Noctis has had to deal with back home, so he's not particularly fazed except for the fact that he'll have to battle it in the water. Not exactly the best place to warp around. ]

Just get me a little closer. I'll take care of the rest.

[ He hovers on the edge of the barge, already summoning one of his swords and preparing to launch himself at the octopus with a warp strike. He manages to strike it at one of his eyes before hovering and airstepping so he can start striking vehemently at the other eyes until he can no longer remain floating.

That's when he drops into the water, holding his breath and swimming fast to the surface. If the barge stays close enough, he can keep warping to it to keep recovering his energy and use that as a strike-off point to stab the octopus. ]

Too bad Ignis isn't around to grill this guy up when I'm done with him.

[ Words spoken to himself more than anything, but he is sorely missing having the guys' battle support at the moment as that would infinitely make battling this thing a lot easier. ]

[Lenneth turns her head slightly to look sidelong at Elsa, then stops, allowing the woman to catch up and step on ahead.]

You do not need to worry about my falling in. But I cannot fight effectively in the air.

Hhhh....

[ Okay, yes, this is a problem. The girl lying beneath Hibiki doesn't seem to notice the way she's gone all ashen, though. She's too busy not knowing where this mysterious savior came from all of a sudden, and also not caring.

They make a good couple. One with too much blood rushing to her cheeks and one without nearly enough.

Hibiki will not be, let us say, assisting in the cleanup process. Or sampling anything Tendou chooses to cook out of what's left. ]

[lionhearrt]

[ Mikoto knows exactly where all his clansmen have their HOMRA marks, so he doesn't miss that subconscious gesture. He walks forward, hands in his pockets before pausing beside him. He's silent, but only for a second before: ]

There's nothing wrong with you.

[ He never looks at him and keeps on walking. ]

[lionhearrt]

[ The name rings no bells. ]

Something like that.

[ If he's here, then it'd probably be a good chance that more people from his world were here too. Hopefully, it wouldn't be more of his clansmen. The presence of Izumo and Misaki already troubled him enough. If anymore showed up... Mikoto wouldn't need to be told what happened after he was gone. ]

[ His aura surges at the thought, creating a halo of red all around him. ]

I'd suggest not eating pure malevolence. [ So ayakashi shaped like octopi are great eating, but perfectly ordinary jellyfish are completely off-limits? Tendou's expression tries to encapsulate the absurdity he finds in that, but there's no way it could possibly manage that.

So he has to make do with watching Noctis blink around the place chopping at the monster and generally seeming unimpressed. ]

It looks like I'll have to join in.

[ Perhaps it shows a lack of confidence in Noctis' displayed skills. There's no doubt that the man is a better fighter than the ayakashi, but it's taking a while, and there's a very real chance he runs out of stamina before managing a decisive blow.

And as any masked hero will tell you, the decisive blow is the only one that matters.

Tendou Souji raises his hand, palm open and waiting for a robotic beetle to fly into it. Said beetle is snapped into his belt buckle, and armour forms all around the sun god. ]

Transform.

[ Well, at least he wasn't lying about having heavy armour. ]

[ Tendou almost wants to start competing over who can make girls start blushing better, but there aren't that many girls around given the jellyfish infestation, and really, this isn't the time for that.

Besides, considering that he's not the one currently experiencing total colour failure from having a bit of dead monster touch them, Tendou will consider that a win for himself overall.

Then again, he considers most things a win for himself overall. Mostly because they are.

He starts to leave, scratching his chin in thought. ]

What should we have for dinner? It's a good day for seafood, it seems...

[ Only a few steps later does he realise he's forgotten something. ]

Are you coming, or will you keep holding on to that girl until morning?

[ Because that too, is a thing that can happen. He won't stop you. ]

Then we shall wait for it to melt, but there's no reason why it needs to take that long.

[ Tendou points up at the sky, where a big gold boat is waiting. Was it always there? Of course it was, the sun barge carries the sun across the sky. The glare of sunlight just keeps it out of sight most of the time.

Said flying barge carries a single glowing orb as its centrepiece, a miniature burning sun, if only because as one of many sun gods, he's not allowed to drag the real thing around for no good reason. ]

The winter must give way to the light of dawn, no?

[priforprince]

[ Oh, goodness! Now there are two attractive men on the beach and, from this girl's perspective, she has no idea where either of them came from!

Hibiki, meanwhile, exhales, and begins to gather said girl up into her arms. She doesn't actually know whether she's blighted through the fabric of her shirt or not. It doesn't matter. The scion of the Shikyoin Conglomerate cannot abide the presence of disharmonious, corrupt poison like ayakashi. Even if she isn't blighted, she still needs to detox.

First, though. The Prince escorts the lady to safety. She has made it to her feet, girl in her arms, and begins walking away without another word.

She doesn't even know who you are, sir. But your doll is going straight into the idiot box. ]

[armigers]

[ He could have just helped him out from the very beginning if he was going to jump in anyway, and they could have gotten this done way faster. Instead, Noctis has spent the past couple of minutes warping around and slicing off octopus limbs to weaken it and stop it from trying to grab him. It's obvious who did the bulk of the work here, not that he cares much about getting credit so long as there's not a giant octopus in the ocean ravaging helpless swimmers or scaring off all the good fish.

Another tentacle arm goes down while Noctis spots his temporary ally out of the corner of his eye, looking a little embarrassed for him. What is he wearing... ]

You're right. That is terrible to swim in.

[ And just. Why would anyone willingly wear that?

Well, he's sure there's some benefit that outweighs how awful it looks so he keeps his mouth shut for now and returns to slicing up tentacle arms. ]

It's almost down anyway no thanks to you, so you might as well not risk drowning.

[ Noctis doesn't think he'll be able to get him out of the water if that suit is as heavy as it looks. ]

[zenithguard]

She shrugged, stoically. "The world is vast, and filled with strange things. Getting used to it has been part of my life for longer than I have been here."

[pathofheaven]

You won't get anything done if all you're doing is fighting its tentacles. Just watch.

[ Thankfully, he can't hear Noctis' thoughts, because if you asked him, Kamen Rider Kabuto is the epitome of cool.

He pulls back the beetle's horns on his belt. This causes the top layer of armour to purge, revealing the red beetle-styled Rider Form beneath with an announcement of "Cast Off" and "Change Beetle." Next, he taps three buttons along the top of the beetle shaped buckle, the belt counting along with "1, 2, 3, Rider Kick." ]

Rider Kick.

[ Tendou leaps off the boat, and delivers a flying kick to the octopus' head, now that there aren't any tentacles in the way thanks to Noctis' efforts.

And the ayakashi explodes, because of course it does. ]

[ That's a matter of debate here, King.

The statement isn't what he expected and he spins around to follow the god's passage with an incredulous gaze as he walks past him. ]

How would you know that? You just met me! [ Obviously, right? ]

Hey! [ He chases after the man to catch up, Mikoto's longer strides covering more distance than Yata typically does on foot. ] If I learn how to control it, can I do shit like that, too? [ 'Shit' being accompanied by a gesture at Mikoto himself for emphasis, just in case the other man wasn't following what part he was questioning. ]

[lionhearrt]

[ He smirks but instead of answering he takes another long drag of his cigarette, letting the smoke blow out leisurely and in a long drawl: ]

Don't expect me to give you all the answers.

[thevanguard]

[ There's a twitch starting to show near one of Yata's eyes as he scowls up at the much taller man in irritation. Even though he's not yelling yet, which is... actually pretty restrained of him. Whether he realizes it or not. ]

Oy! You didn't give me any answers! You're the one that asked what I wanted to know!

[ I think this officially makes you a tease, Mikoto. ]

[lionhearrt]

[ He looks at him. Clearly amused by his outburst. This is the first time since he's arrived that he's felt more like himself instead of a fallen King. He grins, his smile spreading to his eyes as red begins to engulf him like wildfire. ]

I'll teach you how to use it.

[ using the loosest definition of 'teach' ]

[thevanguard]

[ That... sounds like a loaded offer. A trap? Definitely triggering some deeply-buried warning sirens somewhere in the back of his mind.

Which is, of course, exactly why Yata gives a fierce grin and pumps a fist in the air. ]

Yeah! Alright! Show me how to do that!

[ He opens his hand and a fireball bursts to life purring gently in his palm. ]

[ And the fireball is hurled in his direction roaring to life. ]
