TEST DRIVE # 13



Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:

1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

To get you started, here are some ideas for thread-starters! Feel free to come up with your own ideas if these don't strike your fancy, though.



Illegal Irritations

Nothing supernatural about this one, there are just some guys sell illegal drugs and weaponry in some of the back alleys of Tokyo. They might solicit you to try and get your business or you might just happen upon them targeting someone else. Either way, are you really okay with letting this go on in your city?

Jumping Jellyfish

For some strange reason, a bunch of jellyfish have taken to literally jumping out of the ocean and all over the beaches. They seem to be scared of something in the water, but be that as it may, they're scaring away all the beach tourism! Quick, figure out how to get them back in the water!

Kooky Kickoff

A brand new store is opening up and, as part of their grand opening, they want people to perform for their potential customers! And they're just dragging people off of the streets and shoving them into ridiculous, off-brand character costumes to do it. Whether you're part of the show or watching others make fools of themselves, it promises to be a good time.

Lovely Lingerie

There's a great, new brand of lingerie being sold in Akihabara that is all the rage right now. They're stylish and sexy and come in all shapes, sizes, and colors! There's even some that are themed after popular shows. But people who are buying them keep winding up missing. Coincidence?

Manic Molting

So many birds are molting on the spot for no reason, shedding feathers all over the streets, on peoples' cars, and in any space they can get into. It's really not their fault, but darn if it's not making things difficult to do with all these feathers around! Either help clean up or figure out how to stop the mass molting!

[ That logic makes no sense at all, and Noctis still wants no part in these shenanigans, especially if they'll result in the both of them getting into trouble. No one is going to trust their prayers to a god who might be a pervert. ]

What?! No way! Hold on! I'm not agreeing to this! If it's the two of us, it'll look weirder, not more valid!

[ Does he really have to point out why? What if they think that the lingerie is for one of them? He firmly wrestles himself out of Prompto's grip, feet still planted on the ground as he avoids the entrance. ]

I like my plan better. You go in, and I wait all the way out here.

[argenteums]

[ That's because he's totally not thinking outside the box here, but it's why he has him around! He's about to protest with that, when one of the attendants there approaches them, a nice girl in a cute outfit and a badge and beams at them.

"Oh, don't be shy, the both of you! We have plenty of pretty options, even for men of your size. You should fit right into what we have! Right this way!" She says.

Prompto's eyes widen in shock as they're addressed and he begins to protest ]

Uh, hang on a second... we're not... that is...!!

[ The lady doesn't seem to be listening, inviting them both in now and Prompto kind of wants to cry inside. Well, Noct? He's not going to be mean to an insistent, sweet girl who is just doing her job... apparently?! ]

[armigers]

[ Why did they have to bring out Prompto's weakness right now of all times? Is he seriously still considering this? Well, Prompto is the one that's probably interested in her, so he has no problem placing a hand on his back and nudging him closer to the sales attendant but not before leaning in close to his ear to whisper- ]

You don't want to be rude to her, do you?

[ Sorry, Prompto, but you're on your own here, and he's just going to turn away and rub his neck, trying to look as casual as possible as he finally responds to the lady. ]

Uh... sorry, I was just ...looking for an arcade. Around here. I'll just be back on my way.

[ He's rapidly shuffling away and letting the lady all but drag Prompto in for some shopping while she's already listing off some suggestions 'to compliment his eyes.' Yeah, good luck there... ]

[armigers]

...Swimming?

[ Ugh. Really? Not his ideal pastime especially in water that's been proven to be infested by jellyfish. It's like this guy has no idea how much it probably hurts to be stung. ]

Do you seriously want us to swim in there?

[ Just to clarify whether or not he's aware what a dumb idea this is. At least, fishing doesn't involve physically getting anywhere near the jellyfish even if he is right about probably getting a better look if he was under the water and right up and front of the action.

It's just that Noctis isn't keen on getting all wet at the moment. ]

I don't have any spare clothes with me.

[argenteums]

[ Excuse him for having an appreciation for the fairer sex, Mr. Godly! He's almost about to yell at Noctis to not abandon him before getting an idea, and turning back to the lady to give him a moment before he turns and bolts right at Noctis, tackling him from behind and hooking his arms around his waist to trap him, and loudly proclaiming- ]

But, baby, we're gonna have to decide sooner or later, or our anniversary's gonna go bad, right?!

[ Oh he hates himself, but like hell is he getting in there alone after what he just realized he was doing. ]

I'll get some nice pictures of you too. That way we'll know how good they'll look for the big night. You want it to be special, doncha?

[ The lady, totally endeared (and a little unsettled) by such an incredibly blatant display of affection between two men laughs nervously and asks if he's shy, to which Prompto nods vigorously and replies- ]

Yeah! Super shy! What a cute...y-pie, right?

[ He wants to die. Again. The lady, hiding a giggle, comes on over and gestures inside.

"Do follow me, then. I have just the thing to start you off."

And as she begins to move in, Prompto grabs Noctis down and hisses— ]

Do you really want that poor girl to lose her job because of us now?! Have a heart, Noct!

[armigers]

[ Baby?! He's caught in between seething in place and wanting the asphalt to swallow him whole as he stares at Prompto in embarrassment and disbelief before covering his face with his palm. Is he serious right now? How the hell is he going to get out of this now that she probably thinks they're a couple? ]

What's wrong with you?! Don't tell her something like that!

[ He hisses that low so only Prompto can hear before letting himself finally be dragged inside the shop and assaulted visually with all kinds of satin, lace, bows. The merchandise is never-ending, and Noctis can't quite contain his horror at the sight. Why is there even such a large men's section in a place like this? ]

S-so ...there's that, honey. A whole wall of ...lingerie.

[ He can't contain the giant visible cringe on his face at the term of endearment nor at his attempts to try and smile, quite certain he really is going to have to murder Prompto later for this, but first thing's first- they're here to investigate the disappearances. He might as well focus on that and not get so caught up in all the frills jumping at him, wondering just what it is about this lingerie that is affecting people.

It looks harmless enough from up close, if not devastatingly tacky. Do people really enjoy looking at this stuff, let alone wearing any of it?

He sighs in resignation before shoving Prompto forward- ]

Go and pick one out quickly so we can get out of here.

The made up one!

[small_reservations]

There's faint applause from above, which pauses briefly to accommodate a low, appreciative whistle.

"Wow, you really beat the snot out of him. You so low on offerings you need to rob random passerby or something? Not that I'm judging."

If she looks up, she'll see... a man with a shock of red hair, facial tattoos, and a wide grin, dressed in semi-distressed (but mostly just old) jeans and a t-shirt depicting what looks suspiciously like a Yordle, based on proportions alone. He's smiling down at her, and pauses for another whistle, this one a little more... provocative.

*cough* you saw nothing

[zenithguard]

Leona self-consciously helped the poor man back to his feet and apologized, ignoring the whistling and clapping.

Whoever this other guy was, Leona decided she didn't like him. She also decided that unfortunately talking to him was the best excuse to get out of an awkward situation. She stepped away from her victim, who was still too stunned to really focus on her, and faded into the background like gods tended to do.

Then she looked up at Axel. "Do you really have so few prayers that you have nothing to do but harass strangers?"

Ekko's goddess had said she was going out, he just shrugged and continued on with the machine he was fussing with. She's a strong woman, she probably didn't need him. Probably.

After she doesn't come home when he's used to, half an hour and seventeen seconds, he starts getting antsy. Leona said where she was going, right?

He'll poke around in the back alleys before he comes across her. And the scene she's definitely about to create.

"What happened?"

[zenithguard]

She blinked, her anger momentarily put on hold. There was Ekko.

"Nothing has happened. Not yet, at least. These two merely try my patience."

I do it too sometimes, no worries.

[small_reservations]

"Technically, harassing strangers might be a prayer. If that guy you decked was one of my followers, what then?" He probably wasn't, but still! The principle of the thing!

Once he's done being phony principled, he chuckles. "Those are some combat reflexes, lady. Where'd you learn how to do that?" He's seen people move like that, moved like that himself, but not recently and never often. It's not something just anyone can do. And to realize what you're doing and spare a normal person from harm at the last second... It's impressive. Seriously impressive.

[chronobreak]

He looks at the pair of them. Human vermin? That seems a little extreme. But at the same time, he's not exactly happy about people selling drugs and weapons. Not to his goddess.

"What'd they do? It's not like they could actually hurt you or anything."

He says it right there, to his faces. He sure doesn't care about these guys or their egos.

[zenithguard]

"If that was your follower, you have my condolences."

Know what else was impressive? Jumping up to wherever Axel was standing in a single bound, which was what Leona had just done. It was a sunny day out, and she was feeling pretty good. It made talking easier, and she didn't like people standing over her like that.

"I am of the Rakkor. We learn to hold a sword as soon as we learn to walk."

[zenithguard]

"They have been particularly obstinate about answering simple questions."

"Hey, listen lady-"

Before he could get any more, Leona broke his nose with a straight jab to the face. Just because she could and she was in a bad mood.

[small_reservations]

"Not one of mine, but he was probably someone's follower." He steps back when she jumps, and his eyebrows shoot up. That was indeed also impressive. He can't quite do that. Jump his height, sure, but to a fire escape? He'd rather not try.

"Rakkor? Never heard of 'em. We're probably from different worlds, different universes even." He seems to have accepted the existence of many universes with little fuss, but it's still a bit weird to run into people from them, even if he lives with one such person.

[zenithguard]

"The blow to his pride was worse than the blow to his body. He will recover."

Talk of hyperdimensional physics could wait until Leona was confident the guy actually WAS okay. She watched from her new viewpoint up above as he looked around in confusion. Something clearly had just happened to him, but he was having trouble remembering exactly what.

[chronobreak]

There's something particularly funny about a ruffian who thinks he's hot shit get decked by Leona. So Ekko can't quite hold in his laughter.

"Oh man, did he ever deserve that. Listen up, quit whatever you're doing unless you want to get beaten up."

[argenteums]

[ Tough luck, buddy. His fate was decided the moment he nearly abandoned him, and he's willing to take his annoyance over going in there alone now that he's finally realized how weird it must have been for him to be taking pictures the way he was. At least, it's not too unpleasant for himself, personally. He finds he kind of likes the aesthetic (Ooh, is that a leopard print...) before he cringes so visibly at Noctis' address of endearment towards him. Now, of course, he's totally honey material here, but that's his God there.

Gah! He sighs audibly and then blinks when he's shoved, glancing back at Noctis and stuttering. ]

W-wait, what? Me? I don't even know what...

[ A quick glance at the lady tells him she thinks she knows what he'd like, and he tugs an arm around Noctis' to tug him closer.

"I know just the thing! This is totally his colour!" the lady is saying, as she pulls out what Prompto does not know is a pretty bra two piece with a sheer trim, and if his imagination was of any help, he'd think that'd be fantastic to see on a girl, but now he can only imagine it on Noctis and oh there goes any joy he could have had in that one moment because Noct's frowning in it...

Then again... he stares at it and back at Noctis before beaming brightly. ]

Noct, she's right! It's black and stylish! We'll take it!!

[ See? He's a good shinki. He didn't even ask him to wear it! ]

[zenithguard]

Leona's first victim thrashed on the ground, clutching his bloody nose. The second had not been punched yet and looked like he wanted to stay that way. He tried bravado for all of two seconds before he actually looked into Leona's eyes.

Whatever he saw there, his blustering quickly changed to incoherent apologies. Leona nodded to herself. There were definitely some perks to being a goddess.

[chronobreak]

"So why don't you answer whatever questions she had, huh?" It's a little weird to be threatening and not be the one threatening to punch them. But Leona definitely doesn't need him for that.

[armigers]

W-what?!

[ His voice is practically a squawk at this point, unable to believe he just agreed with her like that. Without giving it further thought. Not that he really wants to devote too much time to shopping around, but why is she thinking of him in that, and well- okay, black is his color. He guesses.

And if he was going to lose his mind and wear lingerie, it's not like her pick is that bad. He's just not volunteering to actually put it on. ]

What about something for him?

[ He jerks a harsh thumb at Prompto because if he has to suffer, he's not suffering alone. What are friends for? ]

Can't leave him hanging here. He's into this kind of thing, too.

[ Hopefully, whenever they do return to their world, Prompto will happily forget this moment ever happened. He doesn't want to be reminded of it at all himself after this. ]

[priforprince]

[ --Of all the times not to have her sword.

Hibiki takes a step back when the giant jellyfish appears, hand going to an empty hip. This is absurd. She may be a god of sun and healing, yes, but none of that has anything to do with engaging in fisticuffs with overgrown invertebrates! She has no reason, absolutely no reason, to -

And then she hears it. The sound of somebody else on this beach. Somebody sobbing.

Looking behind her, Hibiki notices that a girl, probably middle-school-aged, has fallen and twisted her ankle on the beach. And since she's in such a state of fear and stress already, that ayakashi is perfectly visible to her. She's terrified. She's helpless.

She is, in other words, a damsel in distress.

Hibiki heaves in a sigh through gritted teeth and moves to block the creature's path to the girl. A god of performance has no reason to fight monsters.

A Prince does. ]

Don't obstruct me.

[ It's like "don't get in the way", but for snobs. ]

[zenithguard]

"I- Which one!? She's asked me like twenty!"

"Ah...right." That had been the problem in the first place: Leona being unreasonable.

[chronobreak]

Somehow he's not surprised, but he is amused.

"... Why don't we start from the beginning?"

[zenithguard]

"He's selling guns. I don't know guns very well, but I can hardly be a master of war if I can't use every kind of weapon. I thought I'd ask these two about them."

She eyed the two pathetic looking would be arms dealers.

"In hindsight, I may have gotten a little carried away."
