TEST DRIVE # 13

Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:

1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

To get you started, here are some ideas for thread-starters! Feel free to come up with your own ideas if these don't strike your fancy, though.

Illegal Irritations

Nothing supernatural about this one, there are just some guys sell illegal drugs and weaponry in some of the back alleys of Tokyo. They might solicit you to try and get your business or you might just happen upon them targeting someone else. Either way, are you really okay with letting this go on in your city?

Jumping Jellyfish

For some strange reason, a bunch of jellyfish have taken to literally jumping out of the ocean and all over the beaches. They seem to be scared of something in the water, but be that as it may, they're scaring away all the beach tourism! Quick, figure out how to get them back in the water!

Kooky Kickoff

A brand new store is opening up and, as part of their grand opening, they want people to perform for their potential customers! And they're just dragging people off of the streets and shoving them into ridiculous, off-brand character costumes to do it. Whether you're part of the show or watching others make fools of themselves, it promises to be a good time.

Lovely Lingerie

There's a great, new brand of lingerie being sold in Akihabara that is all the rage right now. They're stylish and sexy and come in all shapes, sizes, and colors! There's even some that are themed after popular shows. But people who are buying them keep winding up missing. Coincidence?

Manic Molting

So many birds are molting on the spot for no reason, shedding feathers all over the streets, on peoples' cars, and in any space they can get into. It's really not their fault, but darn if it's not making things difficult to do with all these feathers around! Either help clean up or figure out how to stop the mass molting!

Those spikes... Hm. ]

Hedgehogs don't do well with water, I know. Unfortunately, once the sun dips below the water line, the day will end as well.

[ The sun being himself. Obviously. ]

[ Yes, we.

Not that any expressions can be seen on the transformed Kamen Rider Kabuto's face, but his body language suggests a level of confusion at Hibiki's confusion.

Most people just follow him everywhere without question. ~~Because he's so cool.~~ ]

You are a sun god as well, no? And the god of healing. Who else would be more suitable for the job?

[ ...this is true. She is uniquely capable of handling all jobs, in fact.

But only when she feels like it. Besides, something more important is going on here!

Hibiki's frown deepens. ] Don't masked heroes have a duty to keep passersby from danger?

[ YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG

Nonsense. Chilled jellyfish is a delicacy.

[ Note to self: Get some from the fish market and force feed it to this guy at some later point. Calling something that delicious gross feels like a personal insult to this chef/transforming hero/sun god. ]

Jellyfish don't even have what we would call animal instincts. These are creatures that merely float around. I'm not sure they are running from anything.

[ Delicious, but very, very dumb. Instead of flight or fight instincts, they just have stingers and try to eat everything they catch, mostly. ]

Either something is controlling them, [ Hence him thinking about a parasite ] or they're just being flung out by some prankster.

[ Said masked hero mimes a sigh. His mouth is, in fact, not capable of opening and letting out breath. They just have speakers built into the helmet instead. Probably. ]

You aren't in any danger. In any case, passersby implies ordinary people. I don't count gods or shinki in that equation.

[ No, gods and shinki just get to shut up and fight instead. ]

I see. That's really unfortunate.

[He'd appreciate a helping hand during the confrontation—that group of men is by no means small.]

I think we may have a chance, but... [A pause. Something tells him that Lux may not like this idea.] How would you feel about being a decoy?

[At least he's trying to be polite about it...if that helps with anything...]

[Luna, on the other hand, seems utterly unfazed in the presence of such a horrifying creature. Standing straight and tall, she politely bows her head before addressing it in return.]

Greetings, and thank you for welcoming us to your waters. We are not humans, but have come to aid and protect them. We are representatives from the Far Shore, and wish to negotiate peace between the humans who live here and your... [she takes a quick glance around the beach] ...children.

Ugh! [ That’s it, he’s swearing off beaches from now on. Thankfully, whatever sting this squishy guy’s got can’t penetrate through all those layers of his uniform, because of course this is appropriate beach wear.

Too bad Prompto had flung it straight at his face. Jakob is staggering back from the impact, the jellyfish’s stings raising the first reddened lashings of welts over his face as he tears the creature off of his person and flings it back to the ocean.

Whereupon he turns a look of absolute murder at Prompto. ]

The ocean is none of my concern.

[ If it doesn't involve a stage, and if it's not pretty, she's not gonna do it. Hibiki brushes off her jacket some more, crosses her arms, and turns away. ] Honestly. Isn't that what division of labor is for?

[He pouts loudly back at her.]

Don't you mean where are they taking ME?

[He asks as they wrap around him and together push him into the store that she was standing outside of, where they promptly start running around.]

OOF!

[And that's the sound of a teenage body hitting the floor.]

[ If there is a world out there where jellyfish is a delicacy, Noctis doesn't want to live in it. ]

No thanks. I'll pass.

[ And spare himself the nausea and horror. Luckily, he has no idea what this guy is actually thinking, or he'd object profusely. Here he thought vegetables were the worst thing he'd ever have to subject his mouth to.

But he does have a point. Jellyfish aren't exactly smart enough to pick up on predators and run, but he feels like he still has to really go in there and fish just to be extra certain. ]

I doubt anyone would be dumb enough to throw around a creature that can sting them, so maybe it's the mind control thing.

[ He peers out towards the water again, trying to look for anything like a mindflayer that might be inflicting them with a confusion spell. It doesn't seem like there's really a single obvious cause so back to plan A and fishing.

His rod appears in his hand as he looks firmly determined to draw out whatever it is. ]

Duh, come on, Noct. It's what the news said— People who've been buying things from this store have been vanishing. So good ol' Prompto here is on the case, trying to find out what they've been buying!

[ At least Noctis is willing to listen, which is a good thing, all things considered. Not that he has to think about what he should do. He's devoted to him, and intends to continue on as such. That means, making sure he actually does the things a God is expected to do so that he gets all the people admiring him even more! This whole worship business is weird, but who's he to complain anyway.

He grins, giving Noctis a nudge as he holds his camera out. ]

Once we've figured out a connection, we'll know what to look for! And when we stop the disappearances, you get super worshiped! It's foolproof! Now let's see...

[ He holds the camera to him, screen facing towards them both as he pulls up the album. ]

That girl bought that green one... and that one was a similar type with the red polka dots. Ooh, this one has fuzzy stuff on it... it's green too, hm!

[ Give him a moment, he's actually too focused on trying to find a pattern than getting embarrassed over clothing right now. ]

[ Give him a break, Jakob, he was trying to get rid of it, not focus on mutilating your absolutely terrifying face!! Is what he would think if he wasn't looking terrified at the shadows appearing on his face and looking like a deer caught in headlights. ]

Uh, you... shouldn'a put your face there, buddy? Ol' pal? Maybe they're healthy?!

[ Oh gosh this guy looks like he's going to kill him. ]

[ The whole worship thing still makes him uncomfortable as he doesn't exactly see himself as a god god. Certainly not in the same vein as the Six back from their world and just figures it's a casual title for people who have certain abilities, and prayers are really just no better than all the favors and quests people send him on back home.

It's easier to cope with this whole mess if he puts it in those terms, not sure if he's anything close to being deified as he is. He could barely call himself a king at this point even though his destiny had been laid out for him since birth. It's not anything he's ever really fully embraced wholeheartedly, but if there are people disappearing because of this store, it isn't something he can bring himself to ignore either really, god or not.

He does want to know what's happening to them and if they're in trouble. ]

Uh... you don't have to sound so enthusiastic about it... considering what they're buying.

[ Not to mention they might hear him and try to mace him. Then he'll have two problems on his hands.

He peers over at the camera to study the pictures, brows wrinkling as he catches glimpses of what they bought exactly. Nothing particularly remarkable unless something has been happening when they actually put on the lingerie.

But. That would require testing it out, which is not an idea he wants to entertain. ]

I mean... one of us can go in to investigate...

[ And he's saying that in a way that makes it obvious that the one to do that should probably be Prompto because Noctis doesn't want to be caught anywhere inside, and well, a number of people passing by already think Prompto is weird. ]

So tell me how it goes in there.

[ He smacks his back good-naturedly, urging him onward to be a good shinki. ]

[ Remember him as he was, cruel world, for he was beautiful once and had a face that charmed the world!! Or so he would wish for it, if he could, but at this moment, any chances of that his face will not be destroyed are slim. He can only see darkness, it's coming for him and he wants to cry, for he never even got to fall in love or take the best picture and—

Oh, the light. He can see it.

Only when he finally has his vision clear, the sting of the jellyfish's latch onto his nose fading into his memory, or perhaps he's just becoming delirious, does he see the angels coming for him.

This one is particularly pretty and Prompto's eyes are wide as he blinks a few times and stares. ]

... you.

[ He murmurs, staring slack-jawed at the lovely girl he can now see. ]

Are you an angel? Wait, have I died?!

[ CAN he die again? He doesn't know, but if he's getting to see someone this cute, maybe it's not so bad. ]

What they're buy- oh.

[ And that, of course, is when it actually hits him, that they've been buying something really personal, and he's been taking pictures of them like a total pervert, gosh, how has he not realized this sooner?? If anyone saw him taking pictures in here, they'll probably have thought he's a complete and total creep!

However, the embarrassment now flushing through his body gives way to shock when Noctis suggests that he does what he does alone, and he's quick to shake his head. ]

Nu-uh, not cool, buddy!! You gotta get into this with me!! Aw, man... what if everyone thought I was creeping on them?! That'd be the worst! We've gotta make amends, man.

[ And with a fierce look of determination, grabbing Noctis by the shoulders— ]

We gotta buy some lingerie together so we can get to the bottom of this!!

[ Best. Plan. Ever. ]

The sun doesn't get to choose what it shines on. [ So sun gods don't get to choose what they have to care about. ]

Besides, you can't tell me you don't care about the ocean just after you were caught sunbathing.

[ People who really don't care don't botherr showing up! ]

That's your loss. [ More jellyfish for him.

Actually, Tendou is still planning on feeding the guy some next time, but now he's ensured that it'll be in secret. ]

There are ways to protect yourself from stinging, but whatever it is, do you intend to trawl the entire lagoon with one fishing rod?

[ That just sounds like a lot of unnecessary effort. ]

We gotta make amends? I wasn't the one taking pictures out here. I'm not going in there to buy anything.

[ His arms cross over his chest, feet remaining firmly planted where they are. Like hell is he following Prompto inside. It's bad enough one of them has to go, but two guys entering a lingerie shop together is a little bit suspect. Besides, Prompto's already established himself as a pervert by now. He's got nothing to lose. ]

Think of how it'd look anyway. I'm a god. I can't be seen doing that.

[ Yep, he's pulling out the god card here. Would his shinki really want him publicly humiliating himself in front of all these people? Besides, it was all Prompto's idea from the start, so he's still not budging. ]

Just go in fast and pick whatever. I'll stand guard outside.

[ Not that he even wants to be caught hovering near this place, but it's the only concession he can make so Prompto can feel better. ]

I got time to spare. Might as well be thorough and see what's down there.

[ If this sounds like he's looking for an excuse to fish for hours, that is because he is looking for an excuse to fish for hours. Also, he just doesn't know what else to do in this circumstance. He already kicked as many jellyfish back into the ocean as he could, and they just came right back out anyway. He doesn't have a whole lot of better options, and this other god isn't being particularly helpful. ]

Unless you have a better idea?

[ He gives him a pointed look over his shoulder, curious to know what he'd suggest. If it's more effective than fishing, he might give it a try, though... ]

If you want to see what's beneath the waves, then the only thing to do is go beneath the waves. Feeling your way around with a string and hook will only get you a lot of jellyfish.

[ Fishing can be fun, sure, but how fun is it when they're dealing with nothing but jellyfish everywhere? There's no need for a rod, even, they're jumping right out! ]

So how good are you at swimming?

[ Because who's going to go underwater? Certainly not him! Not yet, anyway. ]

I was not -

[ The ocean is growing restless again. As if something is getting ready to jump back out.

Hibiki makes a low grumbling noise in the back of her throat. ]

[ Hibiki can argue the point all she wants, but as long as she's staying here and not actually storming off, Tendou considers that a small win.

Besides, the people who'll fight him on things always were the most interesting.

But that's not the most important thing right now. The most important thing is that something is jumping out of the water. Well, flying out somehow, most sea creatures probably can't jump that high.

Especially not a really big jellyfish. A really, really big jellyfish. ]

That did not sound good...

[Lenneth hurries for the door, then promptly misjudges the width of her mascot head. It bounces off the door frame, and though she's too strong and grounded to lose her balance, the head rotates sharply with the pressure.]

Wonderful. [Give her a moment while she turns it back straight again.]

But that's why you gotta do it! If I do it, it's not gonna matter. But if your followers know you went through all that trouble to put yourself in danger for them, they're gonna... I dunno, follow you more.

[ He can be stubborn about this just as much. Besides, as long as he's with his God, at least he can add some validity to why he was taking pictures of people's lingerie. Either way, just have your arm grabbed, Noct. ]

Besides, if it's the both of us, it looks a lot more valid! This totally isn't for dirty reasons, so you don't even have to hold back!
