TEST DRIVE # 08

Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:

1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

To get you started, here are some ideas for thread-starters! Feel free to come up with your own ideas if these don't strike your fancy, though.

Junky Jokes

There is a small spirit girl who is determined to hear some funny jokes before she passes on to the next life. Your job is to come up with some horribly bad, wonderfully funny jokes to make her laugh. Be warned, though, she's got a very serious face that's hard to crack.

Knights Knives

The swords of the knights at a local museum's exhibit have gone missing. They are praying for them to be returned because these swords are worth so much and such a great part of history. Hopefully you'll be able to find them, because otherwise those prayers are going to someone else.

Ludicrous Lightning

There's been a streak of heat lightning going on. It's so intense that sometimes the lightning will light up the night sky as if it were day and there have been numerous power outages in the area. Go help out the people who are without power and make sure that everyone can still live as normally as possible!

More Money

Who doesn't need more money? A little convenience store needs help since all of their employees have fallen ill at the same time. They're offering double wages to anyone who will work for them. Unfortunately, the store is a hot spot for misfortune and ghouls of various kinds. Have fun!

Neon Nourishment

Surprise! A very American man is shoving neon bright candy and cakes at everyone who will stop for even a moment, and he easily notices all Far Shore residents as well. Which means every time you pass him, you'll be getting more and more of this hideously colored food. Enjoy~

"You strike me as more of a man of the line, one of the troops, one who does what most people do. I was a specialist."

She pauses for a second, pasts are a delicate thing and hers is no exception, that and there are a litany of rules she still is in the midst of remembering.

"Every soldier plays an important role in war though, so just remember any army needs everything to be victorious. Now let's get into that bank and find these robbers."

[Almost definitely a lead, then. Shun leans down to check the next armour suit's hand, making sure the manner of the theft looks similar too, then gives a short nod before looking back to Senri.]

Can you smell it anywhere else here? It doesn't matter how small it is, anything could be useful.

[They need to know how this was done and who did it, and if there's a floral scent caught on these things, there's a fair chance the thief left it elsewhere.

Checking both hands one last time, Shun catches sight of something caught between the knuckle hinges of one of them - it's a loose thread, and the slightest bump to the hands makes it slip out into his palm. Clearly not something that could've snagged there with the gloves in normal sword-holding position, and Shun holds it up for a moment.]

Someone in long sleeves, then. [Though one more thing about the thread seems to bother him, and he glances over to one of the museum employees in uniform before holding the thread out to Senri. Though it would have been overridden by the perfume before, there's a particular smell Shun's considering might be here.]

Does this smell too clean? [The scent he's looking for is starch, but he's not sure how to describe it beyond that.]

[Not very much: the only reason he knows is because he wanted to try and use the weird computer things, hoping it would lead him to tools for investigation. But instead, he found felines and strange dancing. And one of them decided to fall and set themselves on fire.]

Mayhap it is due to the difference in realms but I find it hard to use it on a basis like the people here.

At least he's not a fairy as far as I could tell.

Hm...True.

[PATCHY. Alice looks slightly annoyed but it's a brief passing on her face. Going to cut even deeper, having to actually saw at it a little bit to break through. She pulls thew knife back to slightly poke at the jellyish filling , trying to figure out what it was meant to be.]

It's...difficult when you are used to having many hands to help but..it's nothing compared to dealing with the loss of memory. That has been the more difficult thing to overcome. Although it was nice not to remember some things that have happened.

[Sorry, Alice. Your only friend from home is an asshole.]

I suppose you're not doing very bad for yourself, but I haven't tried to ask you to do a lot of things at once, either.

I suppose memory loss is difficult. Is it worth losing the good things just to not have to remember the bad ones? Of course, it's not like you had a choice in the matter, but assuming you did, or even nearly so... I do wonder.

I'll think on that more, later.

[She's back to having a look at what, exactly, that filling is. It actually looks like something like food, aside from the horrendous color.]

[He sniffs the air curiously, but shakes his head. Besides the armor, he hasn't noticed the scent anywhere else in the room. But there are a lot of distracting ambient smells. He might need to get closer to the source to notice it.

Noticing Shun pull the thread from the armor, he watches intently. There is a surprised blink when the thread is passed to him. And a confused tilt of his head at the curious question. Too clean?

He sniffs it carefully several times. It does smell odd. And it's not a scent he's familiar with. But... there is something a bit.... sterile about it. So after careful consideration, he nods. Yes. It does smell a little too clean.]

[But isn't that half of home though?]

True, but even then I would find a way to do it all without the help. Maybe someday I can find a way to regain what is missing.

That...Yes. In some ways it is worth it but at the same time, losing what made me who I am was strange and worrying. Forgetting what happened before I came to Gensokyo was nice to a point but..

[A pause as she shakes her head.]

It took a while to figure out what was going on and why. When I awoke- there was nothing and now..I know I'm missing some things as well.

[But for now, resisting the urge to do what Marisa would, squirt the jelly at Patchouli and going to bring out some of the jelly onto the plate to observe the color.]

...This is no fruit I ever seen before.

[T...rue...]

I guess we'll just have to see. [Honestly, couldn't Patchy probably figure out a way to confer at least one doll upon Alice with her god power since I apped her as being able to write down things and manifest them? I told you Patchouli is an asshole.

Anyway, she nods but moves back over to examine the... substance...]

Do you suppose there are some flavors of human-world sweets and the like that cannot even be approximated by natural ingredients and must entirely be synthetic? I know that the flavor of banana sweets is based on an extinct strain of bananas, but that's not exactly the kind of instance that I'm thinking of. Something lacking any natural ingredients except maybe for sugar? This looks like nothing I've ever seen before.

[Although for now- it's a good idea. Not with the ideas running through heads currently. Doll mounted attack bunnies.]

Perhaps. I don't know of anything more from the outside world, although the shopkeeper did have some candies that were from there at one point. I'm not sure what 'Cotton Candy' is but I doubt it is fit for consumption for anyone over the intellect of two.

[Of course..there is one test but...Alice isn't sure she even wants to attempt. Mocking nor the idea of a sugar overload. Going to grab a fork and another knife to cut more off and try and get a better look on the inside.]

[That sounds awesome, though.]

Hm. Cotton candy is mostly sugar, I believe. So that might be as close to "completely synthetic" as human food can get. Inasmuch as that could be called food.

[She's going to give it another brief examination, then set it back down while she waits for Alice to get the fork.]

[It does but for now, one step at a time.

Returning with the knife and fork, trying to pull the piece apart a little bit.]

Sounds...odd and like it would cause a overdose if not watched. It is safe to say that this is not going to explode by this point.

[Although...curious on how it was made now. Both the currently being examined items and Cotton Candy. Moving the glass to the side and thinking on this for now.]

I can't see of anything else that can be done without more items that are not available or someone trying it.

[Indeed. This is definitely not an ordinary piece of food by any means.]

I'm certainly not going to, and I don't expect you would, so I guess we're just going to have to leave this for now.

Disappointing. I was really hoping to get to some sort of a result. Oh well. I guess we'll just have to hope that that person didn't run into too many people, since I doubt most of them would stop to question the horrendous colors, but on the other hand, he did have enough that I don't think that's likely.

[Wasn't here and now a time and place? But fine, if that's the way he's going to be.]

[Her own little world is just a bit more important than the big picture at the moment.]

I just told you, didn't I? You're in a really bad position to be fighting me here.

[He hasn't even touched on the two big ones, and he doesn't plan to either. If she insists on fighting, she can see for herself what a disadvantage she's at now in simple terms of fighting power. Nagi, of course, is best kept out of this as much as possible. At best, it seems cruel to use him against her when he has no memory of their caring for each other. At worst, Tot could make a fatal error and tell him something dangerous that would transform him into an ayakashi.]

[She huffs at that. What did he think she was, some little kid?]

For now! If you're just going to rub Tot's nose in it, you can just go away.

[Balking.]

[He seriously cannot believe this girl.]

[Shun gives a short nod, like that's about what he was expecting, and turns the thread between his fingers.]

I think it's from one of the uniforms here. Either someone working here did it, or someone who had access to a uniform.

[In any case, Shun drapes the thread back over one of the gauntlets before tossing his head in the direction of the rest of the exhibit.]

Come on. If you smell something else, we might get a better idea of how this is being done.

That's beside the point!

[He's the one arguing with her.]

[Senri tilts his head the other way, as if that might help him understand how Shun came to that conclusion. But he doesn't question whether the theory is correct. He just accepts that as fact. Either way, it's good that he managed to find someone to help him. Senri isn't sure he could have figured this out on his own.

He nods and follows Shun toward the rest of the exhibit. So they're looking for the same scent. Possibly on one of the people with uniforms? So the best thing to do is.... sniff everyone. Right?

Well, that's what he's doing. To the first employee he finds. Senri has no idea how lucky he is that people have a hard time seeing the residents of the far shore. But this kind of behavior is bound to get noticed eventually.]
