TEST DRIVE # 08



Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:

1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

To get you started, here are some ideas for thread-starters! Feel free to come up with your own ideas if these don't strike your fancy, though.



Junky Jokes

There is a small spirit girl who is determined to hear some funny jokes before she passes on to the next life. Your job is to come up with some horribly bad, wonderfully funny jokes to make her laugh. Be warned, though, she's got a very serious face that's hard to crack.

Knights Knives

The swords of the knights at a local museum's exhibit have gone missing. They are praying for them to be returned because these swords are worth so much and such a great part of history. Hopefully you'll be able to find them, because otherwise those prayers are going to someone else.

Ludicrous Lightning

There's been a streak of heat lightning going on. It's so intense that sometimes the lightning will light up the night sky as if it were day and there have been numerous power outages in the area. Go help out the people who are without power and make sure that everyone can still live as normally as possible!

More Money

Who doesn't need more money? A little convenience store needs help since all of their employees have fallen ill at the same time. They're offering double wages to anyone who will work for them. Unfortunately, the store is a hot spot for misfortune and ghouls of various kinds. Have fun!

Neon Nourishment

Surprise! A very American man is shoving neon bright candy and cakes at everyone who will stop for even a moment, and he easily notices all Far Shore residents as well. Which means every time you pass him, you'll be getting more and more of this hideously colored food. Enjoy~

Oh yeah, stuff from museums are pretty valuable. [Vella assumed they'd steal it to look cool, but that makes sense too.]

What kind of company do you think I hang out with?

[Her tone is dry, but there's a hint of a teasing glimmer in her eye.]

I don't think any of the indoor businesses would. They seem to stick to the rules. We're better off checking out the places with rejects, degenerates... Or maybe some rich asshole with a private mansion.

[Definitely more awesome. Vella's of the strong opinion that people can wear and say whatever they want as long as they're cool to people.]

People that know how to find bad guys. [Which could be good or bad.]

We should threaten the rich guy, just in case. [Fuck up people in power, do it do it.]

I didn't have anymore! [Really, they should be lucky they got that many out of him.] 'Sides, looks like it worked!

[Having finally laughed, even if it was more at them than anything else, the little girl begins to fade away, finally letting go and passing on. Yusuke watches with a half smirk-half smile before turning to Urashima.]

Thanks, kid. Couldn't have done it without your help. [Hope Urashima has some dodging skills, or else he is getting his hair ruffled.]

[He blinks in curious surprise, but nods and pulls his hand back. This guy obviously knows what he's doing, so Senri just follows his lead, kneeling down to inspect the hand carefully.

After a moment, he leans closer. Still being careful not to touch it since he was told not to, Senri sniffs. There are a lot of musty and strange smells in the museum, but this close to the hand he gets a faint trace of something else. Something fresher.]

....flowers?

[What he's actually smelling is the faintest trace of perfume. What that means though, is really beyond his deductive skills.]

[But she's going to wait for Alice to go somewhere.]

I guess I wouldn't know either way. You've got yourself a mouth, that's for sure, but at least you use it pretty well. If you were a little less smart, I might think about how to cram your tongue down into your stomach so the acid burned it off.

[...encouraging! There's something vaguely warm about her tone, really. Really. She really likes scrappy, spunky Vella.]

What the hell, why not? Chances are he's done at least three wrong things in the past twelve hours even if he's not our thief.

More of that technobabble. She isn’t going to make this easy, is she? Jakob smiles politely through it all, before replying with, “Er, lead the way, milady.”

And maybe it’s because he really has no memory of it, but she’s so remarkably calculating and efficient that it almost reminds him of one of those automatons his “rival” shinki has built.

Straightening up, he turns to yank the chair away from the door so they can head out. “I presume that you would have me dispatch the thieves and recover the swords, is that correct?”

"Actually, if you could just incapacitate them, I'd like to return them with the blades. It has come to my realization that most of the time simply dispatching a foe does not really equate to the kind of punishment that I've seen most humans preferring."

With that she gets up and starts out of the museum, heading for the bank to get into the ATM cameras given their spacing in the city. They are at least more reliable than traffic cameras, if only this were London, she'd have this triangulated in 15 minutes.

"I really wish I had the foresight to build a surveillance network here instead of bashing one together on the fly."

[She grunts noncommittally, but they're definitely in agreement there.] Maybe you'll get a chance to learn it today. If we're lucky.

Huh? ( What do you mean it worked? Urashima is taken aback! ) It worked? ( Well, she isn't there anymore so that means, ) --It worked!

( He can't believe because he was starting to think she would never laugh. And spoilers: Urashima is the slowest turtle sword to ever sword in his class so his dodging skills aren't exactly great. Spoilers again: He loves praise in all forms so he doesn't mind having his hair ruffled. His hair is actually very ruffle-able, tbh. )

How do we plan on doing this? I don't exactly have much that can help.

This is a good start, though. [Now she doesn't have to manifest tools or anything.]

Step one: if it's some kind of plastic, it's probably not brittle enough to crack under light pressure of the blunt side of the knife, or melty enough that some of it would stick to it.
