TEST DRIVE # 08



Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:

1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

To get you started, here are some ideas for thread-starters! Feel free to come up with your own ideas if these don't strike your fancy, though.



Junky Jokes

There is a small spirit girl who is determined to hear some funny jokes before she passes on to the next life. Your job is to come up with some horribly bad, wonderfully funny jokes to make her laugh. Be warned, though, she's got a very serious face that's hard to crack.

Knights Knives

The swords of the knights at a local museum's exhibit have gone missing. They are praying for them to be returned because these swords are worth so much and such a great part of history. Hopefully you'll be able to find them, because otherwise those prayers are going to someone else.

Ludicrous Lightning

There's been a streak of heat lightning going on. It's so intense that sometimes the lightning will light up the night sky as if it were day and there have been numerous power outages in the area. Go help out the people who are without power and make sure that everyone can still live as normally as possible!

More Money

Who doesn't need more money? A little convenience store needs help since all of their employees have fallen ill at the same time. They're offering double wages to anyone who will work for them. Unfortunately, the store is a hot spot for misfortune and ghouls of various kinds. Have fun!

Neon Nourishment

Surprise! A very American man is shoving neon bright candy and cakes at everyone who will stop for even a moment, and he easily notices all Far Shore residents as well. Which means every time you pass him, you'll be getting more and more of this hideously colored food. Enjoy~

[She chuckles and moves her hands to her hips. If anything it was an ayakashi. Maybe a spell.]

I can use dispel on it and see if that works. If not then I'll zap and stun whatever's holding it back.

It doesn't look like legendary sword, I don't think it has judging capabilities.

[ Genos tries one more time, this time with both his hands. The strain is so serious his internal fans start to whir louder. That's the point he gives up, with a huff and takes step back and gestures at the sword ]

Your turn. [ If that doesn't work he can just smash the rock itself, or something ]

Supposedly.

[ ... ]

Mm, fine. But I'd better not have to patch anyone up.

[ Being a god of healing is hard work, and too much trouble, if you ask him. Every time someone gets hurt or sick (which happens quite a bit), it's always the gods of healing they turn to. But unfortunately for Dwyer, he's also kind of a decent person and can't say no or turn a blind eye when someone's in trouble either. ]

[And aren't you a god?! Isn't that your job?!]

You'd be surprised at how plain legendary things can look.

[Does she look like a holy grail that serves as a vessel for a dead goddess? Nope. Just like a regular woman.

Light flexes her hand and grabs the handle. Let's try a dispel first. Things don't feel much different... Lightning gives it an experimental tug. She manages to pull the sword out further than he did at least.]

If it's a ayakashi then it's a pretty tricky one.

[ He shrugs. ]

Accidents happen, especially when fire's involved, and I don't want to do any more work than I have to. That's all.

[ When he has a job, he'll perform his duties to the best of his ability...and then try to clock out as soon as possible so he can get a good nap in. ]

I'm already overworked, if you ask me.

[ But he counts most work as being overworked, so...take his complaint with a grain of salt. ]

...okay, no, because I see you napping more than the god of sleep, dude.

[The child has lost respect but Mai is positively beaming over here.]

That's right!

[Now Mai turns to the child and she's... not much happier than when they starter. Actually she's giving Mai a very judgmental look. The brunette huffs.]

What, so you didn't like either of those?

[The spirit vehemently shakes her head. Mai sighs.]

Well. I'm not sure what to do then. I've kind of run out of jokes honestly.

[ fuck how did he know??? ]

I thought those napping spots were perfect...

[ Ahem. ]

That is [ completely true ] not entirely true. I'm simply very dedicated to learning the art of maximum shut-eye.

[ By sleeping much more than the recommended amount for a normal person. ]

Besides, isn't it better that a well-rested god take on prayers instead of a sleep-deprived one?

Also Dwyer snored once and he found him.

Anyway, Daichi just gives the other guy a look]

There's a difference between well-rested and narcoleptic, dude. Maybe get that checked out.

Either that or someone connected to them.

[She looks down, a quirked smile on her lips. She hadn't known what to make of the shinki when the pair first ended up together. Talking animals weren't precisely common at home and being called a 'god' was aggravating enough. Now though...]

You're pretty smart.

[Mai pauses there, first looking the man over and then looking off into the distance. She's weighing her choices perhaps. She's quick to make a decision though and gestures for him to follow her as she moves on ahead.]

Sure, I don't mind. Come on.

[Both Mirage and the little spirit seem to have to really give that one a moment of thought. And then Mirage suddenly snorts before quickly covering over her mouth with one hand.

The spirit just looks perplexed. After a moment Mirage sideyes the spirit and gives it a quirked grin.]

Well you have to admit, that was pretty bad.

[The spirit seems to think on that a moment and then she too makes a 'pff' sound before she starts laughing.]

[ If it's ayakashi they will need a pair of god and shinki to get rid of it. ] In that case, are you god or a shinki?

[ He crouches next to the stone as if he was trying to assess it. He even pokes it few times. ]

Alternatively how much do you care about that sword being in one piece?

[So awkward! Sheryl's cheeks actually start to puff up a bit until she notices both Mirage and the spirit snort, then finally... some laughter. There may or may not be some sheepishness coming through until Sheryl finally relents.]

Okay, so it's a lame joke, I suppose. But at least you're laughing, so that's good!

[It's not like Sheryl to stay embarrassed for long as she, too, laughs along with the spirit.]

[Kurama manfully catches himself before the pouting starts, reminding himself that, at least for the time being, this friendship is entirely one-sided.]

Some children think that sort of thing is funny, so I thought I'd try to help out. Obviously it didn't work [the girl is watching them in turn but still refuses to show any sign of amusement] but I'm going to stick around anyway in case I get any other ideas.

She wants to reach out and grab Miu by the shoulders, shake her and shout 'why can't this be like it was back home!?' But that's dangerous, reminding her of their shared past is too much.

She wonders if the Heavens are having a laugh at her.]

...Miu. When this is done... [Yuri trails off, because she's not sure where exactly to go with this. When the prayer is done...?] Do you want to do something? We're not in the human world a lot. And we can go anywhere. [Something fun together, something Miu wants to do. Because Yuri does care about her, and definitely more than a tool.]

While his companion is talking, he selects another piece of candy, an electric yellow one this time around, and tentatively takes a bite. Mango, apparently, and thankfully less sour.]

It is? What else do you know about this world? And do you want some of these?

[He holds out a handful of the bright candies.]

[ Then again, he did assume that she would know her shinki. If she has only just arrived though, she probably hasn't had much time to be anything more than strangers with them. Even now, Nagi thinks that Omi keeps him at arms-length. Maybe all gods are this way with their shinki. ]

( Opens mouth, closes mouth, he really wants to laugh because he gets that's the punchline because it's gone completely over his head. What in the world is are sleevies? But now he's been put on the spot and he really can't think of anything at all.

He gives a distressed glance from the girl to Zeno and look... it really hurts his heart to think that this poor girl might not be able to go on if she can't laugh one more time. He really wants her to move on? He cares a lot!!! )
