Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:
1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!
Terrible Twos
There is an oddly large number of toddlers running around the streets without adults around to keep them in check. This is probably because they've all gotten scared to the point of abandoning all reason by the sights and sounds of the horrifying tentacled ayakashi that is preying specifically on young children. Help keep the children in line, or just go kill the ayakashi. Your choice.
After being untouched for a hundred years, most inanimate objects will form a malevolent spirit. That's the case with kasa-obake, umbrella yokai. And it's not uncommon to see kasa-obake around either. They're out in droves with the rainy weather, blowing open in people's faces, falling over in front of them to trip them up, anything to startle or harm the Near Shore residents. Your job is to entertain and quell the raucous spirits. Or get rid of them.
An interesting video is making the rounds on the Near Shore. Anyone who watches it is so engrossed in the textures, lighting, and story that they wind up seeing the real world as nothing but black and white after their viewing. Everything seems dull and unreal to them afterward, and any attempts to watch the video a second time end in failure. It's likely that there's something causing these people to lose their luster of life - an ayakashi, perhaps?
Surprise! A number of snakes in local areas have suddenly sprouted legs - two legs, to be exact, that allow them to stand up straight like a person - and are running around excitedly on their newfound limbs. They are rather unused to not slithering, though, so they keep running into things and causing chaos wherever they go - possibly because a lot of people are terrified of snakes running around like it's normal. Please wrangle the snakes up so scientists can figure out how this happened.
Another scientifically strange anomaly has occurred on the island nation of Japan. A new breed of coconuts has suddenly sprouted up out of nowhere. There are dozens upon dozens of trees littering the beaches and dumping coconuts all over the sand. Not only is it strange for this time of year, but the coconuts are a sickly green in color and pear-shaped. See if you can figure out the secrets of the coconuts - or maybe just figure out if the coconuts are delicious.

Yun | Akatsuki no Yona | Shinki
[Yun's voice may actually be louder than the children's as he's running around physically grabbing kids wherever he can. He doesn't appear to have any weapons on him at all, shinki or no. Just a backpack - it looked useful and it was his first purchase in this world - filled with some supplies. He's yelling at the kids, the ayakashi, even passers by, trying to order the adults to take kids and run away, but some of them are still outright ignoring him and that only makes him more frustrated.]
HEY! I DON'T CARE IF YOU CAN'T SEE ME! That's not excuse not to listen when I'm talking to you! HERE--
[He shoves a kid into a person's arms and finally they look up into his face -- or down, as it were.]
Now run! AND DON'T YOU DROP THAT KID OR I WILL FIND YOU! I swear to--
[And he's running right back into the fray, going nowhere close to the ayakashi. That's the job of someone more talented in combat than he is.]
Walking Wigglers
[Okay these guys are more his speed. He buys a large blanket and lays it out with a rope trap and meat set inside it. Then he waits for a snake to step into it and eat the food, quickly pulling on the rope to catch one.]
HAH! Gotcha!
[He pulls the bag tight and double-knots it.]
No way are you little monsters getting away from a beautiful genius like me.
[Now he's ready to keep doing that as many times as necessary. He's nothing if not methodical.]
Wildcard!
[Yun has lots of practical skills that he could be using or teaching to your character -- namely herbal medicine and cooking. He also loves learning and would appreciate any sort of book he can get his hands on. Despite coming from a rural area of a fantasy-historical psuedo-Korean country, he's very literate and can memorize books he's read only once.]

While she is trying to come up with something, another shinki catches her eye. She watches him from a distance at first, curious but seeing how he goes about it, she can't help but speak out.]
You can't be seriously proud of that....That's going to take all day!

[He crosses his arms over his chest.]

[He closed both eyes when he did that, so he pops one open.]

Kid! [He'd wave if he had a free hand, but this he does not.] Got snacks for the little ones?

[Stare. SO MUCH STARING.
Then he gestures back to the ayakashi.]
You don't think there's something more important to deal with right now?
[This has a vague air of familiarity that he's doing his best not to focus on right now.]

[One of the children grasps the dragon crest, and Zeno cranes his neck back away from the ayakashi.]
Zeno doesn't necessarily think they're more important, no. More pressing, maybe, but kid, you must know that only a god and a shinki working together can defeat them.
Meanwhile, the little ones! You have something for their tummies right now, yeah? Come with us!

[Just because he can't give Zeno the satisfaction of being 'right.']
I don't have anything for their 'tummies' right now. If you get out of the way, I will.
[As if Zeno's standing in his way. Yun brushes past him, away from the ayakashi and cinching the strap of his satchel that contains his basic cooking supplies.]

[Zeno laughs. There isn't much that throws him off balance after such a long life, but...]

[Is he a shinki or not? If he is, that's a gentle reprimand; if he isn't, well, Zeno will be the one getting a reprimand, gentle or otherwise.]
Terrible Twos
This is a bit awkward, as Omi had come over to help fight off the ayakashi and he can't do that if he's also protecting a child.]
Wait a minute...! I--
[Hm. It is true that the kids need to be gotten away from the ayakashi, and it's true that's something he can do quickly. Where to take them though? Hospital? Day care center?
Day care center worked. He teleports with the young child to one he remembers seeing the last time he was at The Near Shore and right back, now minus a toddler.]

Show off. Come over here and do that a couple more times.
[He points down at a spot on the concrete near himself.]
Then and only then can you stand around and gawk at how handsome I am.

[He's not sure which part of that response is most surprising: the idea that he was showing off in doing the most practical thing to help, the idea that this boy, well... doesn't seem to have any reservations in boasting about his appearance, or the idea that those around him should be expected to be similarly smitten with it.
It isn't that the boy is wrong; he is good looking. It's just... unusual behavior.

Actually, I was thinking it might be a good idea to fight back the ayakashi.

I just don't see your shinki anywhere, so that makes you available to get these children away from the ayakashi for the people who can fight against it right now.
[So he picks up another child and starts jogging away, expecting that to be all he needs to say.]

This time he teleports in closer to the ayakashi and issues a series of attacks with the water. He may not be able to destroy it without Nagi around, but if he can drive it away from the area so that it isn't harming people anymore, that will suffice.
It's a dangerous task with the risk of blight, but Omi is fortunate enough to have plenty of experience dodging. He presses forward in his attack, and as the ayakashi faces one splash after another, it finally retreats.
Crisis averted for the time being, Omi returns the water to his flask and catches up with the boy trying to help the children again.]
Still need any help..? [He asks in a sobered voice. The threat is gone, but there's an awful lot of crying from the small children nearby.]

[A God could do that on their own? Then... what the heck did they need shinki for? He's torn between being offended and impressed.]
Well, if you're not going to chase after it, I suppose so.
[He shakes his head out of it and goes to pick up another child. Thankfully there's only 4 of them, so with 2 people they should be nearly done. Maybe just moving them near the others at this point will get them away from the general area where they were getting so upset.]
