Yes, as a matter of fact, some humans do use beads in jewelry as a ward against evil magic. Most examples of it are hogwash, in my experience. Not unlike snake oil, really. Like a few beads and charms would be enough to keep a demon at bay. But there are some cases where they can be quite potent...

Perhaps that's why the prayer we heard was so strong?
