July 5th:
Julian Bashir and Jennifer did not vanish several days ago, as was commonly believed. They wereeaten by a grue murdered.
Their bodies appeared overnight in a park not far from Amaterasu's scorched temple. This park is popular in the daytime, and there are signs that dozens of people have criss-crossed the area where the bodies now lie. They were clearly moved -- not only have they both been dead for several days and would have been discovered if they'd been in this heavily trafficked area for long, but there is no sign in the soil beneath them that they've been in this location for longer than a few hours.
Both Julian and Jennifer are shirtless. Julian is lying face up, and Jennifer is lying face down. Their throats have both been cut with a medium-length serrated blade (like a standard steak knife). On Julian's chest and Jennifer's back have been carved the words DEATH TO AMATERASU, written in careful, back-slanting hiragana with the same blade.
No witnesses saw them being left in the park. The bodies were discovered early in the morning by an NPC shinki -- the area has been cordoned off, the bodies covered, and several shinki are currently scouring the grounds for signs of the culprit. They don't require assistance, and would prefer all onlookers (regardless of detective experience) to keep well back from the crime scene, thank you.

Omi and Ouka were also targeted by Jay during Tanabata, but they weren't killed until the 10th. Their bodies were laid out in a more distant park, with no damage other than a single stab wound at the base of each of their skulls.

JULY 17th (05/24/2017):
Late night July 17th/early morning July 18th, Johan Anderson's (rainbowmaster) body was found, not far from the path that leads to his temple. His head, however, was not found with his body.
Further investigation will discover his head, blindfolded with a strip torn from Johan's shirt, in the crook of a tree about a hundred meters away from his body. His head has been removed through a combination of sawing with a very sharp, thin-bladed knife, and twisting brute force.
CLUES:
As this is a less trafficked area than the parks where previous victims have been found, it will be possible for an excellent tracker to spot clues in the parched dirt of the path and the tall dry grass on the sides of the road. They might determine that the murderer was wearing a shoe approximately 27cm in length, and that, based on the height of the head in the tree, the murderer needs to be at least 170cm tall. It would take a great deal of strength to remove a head in this manner. From the postmortem bruising on Johan's face, the murderer had relatively large hands with the standard five fingers (so, no robots or tentacle monsters this time). There is a great deal of blood in the grass, and a blood trail leading from Johan's body to his head, but no blood trail after that point. The footprints in the grass vanish at this point as well.

JULY 18th:
About thirty minutes after Johan died, Venus (loveheart) was murdered as well. She was approached by an unknown assailant shortly after dawn, on her way to Hibiki's temple with a shopping bag full of tea supplies. She saw her attacker and was able to scream briefly, but her attacker moved fast and stabbed her repeatedly and ferociously in the chest, cutting off her scream. She suffered defensive wounds during this attack. The final blow was to the base of her skull, at which point she collapsed to the ground.
Her attacker fled in the direction of the nearest body of water (lake, river, whatever happens to be in range). There is a faint but distinct blood spatter trail leading to the edge of the water, but then the attacker entered the water and the trail was lost.

Those who follow the local (Tokyo) news might have come across this article.
Tragedy struck last night, at [prefecture name] community pool, where a young man was found murdered. Please exercise caution in reading further, as the details of this case are quite gruesome.
Cause of death is believed to be blunt force trauma, trauma which was severe enough to render facial recognition impossible. The victim was further mutilated with a crowbar, his lungs removed in the style known as a "blood eagle" before the body was placed in the water. Personal belongings nearby indicate that the victim may have been one Ryugazaki Rei, a person with no known family or address.
Anyone with information on Ryugazaki Rei or with knowledge about this crime should contact the [local] prefecture police department at [contact info].

Shortly before noon, anyone in the vicinity of Chronos' temple might hear an explosion. Explosions aren't uncommon in and around Chronos's temple, but if anyone were to investigate this particular explosion, they would find bits and pieces of Ekko in the nearby trees, blasted into bite-sized chunks. His temple has vanished.
At first, this will appear to be an accident. Only a thorough investigation of the remains and the surrounding area may turn up evidence of plastic explosive.

JULY 29th
Dana Scully is dead.
Anyone in the vicinity of the library at 3:32pm on July 29th may have heard the report of a .38 handgun being fired. Scully fell approximately 100 meters behind the library. Cause of death was a knife to the back (through the left lung and nicking the pulmonary artery), which she survived long enough to turn and fire a shot from her gun. The gun is still next to her hand, and gunpowder residue shows that she was the one who fired it. The knife in question was a thin-bladed dagger, sharp on both sides and approximately 8” long with a leather-wrapped grip. From the angle the knife is embedded in her back, it can be assumed that the knife was thrown from a short distance away.
There is a lot of blood. Scully’s wound bled out onto the pavement beneath her, and her attacker was also wounded. There is a trail of blood from approximately two meters away from where Scully’s body is lying, leading away from the crime scene to the nearest temple. The blood trail ends at the temple shrine.
NOTE: Certain of Scully’s close CR might know where she was living. If you want to arrange an investigation of her last known address, please contact me privately (either vianotjoe or as a private message to rev13_3 here on Dreamwidth) and I’ll let you know what clues might be uncovered there.
NOTE #2: If more than one group of investigators is closing in on Jay at the end, I'll use a random number generator to pick the 'winner'. Please note that even though Jay is injured, he will be extremely violent and dangerous when confronted, and that the longer it takes the investigation team to find him, the more booby traps and other protections he'll have gathered to himself. If no investigators are able to find or summon him, then he may escape to kill again. You'll have to be clever if you want to catch him!

While I like the idea of Lavi being able to find Jay after following the blood trail, would Jay actually be in the Near Shore or is he still lurking in the Far Shore?

2. If Lavi goes through the shrine, he'll find a blood trail on the other side, in the Near Shore. The shrine in the Near Shore is a little one on a quiet street, but just a block over is the start of a busy downtown. Without a dog to follow the scent it'll be really easy to lose the trail after just a few blocks.

Not only is Chikusa going to get some proper supplies to investigate the murders, but his partner Ken will be getting involved. AND SINCE YOU MENTIONED DOGS....
(Ken has the ability to exchange the teeth in his mouth, and each teeth allows him to "channel" different animals- physically changing his body and senses. IIRC, two of those channels in particular, wolf and boar, are specifically noted for their keen senses of smell.)
I planned on making a log for the police breaking and entering today, but backdated slightly after Rei's murder since so many people had an interest (including Lavi! although I will have to double check if he would invite Chikusa and Ken). If using Ken leads them to Jay, would you want to just put that all together in one big log or make the reveal its own thing?

EDIT: I'm modifying this slightly. Right now the blood trail requires extra-sensory abilities to follow (whether that's a good sense of smell, amazing sight, magical spiritual tracking powers, etc), as the number of people walking around have destroyed any obvious bloodstains that a normal human could spot.
The trail leads from the shrine to the little bodega about three blocks down and across the street. The sign in the window has been flipped to CLOSED and the door is locked. The shop owner is dead behind the counter (he never saw the attack coming). Somebody has gone through the store, bleeding the whole way, and collected rubbing alcohol, women's stockings, sanitary napkins, and knocked over the displays of sunglasses, chips, and pocket-sized sewing kits. The empty bottle of alcohol and the packaging for the pads and tights can be found against the far wall, along with a great deal of blood, mostly smeared against the wall and floor. Two large Gatorate bottles are also found, smeared with blood, in the refrigerator aisle.
Following the trail out the back door will lead to the nearest bus stop, which is a bus that eventually goes to the train station.
