TEST DRIVE # 09



Whether you're trying to figure out how your character would fare in this setting, trying to get some samples together, or just dipping your toes in the water, you've come to the right place! The Test Drive is here to make your life easy by letting you see what the game is like without actually joining it first. So here is how it works:

1: Post a starter with your character, including whether they are a god or shinki in the subject line.
2: Act like your character is established enough in the setting to allow your thread to go places.
3: Take on any god/shinki of your choosing, as long as they're not already in the game!
4: Comment around to the other people on the meme.
5: Have lots of fun!

To get you started, here are some ideas for thread-starters! Feel free to come up with your own ideas if these don't strike your fancy, though.



Old Officials

There's a business that is desperately wishing the older members of their workforce would bow out. They've been sitting on death's door for so long and are doing little to help the company. The younger managers only want to step up and take their place! Help convince these ancient businessmen to step down.

Peanut Party

A celebration for peanuts is sweeping through the city. Peanut butter, peanut cookies, even just plain peanuts are being sold, thrown, and praised all over. It's your job to help spread the peanut love, either by helping to make the tasty treats or by buying more peanuts from the next town over.

Quiet Quail

Oddly enough, a request has come in from a quail, of all creatures. It thinks very highly of itself and knows that it's super mega important, but it has such a hard time being anything but quiet. Your job, should you choose to accept it, is to draw attention to this quail - make it stand out like not other quail has done before.

Roaring Riders

A rowdy motorcycle gang has been plaguing the streets for a few weeks. Every night, at midnight, they make their engines roar out in unison, waking everybody in town. The riders themselves are good guys, they just have this one nasty habit that they refuse to give up because it pays tribute to their patron god. Do you have the heart to get them to quiet down?

Slick Sevens

The newest tourist stop is a large casino. It's said that everyone who enters the casino has their luck stolen from them at the door. That might just be silly superstitions and bad gamblers talking, but there is definitely an ayakashi there who seems to feed on people's luck. Maybe that's what's causing everyone to lose so much.

Homura's awkward around people at the best of times, and the fastest way she sees to get this over with?]

[Ah, this is much easier for her. A fight is much, much easier than having to talk to people. She looks over at her god, well? If an ayakashi is stealing luck there's not much longer until it starts stealing people to go along with it. Stopping them is supposed to be a god's job, and this is something she's good for.]

[ Oh god. The poor person looks absolutely terrified. Nisha's got a gun pointed right at his face, and she looks like she's absolutely not bullshitting around. Holy crap. She doesn't have money with her (because, like, she's super rich but she doesn't feel like spending any cash on peanuts), because why would she pay for peanuts when she can threaten someone? Two birds with one stone. Or something. Alternately, you can find her with a box full of peanut butter cookies. She doesn't look terribly amused by this shit, but. Oh well. ]

This? This is really goddamn stupid.

[ Oh, there's Nisha again with her gun out. It's kind of a thing for her, if anyone hasn't noticed. A bird? Seriously? She has more important stuff to do, and making sure a quail can get his rocks off is not one of those important things.

... Someone should stop her before she shoots the bird. ]

If you're dead, you'll draw lots of attention, right? So get ready, bird brain.

[ SOMEONE PLEASE STOP HER. ]

[ This must be... the most ridiculous thing to do ever, especially after being promoted to the rank of "god". Did Raiden promoted peanut butter secretly? Like... how? Once a year he was obliged to sell snacks to random people of Earthrealm?

Of course not, but the mental image is hilarious enough for Cassie to go with this stupid request.

She pats the shoulder of the first person nearby, to get their attention. So she can hand them a simple bag of peanuts with a bright smile ]

Go nuts! Your promotional peanut allergies incoming! Abdominal pain, diarrhea and cardiac arrest, take your pick.

A bird prayer. You must be shitting me.

[ Cassie sits on the bench and looks very skeptically at the tiny quail perched on her hand. ]

[ Theatrically she leans close to "listen" what quail is "saying". Or maybe it is saying something. Then she proceeds to yell at... well, you! ]

[ No, Cassie won't have a heart to stop them. In fact, she's jealous she's not the one having the tribute paid in such form. ]

We've all got complaints about you, guys, serious complaints... S[ he says sternly, special forces training on the roll. Oh she can play a cop if she has to. But she drops it immediately. ] But I'll let that slide, if you give me a ride

Hmm. They are rather old, despite their persistence. We should still try to make it look like an accident, though, otherwise suspicion could fall on our clients...

How hard to you think it would be to give an old man a heart attack?

[Her expression doesn't change even as Hajime starts talking. If her god doesn't want to do it the easy way, then she'll obey.]

The most direct action is generally the best.

[She might not remember what lead her to this worldview, but it's hers and she's keeping it.]

[Hijikata stares for a moment. You know, he has definitely personally carried out at least one political assassination, but that was just... That was cold-blooded.]

[On the bright side, he guesses neither of his shinki are too prone to stinging him with feelings of guilt?]

[She reaches back to grab the young shinki's hand, smile not fading in the slightest]

We could lead him to an akayashi. They might commit suicide.

[There's no emotion in her voice as she considers this option.]

They're already the age for it. Maybe a letter about an illegitimate child.

Quiet Quail

[Honestly, her main reason for taking this prayer on was the source. A bird? She didn't know they believed in gods, much less the power of prayer. It's curious enough that she decides to check it out and maybe lend a hand. For now though, the Sanzo priest is just crouched next to the bird with a cigarette in her hand, observing it peck at the ground shyly.]

You won't get far like that. [...] Though, then again, you've got my attention, so who knows?

[If you're going to a casino, you shouldn't complain about bad luck. The risk of losing is part of the allure, after all. But, an ayakashi eating people's luck probably counts as "cheating" and it's only a matter of time until it moves on to more substantial meals. She should probably do something about it.

Sharak is stood just to the side of the casino entrance, watching humans enter. A small ayakashi darts down from the ceiling and circles a man's shoulders before escaping with it's meal again and Sharak's eyes narrow.]

... Well, at least it's given them an excuse to complain.

[She lets it happen, but her expression doesn't change.]

[...He's already regretting leaving his shrine and go for a walk today. What made him think that was a good idea, again? People are such a nuisance sometimes.]

[She stares back, looking detached from the entire situation. It's not like she's attached to these people, they're expendable.]

It would be quick.

[They wouldn't have to talk to anyone. Somehow... she feels like reasoning doesn't work.]

[ shiemi isn’t entirely sure how she got into this situation … some complaints from the residents, most likely. and being the type of person (or, well, god) turning down a seemingly easy task didn’t look all too hard at the moment. she just wanted to help, honestly.

it would’ve been easier however of the motorcyclists were, well, bad guys. shiemi feels a tremendous amount of guilt for telling them to stop doing what they believed to be right, but she had a job to do and she wasn’t going to stop trying at least.

but she does feel somewhat perturbed from her mission with almost a dozen men circled around her, engines on in full blast and they can barely hear her as she lists off the numerous complaints against them. not to mention is was late at night; shiemi had her work cut out for her.

… mind helping her quieting down this roaring bunch? ]

this must be why there’s a rumor of unluckiness about this place? as soon as she entered she couldn’t find any place to start, and she’s pretty sure someone was following her. paranoia begun to set in for the half pint goddess, tears were working at the corners of her eyes out of frustration. help? ]

[She gives Homura's hand a gentle squeeze.]

I bet the older guys are just worried and probably don't feel good about being told to leave cause they're old. Especially by people that just want their spot, you know?

[With her free hand, she lifts it up and makes a spinning motion with her index finger.] So we just need to go around be direct, right?

I'm well aware.

[His voice couldn't be any more dry if it were on a waterless planet. Like he's never killed someone before, honestly...]

The easiest way isn't always the one with the best results, though. Cause too much collateral damage, and it's more trouble than if you hadn't stepped in to help in the first place.

What are you, an amateur? If an ayakashi does it then we'll just end up with two ayakashi to deal with. Why should we make more work for ourselves when we can make him pass on "peacefully"? [Close enough to peacefully.]

It shouldn't be too hard to setup an accident. Ah, even if it doesn't kill him the trauma might be enough to convince him to retire anyway. It'll be no problem at all.

I've arrived recently. [Obviously she's new at this. And that's the most response he'll get out of her.

They won't listen if I talk to them. I'm too young to be taken seriously.

[Aya has been tasked with helping give away little bags of peanut butter cookies tied up cute with little pink ribbons (she made them herself). Who can resist the peanut love in cookie form?

With a sweet smile, Aya walks up to you and tugs on your sleeve. Have a sweet young eleven year old shinki holding a bag of cookies out to you.]

Cookies for your thoughts?

[Aya might not be very good at this. She looks nervous, like she might just die right on the spot all over again. How is she going to get these riders to settle down before they cause some major issues?]

Umm… Please… Please stop!

[Maybe if her god (is that you??) steps in to help her that would make things go a little better. Either giving her confidence to speak up or just by calling her vessel name and scaring them off.

Because she indeed changes into a chainsaw.

Which is great for scaring people. Right?

[He looks at her in silence for another moment, but he can't really argue. He knows how hard it is to be taken seriously by the sort of older man who's used to thinking of himself as more important than young people, and he's sure it's even worse for a girl than it was for him when he was a brat.]

Good thing I'm old, too, then, isn't it?

[...Thirty-five isn't that old, but he's commanded people long enough that he's pretty used to demanding their attention whether they want to give it to him or not.]

[Aren't they also very young to be talking elderly managers into retirement? Homura's sure she's a teenager, and Hajime might be an older one. But that's what they both are.

She also remains completely unconcerned about the businessmen's feelings. They just need to get the prayer over with. What happens after isn't their concern- but it's probably a concern to Hajime- which makes it a concern to Homura.

She pauses to consider Hajime for a moment.]

I don't think they'll listen to two strangers.

[ Cassie nods and stares very pointedly at the quail. Give the answer little birdy, come on. Several seconds in silence passes before she returns her attention to Hijikata. ]
